Aside from your marvelous "rediscovering radios", Mort, you have a very lovely wife and she certainly has done a wonderful job of making your sunrise outing a real treat!
It came to mind that even in the South of England, your Spring sunrises are quite early. But at 51°N and 3°W, that is to be expected.
To quote one of the Wallace & Gromit episodes, "A Fine Day Out"!

Watched it in one breath, thank you for such a detailed description of your journey with the radio station! QRP is an amazing area of our hobby that requires more scrupulosity. I'm just getting there, but haven't made any solid results yet. All the best, Archie EX0QKT from Kyrgyzstan, 73!

    nice landscape.
and thats it why qrp works. the other station has the big beam :P

    • @Q26Video

A common misconception, Lars - most of the contacts I make are with other stations with low power equipment and simple antennas - usually a wire in the garden or a dipole. I have worked stations all over Europe with less than 1/2 watt and many of them have been similar, usually 5w or less. It's a very exciting and satisfying way to enjoy the radio hobby and the idea that it can only be done if one side has a super duper antenna does not stand up to the facts...give it a try - put the huge rig and beam in a cupboard and have fun with QRP! 73 😃

Some good results there. A nice location too.
I bought one of those masts too, not been out yet and now summer is over, pouring rain today. I got my 817 because of QRM from broadband at home S8 noise 160 to 20m, 60m okay.

Hopefully there will be some ideal autumn weather soon Bill - and I'm sure you'll have some great results too with your 817 and portable antenna. Glad you liked the video, 73 from Mort/G4BSK

Nice setup, that’s more than I take out. I use a 9v bioenno on my radios that don’t use more than 12v. Does the QMX limit to 12? I have one of those in the queue. I’ll make a video on my various setups. I wish my XYL would put food together for me lol. 72 de AI5DD
