Great to see you casting. I’m on the Euro setup journey myself and this has really encouraged me. I watch the American stuff ( I love a bit of Old Dominion Trout Bum) and I can see you doing similar casts. A Tuck cast as they call it. I have just bought some Sunset Amnesia to try the flat level micro leader setup as you mention. Keep the info coming, great stuff. Cheers, Jon
Thanks again Jon, yeah Cory has shown me the way, he’s really quite inspiring, much of what I try to do is from watching him. There are many other top euro nymph anglers out there but I think he’s one of the best at explaining what and why he does it. Hopefully much more to come on the channel as we push through the seasons. Let me know how you progress👍
Looks like you have mastered it. I’m so pleased to see some one in the Uk talking about actually casting the Euro setup rather than lobbing and fishing at distance. The Americans seem so hot on this and you are the first person I have seen actually talking about it in the uk. Tight lines.
Thanks Gordon much appreciated, it can be productive but it’s like any form of fishing good days and bad. Well not bad days just something to learn from and move on. I prefer to be a bit more productive and this method certainly does that.
Loved the video, mate. just came across your channel and subscribed im new to Euro nymphing i just bought everything i need to start my brother is setting my reel up tonight i fished that part of the nith maybe about a month ago only got a small trout but it was a bit high and fast that day ill definitely give it another go in the next few weeks the hares ear seems a good all rounder for grayling and trout all the best buddy ive off to watch the rest of your videos
Cheers buddy much appreciated. it’s an addictive method when you get into it, just stick at it. You can never go wrong with a few hares ears or pheasant tails, just have a range of sizes and bead weights and your go to go.
Hi Gavin, it all depends on what species and how wild you want it. Loch Etive can be good for mixed species and some big spur dogs. Isle of Skye for big pollock and spur dogs
Really enjoyed watching this video great bit of sport you had well done!!! P. S after a few mishaps I have started using a wading stick and now wear a manually operated life jacket 😂
Another great video Douglas. Great to see you catching the grayling on a different methods. Is there any type of fishing you don’t do😂 it would be good to see you target trout later in the year. Keep up the great work.
Thanks buddy. I am going to do more euro nymphing and fly fishing through the year for trout, stay tuned for that. I enjoy most types of fishing mate but I don’t fish for salmon in fresh water, I think they’re in dire need of protection and should be left alone to do their thing.
Hi Douglas, just found your channel and am loving it and subscribed. I’ve recently moved to Balloch by Loch Lomond and am hoping to start mackerel fishing (which I haven’t done since I was a boy) this year. When do they become big enough to eat, and could you recommend some good spots for fishing them from the shore? I’m guessing Gare Loch is a good option and not too far from Balloch? All best, Jake
Thanks for watching and subscribing much appreciated buddy. The mackerel are bigger in size usually near the end of summer but you can still get big mackerel at the start of summer just not as many. Just stick at it and you will pick a few big ones out. Anywhere from Ardmore point all the way round to loch long can be good when the mackerel show up. Rhu is a hot spot but it can get busy with limited space especially when the tide comes in. On the opposite side off the base at Garelochead can also be good and busy at the big lay-by. As you may have seen from my mackerel videos you can catch them almost anywhere if they are there with the right method.
That's a bit more like it. Like you, the short reach of the method was what has been putting me off. I like the idea of a set up that allows a longer cast. Might need to give this method some more time. Some nice fish there too.
@@PiscatorUK-Fishing was your leader just 20ft of mono, rather than a French/Tapered leader? And how much does the nymphing fly line come into the cast?
@@alexallanangling it’s more of a Spanish type leader no taper just level line 20ft. The euro fly line is just really used for managing the line with your non rod hand. The fly line never comes out of the tip of the rod, which seems like a waste but managing thin mono leader with wet and cold hands is a nightmare. Barbless flies Uk do a good line with braided core, it’s the cheapest around and it’s full length. You could cut it in half and split it between two reels, you get me? I cut the welded loop off and whip in a tiny loop and tie the mono leader to that, it goes through the guides easier.
Great tutorial explaining your approach and methods. Certainly caught the Grayling and even better on your own hand tied flies. Hey, mind what you're doing getting swept downstream. One wounded soldier is quite enough.
Doug I’m planning on a euro nymphing rod for the winter - how much difference was there between the vision nymphmaniac and the maxcatch rod you reviewed? I quite fancy the vision one but if the maxcatch one is as good then I’d go for it instead?
@@hungandhooked Hi mate, as I said in the review, I got the Maxcatch 10ft 2wt predominantly for small to medium size rivers and it does cast lighter nymphs better than the vision Nymphmaniac 3wt. The vision rod is a superior rod in its build which you would expect from the price tag, but truthfully I’m disappointed with it. You could buy a bunch of maxcatch nymph rods to cover all bases for the price of one Nymphmaniac.
Another great vide🎉o mate. Ye mate when waiding you need to be careful exsp new beats when the water is dark. Its not worh it lol dont want to see you video floating down the river you attach to it not funny be safe have fun thats my story
Douglas, Really appreciate the shout out! Very kind of you!
Keep up the awesome work and continue success to you. Tight lines!
You’re very welcome Cory you helped me massively with my euro Nymphing just wanted to spread the word. Tight lines to you buddy

Looks like a very effective method which gave you a productive day. Very informative video, thanks for sharing.

Great video! OldDominionTroutBum is my go to for euro nymph info. Spread the word! Keep up the videos..
Thanks buddy, there are many top class euro nymph anglers but I don’t think anyone explains things as well as ODTB, he’s just inspiring to watch.
Very enjoyable video Douglas 👍
Many thanks for watching Joseph much appreciated mate👍
Great video as always Doug!
Cheers buddy, tight lines🎣💪🏻
Some great tips in here, thanks for sharing 👌
Cheers mate👍
Great video as per Douglas love Grayling fishing though a hot flask of coffee is essential ☕️ 🎣 brilliant
Thanks Barry, i couldn’t agree more, hot coffee is the order of a cold winters day. 👍

Great video Dougie and explanation of the technique involved. Sadly a species we don't have here in Ireland
Thanks Richard much appreciated buddy👍
Great video mate its inspired me to have a crack at this on my local Derbyshire Derwent
Thanks for the awesome feedback, tight lines buddy👍🎣
Hi Douglas great content mate. Looking to do some sea loch fishing and wild camping Where would you recommend. Cheers

@@PiscatorUK-Fishing great thanks mate would be targeting sea trout. Find it hard to find somewhere to camp.

Thanks for watching and commenting Alan. I think I’ll be getting a wading staff, probably just one of the folding ones.
