- Want an inside look at running a 30+ mile & 65 obstacles Ultra Spartan Race?
Learn about some of the obstacles and the mindset I'm running the race with throughout the race.
I loved this Ultra Spartan course in North Carolina. A good amount of hills, not flat, but not so brutally incline/decline the whole time like my first Ultra in Tahoe. That one was so dang hard I wrote a chapter in my book about it - Chapter - • If I Lost It All Today...
One thing I've learned about OCR Racing and trail running is to have the right gear! It's so important to take care of the feet in particular, but also just, in general, to stay warm and protect the body.
You're already putting in a lot of work. Personally, I'd prefer to have the right gear to at least have that 1 edge working for me.
The gear I'm using in the video are:
Solomon OCR Shoes (INCREDIBLE!) Men's - amzn.to/3xzi2yI Women's - amzn.to/3E4zopg
Mud Gear Socks - Knee High - amzn.to/3nY4M3o
Quarter Socks - amzn.to/32Gn6Wx
Boot Height - amzn.to/3p7ybrh
Body Thermal for cold races - Game changer to at least not be freezing!

I love it, No one else with know, but you'll know....... Thanks for the motivation for my first BEAST tomorrow in Dallas.
Thanks for the feedback. How did you do on that Beast Race?
I’ve never run a Spartan race before.. I just ran my first race ever about a month ago called Ragnar.. I love pushing myself to the limit of where I want to quit… but pushing through the pain! I just signed up for an ultra in November in South Carolina.. and I’m obsessed with the idea of finishing that race!! Thanks for the video man! I’ll be crossing that finish line soon!
Did you cross the finish line?
Thank you so much for making this video and sharing your thoughts in real time on the course! I’m doing my first Ultra at this event this year and you are very inspiring! Great job!
Train hard and put in the miles on your feet now! You'll do great.
Thanks for the support and it's coming right back at you. Go get it!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video. I just finished my Spartan Beast recently. Now I am thinking on signing up for Ultra. You inspired me.
You can do it!
I was at the beast that year for my first trifecta, you are an inspiration and savage! This was a huge help as I’m looking to do an Ultra, thank you!
Thank you!
Great job man, looking to do my first Ultra soon and really enjoyed the video. I ran the Sprint there last year, but nothing compared to what you did. Awesome job!
Train really good and get mileage on your legs before hand. Enjoy the process and reward of the ultra
Thanks for the encouragement. Truth is anybody can do the longer races. If you put yourself in a failure is not an option mindset you'll just do it
Thanks for putting the extra work in to document your journey. Helped me realize when the mind games will begin. Doing this race in about 2 weeks, but in the hot season.
You will do great... Lots of practice and conditioning leading UpTo then
How did you do?
@@leveluplifestylenow Thanks for asking. Well, I finished! I raced age group and was pretty slow for the 40-45 year olds, but not too slow that I got cut. Only failed 5 obstacles so that's good.
Thanks again for all the good advice from your video. God bless.
That’s a crazy accomplishment👏🏻 May I ask you did you start as a runner or athlete of some sport. I want to train this year for an Ultra
I was never runner and still to the stage and I consider myself a runner. One day I was sick and tired of being a little overweight and smoking so I signed up for a beast race that was 12 days later and I got addicted and I haven't stopped since. Over a couple years and the compound effect transformed my body. You can do it so can anybody else. Hard work good diet keep doing races multiplied by time and eventually your body will be dialed in
Was this the SC event in Newberry? Thanks for the vid!
I mis-read, this is NC not SC, my bad!
This was actually in North Carolina just outside Henderson south of Asheville. It was a really nice venue at an equestrian Park
Hugeeeee 💪
Great video great job
Aroooo from Portugal
Salud! Thanks for the feedback.
What was the difference in your pace between the first lap and the second lap?
And how far did you run/walk during training?
When training for an ultra I'll do 10 to 15 miles a couple times a week. Within the run I also do hundreds of burpees push-ups and pull-ups. I don't have an OCR course to train so I really work on maxing out the fundamental body weight type workouts
How much time did you have to finish?
I finished in 9:25:52
Personally, I am racing myself and no one else.
My first Ultra in Tahoe took me 11:34 but the terrain was so much more difficult.
@@leveluplifestylenow Yes. Totally agree about racing against yourself. Doing the Fayetteville, NC Ultra this May 1st. Shooting to get it done in 12 hours 🤞🏻
is his name really brandon? Let's go brandon? :))
Yes at the very beginning the guy's name was brandon. The guy who starts the race asked if there was any first timers, it was his first time and asked his name and it was brandon. The announcer correct some jokes about it and the whole crowd loved it. It was hilarious!
