Just got finished my first week at my new job and I think they are really impressed with my Excel skills! Could not function in this new job without your videos, thanks so much for putting out so many useful tutorials to help novices like myself. You are one of the great sages of the internet.
Brilliant Mike! I literally just taught something similar to this for the filter function with AND logical tests! I learned from you, and I tell it to everyone who will listen!
Crtl-Enter keeps younin the same cell instead of moving you down one row by default. Crtl-Shift-Enter is used tor old school array formulas....But we don't talk about these much anymore.
Yes. The OR function is a scalar function. OR can only deliver a single answer. The include argument in the FILTER function needs an array of trues and false is that is the same size as the table. It is filtering. So OR Will never work because it can always only give a single answer.
Make your own data sets with Excel Formulas. I have a bunch of videos: ruclips.net/video/V4JciRG3ZqY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/MUIzMMTAHUE/видео.html Or go onto some of my other classes. Maybe the Advanced or Data Analysis classes. My home page lists some of my many classes: www.youtube.com/@excelisfun
Hi Mike Many thanks for this. But why did you do + at ruclips.net/video/mT0Er97zWHM/видео.html ? This is a spilled array formula, so a simple will suffice?
Crtl-Enter keeps you in the same cell instead of moving you down a row by default. Crtl-Shift-Enter is used for old school Array formulas, but we don't talk about these very much anymore.
The benefit of Ctrl + Enter is when you are entering something and you immediately want to do something to the cell like format or copy. Since if you hit Enter your cursor would go down and they you would have to click back up to accomplish the "something". In this exact formula I was not going to immediately to something to the cell so I did not need Ctrl + Enter. It is my habit so often because I anticipate that something will be wrong with formula and I will need to edit the formula in that cell. But in this case it adds no benefit.
That's always been a frustration. Your "trick" with the OR function is a great alternative!!

That is really true!!!!
Thanks Mike, As I learned from you many years ago another possible option is Advanced filter.
It is fun that we have been hanging out for so long!!!! Advanced Filter is a great idea.

A Thursday night upload!
No night is a bad night to have fun with Excel, right? : )
Is there a reason to not use =OR() in the =FILTER() function, instead of the addition logic?
Yes. The OR function is a scalar function. OR can only deliver a single answer. The include argument in the FILTER function needs an array of trues and false is that is the same size as the table. It is filtering. So OR Will never work because it can always only give a single answer.
Function filter is magic...
It is. We are so glad that Microsoft finally gave it to us : )
Hey mike recently going through your beginners excel playlist everything is awesome but i want more data to practice.. What should I do

@excelisfun
Ah, I see! I have that "cursor moves down one cell on hitting Enter" default turned off in my Excel setup, as it annoys me!
Thanks Mike!!
You are welcome, Formula Guy John!!!!
