Etoro looks more complicated than it is, it’s a good way of being self taught in the stock market, understanding the terminology. The more you know, the more you want to know, and that can only be a good thing.
MamaFurFur -that's brilliant video but just one question: how do you handle UK taxman with any gains? Transactions in $s, I assume for any holdings that pay dividends that also will be expressed in USD. I'd love to speculate on crypto or some ETFs (especially those precious metal mining related) but how would you handle tax owned to HMRC? Do you calculate yourself or do you (personally) use an accountant to do this for you?

Great info thank you! I have used all my stocks and shares isa quota for the year. Like yourself I allocate my s&s isa to vanguard. When investing outside of the ISA using the likes of etoro am I correct in saying you can take profits up to £12,300 per year tax free, irrespective of your personal income from being either employed or self employed? So for example the best way to take profits every year would be to make sure you don't sell more than £12,300 worth of profit per year outside of your isa? Thanks so much.

Thank you for your help. Your explanation is so easy to understand. I just want to know if there is a risk involve in copying a trader in terms of leverages? If the trader I'm copying used a leverage say 50x, would that be copied as well to my portfolio?
I don't know but there was a risk number allocated to each investor in the video.

Thankyou, very useful video, it looks nice but note etoro doesnt allow you to input data for existing trades you have made prior on other apps and platforms in order to monitor in addition to new trades made on etoto so it really is only for those who are starting trading for the first time. Also only allows a single portfolio so found it very limited compared to a lot of stuff out there. Looks nice but functionality very limited but good video thankyou.

I'm building a portfolio through etoro and wondered what sort of money should you put into each stock? I'm using it for a more long term investment so obviously want to try and achieve a half decent return if all goes well.
i'm new to this, can you just invest a sum like £1000/$ into one share like silver or bitcoin ect and leave it their for about 6 months and then sell and take the profit "or loss" then or have you got to buy and sell every day / week as the share goes up and down and just see what happens to your money

As a UK investor it is often hard to get appropriate information on us tax implications for UK residents. I know you have done a video previously on the correct form to fill, but still no wiser as to when and how I need to pay tax. How does it work on etoro, or is there no tax as it's CFD only?

Having recently started using etoro I was a bit surprised at the charge they make to convert GBP to USD.
I was aware that there was a spread price when buying and selling stock and also knew about the $5 withdrawal fee but actually thought the conversion fee was embedded in the rate you received.
I went back and checked the conversion fees. It says
"from 50 pips"
with the explanation.
"Pip stands for percentage in point.
One pip is the smallest price change
that a given exchange rate can make,
and therefore refers to the very last
digit of a price. A pip is used to
measure the change in price of
one currency in relation to another"
In reality what this means is that for every £1000 you deposit etoro charges you £30 which apparently equates to 50 pips.

It's like near 20$ EVERYTIME when buying US stocks example. Is the withdraw fee the only one that etoro takes money from you or are there any other fees when buying stocks normally?

If I decide to “take profit” as am in the green, am I right in saying that I am taking the profit from the original contract and that the original investment and contract rate remains ticking on..? Or, does taking profit mean I have to close the original trade??

Hi MamaFurFur! newbie here. What does it mean when you're buying underlying asset? What does x1 x2 and x5 mean in simple terms?
x2 means multiply your investment by 2, x5 means multiplying by 5, etc.
is the 1X a CFD or the actual share? when we select a stock like apple or tesla and go for 1X it's says ''you're buying the underlying asset'' which means the equity not the CFD, am I right? thanks

Although I'm still struggling to understand the "Buy" & "Sell" aspect. I've been using the virtual account to practice and have followed some experienced traders to learn.
I'll appreciate if you can shed more light on the buy and sell aspect. I saw that many traders (mostly inexperience) are making that mistake. i.e. yesterday someone experienced to see gains after $ADA increased but was told he opened a sell position instead of buy, so the value dropped.

I have a trade on Etoro, crypto called Cardano (ADA) on a leverage x1, will that trade be safe in the long term, as I've already made some good gains. Can Etoro sell my trade at anytime? there are more than 7000 stocks trading in London stock exchange, but in my etoro account only 302 are showing. what use of etoro if i can't access 96% of the market ???!!!

Yes for me this means the stock purchase happens right away at market open, rather than wait to hit a price point then buy it for you.

I want to update the stop loss and take profit.
But when I did this and clicked the update button those changes were not applied!
