Kent talks about what a Soil Climate Specialist does, what the job entails, and what skills are helpful to bring to the job. Soil Climate Specialists work on the Soil Climate Analysis Network, also known as SCAN, that supports natural resource assessments and conservation activities through its comprehensive, nationwide soil moisture and climate information network. The SCAN system focuses on agricultural areas of the United States and is composed of over 200 stations. A typical SCAN site monitors and provides near real-time data about soil moisture content at several depths, air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, wind speed and direction, liquid precipitation, and barometric pressure.
