- Welcome to the Bees Sicilian Adventures! We're Beth and Brian, two American expats that retired a little early and bought an abandoned farm on the outskirts of Noto, Sicily. Come along on our adventures as we fix up our property, discover Sicilian cuisine and explore this spectacularly beautiful island. Amuninni!
This week we visit Castelluccio, discover ancient pottery artifacts in our backyard and change our name to The Bees Sicilian Adventures!

Mundane stuff !!!
Trimming olive trees, building a pizza oven, mushroom picking and... gathering pieces of ancient pottery ! Just your everyday average stuff !!! 😂😉😊❤
🤣🤣 Yeah, you’re right. Here only a year and starting to take it for granted already. Pretty nice situation we stumbled into.
You should wear a mask when cutting the blocks and ear protection to save your hearing , enjoy your vlogs 🌻🇦🇺
Congrats on your new name. It will be great for you and us.
It is what is happening now. Congrats on your new grape vine plantings,
Brian ,please wear a dustmask when cutting the limestone. Love youboth.
Dan
Love the lighthouse!
Your new name fits well. The blue sky looks beautiful. Love the video as always. Thank you, and have a great week 😊❤
Thanks. You, too 😊
I like the idea of using your artifacts for your new pizza oven
Would subscribe to see more archeology. Thanks for this video.
Glad you like the archaeology. If you knew how much work went into making these silly little videos, how much they cost to produce and how little we get paid to make them? You probably wouldn’t try and leverage your subscription for more of our time “in the field.” 🤣😉 Thanks for watching.
Go yous guys!!! 👏 😂😂
I do enjoy your travels but also the houe and property updates. There's never a dull moment!!
Love to you guys ♥️♥️♥️
🤣🤣 Thanks. And thanks for watching.
Hey a long distance CIAO from usa. Enjoy your videos, what a pleasure to see that sicilian sky & that mild weather in the winter, I am a little jealous, What a pleasant suprise to knew that one of your past videos, you had the oppurtunity to visit
Il Zingaro reserve @ Castellamare Del Golfo. I was born there made me very nostalgic. Un bel paese da visitare, remember
la vita e bella and futtitinni....Joseph
It’s an incredibly beautiful place ❤️ And yes- FUTTITINNI!!
As you will surely know, the bees were the symbol of the family of Pope Barberini, I don't know if you are distant relatives, however when you happen in Rome go to visit Palazzo Barberini is worth it, always in Rome, in the Testaccio district there is the most Great landfill of ancient Rome, called Monte dei Cocci,
A real mountain of fragments (cocci) of ancient amphorae, if you are thrilling you in search of ancient finds then buy a metal detector and maybe look for some precious jewelry
The favourite Sicilian buzzing bees. ❤ I love your content.🎉
Thanks. And thanks for all of the nice comments 😊
This was fun, relaxing, enjoyable. Just what we come here for. Thank you! ❤
And drama free? 🤣🤣 Welcome. Thanks for watching.
I watched your short videos. My favourite was the old watermill in France. Very melancholic, very touching.
Thanks. I love that one, too. A short walk from where we did our grocery shopping!
@@beeseurotravel - The music chosen was genius! 👍
Castelluccio and nearby is so unbeliveble place so har to describe: one must be go there to realized that such vibes and somewhat feeling the history alive. Besides, you know Sicily is plenty of place where you can rejoin to past people. Here beside Acitrezza, there a little village named "Capo Mulini". During roman ruling that place was an ancien roman port and in front of that on the bottom you can still find many pieces ( little or bigger) of amphores.
Right? Next time you go you need to come by and say ‘hi.’ We will check it out. Thank you! Hope you’re all well.
Hello guys. It's always a pleasure to see your videos. We're all fine thank you.
If you'll come on Catania let's know it me, I'd be happy to hangout you again to spend some time together
Love the new name ❤
Thanks 😊
Thanks for another fun video. I can’t wait to get the deets on your place in France….oh the intrigue 😁
LOL. Just waiting for the mayor to send the paperwork to the notaries to finish the contract. Nothing happens fast in this part of the world…
You need to pick up Richard Hemery’s booklet on identification of pottery.
I checked him out and he’s good. Certainly knows Roman pottery. I’m not sure if he’s done much with Sicily, though? This is a crazy place with all of the different cultures invading and it being the center of Mediterranean trade for so many years…
Buona domenica Mia amici!!! 😊
Buona domenica 😊
I just wanted to tell you guys how much we enjoy your videos! We are traveling to Calabria in June! I can’t wait to explore Southern Italy!
Thanks. Southern Italy is where it’s at 😊 Hope you have a great time and thanks for watching!
Thanks guys! Nice! ❤
Loved the DAD jokes, that guy is hilarious and should probably be on a confuser screen somewhere! Great video guys and I like the new name. Keep up the good work and please, more Dad jokes!
Please! Don’t encourage him! 😆 Thanks for watching 😊
Hi guys, since you both like artifacts so much if you ever make it to the west side of the island you should see the small island of Mozia (if you haven’t already). Loads of artifacts some average some very ornate. Hopeful the statue of the Motya Charioteer will be there and not on tour in some museum.
Great. Thanks! We really need to get that way. It’s the only part of the island we haven’t really explored…
Siete così carini!
Bravi!
🤣🤣 Grazie.
I look forward to your videos every weekend! I had no problems finding you as I’m subscribed! I hope to meet you all one day. My husband and I plan on retiring to Sicily within the next 5 years. Trying to plan financially now so no surprises come along. Thank you for all you do.
Great! Thanks for watching - glad you like the videos 😊
How fun finding those pottery fragments. I wonder if you had a metal detector, what you might find? Roman coins?
Keep your videos coming. Rhode Island is watching!
🤣 This area has been hammered by treasure seekers. Massimo said in the 90’s our farm and the surrounding area was blanketed by people “from Catania” with massive metal detectors and excavators. I can only imagine. The worst part? Anything we find belongs to the Italian government. They could care less about pottery shards but if we found something cool?
In rome, in the rione TESTACCIO, there is a little hill, MONTE DEI COCCI, 36 mt high made of some estimated 53 millions of broken pottery.
So you have your own MONTE DEI COCCI!!!!!!!!
😍 But I wish it wasn’t spread over 2 hectares!!
Thanks for the great video...
Glad you liked it! 😊
Great video. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Fantastic images with the drone! You know, speaking of archeology, my mother told me that in the region of central Italy from which she came, the farmers found ancient tombs and strange vases when they dug to put the vineyard.
Yeah… they found a bunch of things here not that long ago. Tombs, buried churches, all kinds of stuff. Can only imagine where it all wound up 😳
@beeseurotravel Yes, of you search for The Guerriero di Capestrano, you can see a statue of the 6th century BC found by a farmer in 1934. In this case the farmer handed over the warrior's pieces to the Authority
Hi from a displaced New Englander living in Utah. I just wanted to drop a quick line and say thank you for your content. You have been instrumental (and few other channels) on my wife and I exploring Italy (Sardegna and Sicilia) for our retirement. In April I will be traveling to Italy to check out the islands first hand and see if it will be the right fit for us. I especially like your run down of the visa process. Please keep up the excellent work! Thanks again.
You’re welcome. Glad you like the videos 😊
You guys are so cool! I love your attitude and content :)
Aww. You’re nice. Thanks 😊
Great name!
Hi Bee's!
Hi! I was watching while you go mushroom picking and I thought! If he had a good metal detector he would surely find a lot of stuff there! surely a lot of coins and votive medals! maybe some relics from the Second World War! 😊😮😊😅
A metal detector, that's a great idea!
I wish… but this place was picked clean in the 80’s…
@@beeseurotravel Certainly in a crude way! All over Italy you can find old coins! Sicily with all the settlements....
@@Sclero80 Seriously, though.. I’ve heard all of the stories. Men from Catania with huge metal detectors, excavators. Somebody nearby had dug up an old church while digging a foundation and lots of gold was discovered. Afterwards people were all over this place with metal detectors - to the point that farmers started littering their properties with small coins and shotgun pellets to annoy people.
Hi guys!
I love your videos. Can't wait to watch them on Sunday morning with my coffee.
My family is from Augusta, just a short ride from you. One of our favorite places to hang in good weather is El Faro near Brucoli.
Check it out along with Brucoli.
Enjoy!

Great. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing the old videos. I enjoyed the Dad’s joke.
How safe is your area of Sicily?
No problems here as far as I can tell. Not even petty theft. 🤞

Learning to carbon test could be interesting and fun. Then you could learn how old your chards are.
That? Would be incredible 😊 A little cost prohibitive though…
Ciao-
We enjoy your videos and are fellow New Englanders! My Sicilan born husband and I will be retiring early to Sicily in 2025. Can you explain how you were able to show the extra income for the visa? We are not receiving ss yet and need a creative way to show passive income with will bascially be mostly savings and money from the sale of our home in CT. If you could share how you did it we would really appreciate it. Grazie !
Check out last weeks video. We laid it out 😊
We just moved to Catania do you know of any good hiking and foraging areas?
Not my neck of the woods. Sorry 🫤 But I’m sure you’ll find some great trails and foraging around Etna. Maybe this will help?

In your "info" when the doors open, what is it you're saying in Sicilian, translate at least into Italian. (Entrare ? ? ? ? ) Would love to pick up some of the Sicilian language.
"Amuninni" stands for "andiamo" in italian. Let's go!
Amuninni. Sicilian for Andiamo “Let’s go.”
@@beeseurotravel Thank you, and more please.
What is the exact spelling of castelluccio, as you described it?
That’s it.
E i funghi?
NIENTE!!
Hi both, I love your videos.
I always get nostalgic...
Every time I come to Sicily, the "Necropolis of Pantalica" is a place I have to visit.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necropolis_of_Pantalica
You may have already been there, but if not, it's worth a visit.
I love this place and I it's not far from your location.
We’ll have to check it out. Thanks!
