OMG WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!!! IT'S "LIE-UHL"!!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!! Sorry I had to! LOL! XD I had a family friend with that name years ago so I always knew how to pronounce it. However when it came to spelling it.................that's where my "Lisle" moment came in LOL! Also I kinda rushed my last cam bearing replacement a few months ago when I built my Magnum again. I can never get the oil holes perfect on the first try! If I have to reinstall new cam bearings more than once I get really pissed lol! Otherwise I think cam bearings are kinda fun to do! If you got all the holes well lined up on the first try you're a legend!
I know you know but the caliper jaws were set to deep in the bearing to measure the wall thickness, the tapered tips of the jaws are for that reason to measure thickness of the wall. we probably only talking bout a couple thousands or so thats why we call them veneer calipers very nears cuz they get you close but not perfect readings, no matter what brand or who is using them.
Nice share, we build engines daily we turn the block up side down and install the bearing aligning the feed holes next install the camshaft to make sure it turns freely then move forward!!
Good job man I'm fixing to do mine this whole big block 460 kind of scary haven't done it since the seven 70 and 80s hope it goes as good as yours wish me luck man
This is awesome love how you talk through and share your mess ups and how you fixed them I've watched a lot of how too channels but yours is the best in my book gonna be a fun ride when your done
Great gift that bearing installer and a good tutorial on how to use it. Enjoyed the video. Wouldn't dream of correcting your pronunciation, different side of the Pond makes a big difference sometimes!
Great video….its not leslie though, its lyle…….i was wondering what those washers were for, my kit came with no instructions, so you sir were my instructions……im goin in!!!
ive never done a magnum but the older la blocks the #2 and #4 bearing feeds oil up into the heads and into the rocker shafts and im not positive but i think the magnum feeds through the pushrods like a chevy. i take a marker and mark the block and the back of the bearing. the 408 that im build now ,i let the machine shop install them since they bored and cleaned my block.
By chance are you in the Valiant club on facebook? The car looks familiar. I watched this video because I'm getting ready to put bearing in my Desoto hemi block. Been 40 years since I've done it, so I watched your video as a refresher course.
When you reinstalled the cap on the back of the motor, how far did you hit it in? Do you take it as far as it can go? I'm doing one myself and not sure if it needs to contact the cam or sit flush with the outer edge of the block
Are the magnum and LA cam bearings the same? LA block has additional oil holes on 2&4 bearings for rocker shaft oil passage so placement of those oil holes is also crucial. Thanks for sharing.
If you're installing the main caps before the cam bearings, why not also install the heads? Seems to me the heads might also affect the shape of the block.
good point. I don't have an answer for you. I'm not sure if any of it matters. I'm just taking information that is available and applying it for the best possible results in my Garage build.
@@TheGasTap I agree it's probably a negligible improvement. But now that I've had my eyes opened by that Hot Rod article, the geek in me will probably have a hard time _not_ also torque-ing the heads with some old head gaskets before the cam bearings.
@@TheGasTap I thought I remembered you talking about it in a past vid. Did you have any trouble doing it that way I have the same tool you just used and need to do my Magnum 360.
I almost bought this one. The PT tool version of this is junk. The rubber sleeve would break all of the. The main concern is how most of these tools are made to work best with a small block Chevy.
So in my situation I was just doing a cam swap and I noticed the cam bearings are worn and need replaced. My lower end is not taken apart but my engine is on a stand with the top end torn completely off. Is it still possible to replace these bearings as it sits? I have never taken pistons and crank out before so I'd like to leave the lower end alone.
@@TheGasTap Well I'll be attempting it over the weekend. I just got done rebuilding my heads with Hughes valve springs and lapping my valves in. Hopefully I knock them out and the new ones in without any huge problems.
I hate to buy that tool now. I should have bought one years ago. I used to take my blocks to have them vat cleaned and have cam bearings and freeze plugs installed. My shop is gone now and has been gone for years. I told a friend of mine that you have to build a trust with the person who does your machine work, and I honestly don't know who to take it to anymore. And I'm the only one I trust to build my engine's right.
Let's see how many comments I get correcting me on the pronunciation of "Lisle" lol

Nice I'm glad you shared this . great vedios. Kenny from Texas. Thanks.
Awesome to see the love coming through with someone donating a new tool.
Also awesome to see progress on the Valiant 360 mark 2.

Nice job on the install. I have always let a machine shop install them for me. Call me chicken? Yes bok bok LOL
That’s freaking awesome!

Nicely done video, clear speaking and clear video, feeling confident to do on my 360 after watching this

Great Video very informative cam bearing can be a pain sometimes.
Thanks again! ⚒

Lisle is pronounced like Lyle. Like a guys name. Made in Clarinda, Iowa. (My home state) They make great specialty tools.
Haha. Gotcha. Check the pinned comment. 😂
Great share Alex , Very nice gift there ! ENJOYED..
Great video and very well explained .

I’m not on the Valiant FB page.
Thanks for watching!
thank you for the time bro
The best video i have seen ...now i know what to do thinks
Liked before watching!!
Awesome video thanks for the help Alex
Where did you get your Clevite cam bearings. All I can find is sealed power and enginetech. Thanks.
I purchased an EngineTech engine rebuild kit and they were in the kit.
After installing the bearings, is there anything special about how to install the rear camshaft seal/plug?
Just like installing a freeze plug.
When you reinstalled the cap on the back of the motor, how far did you hit it in? Do you take it as far as it can go? I'm doing one myself and not sure if it needs to contact the cam or sit flush with the outer edge of the block
It’s been a while. I can’t remember.
Are the magnum and LA cam bearings the same? LA block has additional oil holes on 2&4 bearings for rocker shaft oil passage so placement of those oil holes is also crucial. Thanks for sharing.
Yes sir. Same part #. If you look at my bearings, 2&4 have 3 oiling holes.
great stuff

Lol. Cool article right? I’m always reading!!!
Yeh, it is not necessary to install anything to the block to put cam bearings in.
You gives some good content.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Very educational . Good video!
Great video 👍🏾
I know this is about cam bearings, but what main bearing set do you use?
I used an Engine Tech rebuild kit. The bearings in the kit were marked Kings. There’s a video on my channel of the build.
Best cam brgs are durabond.
Thanks
Have you done this with the long block assembled before ?
I did it on Big Red’s current 360.
@@TheGasTap I thought I remembered you talking about it in a past vid. Did you have any trouble doing it that way I have the same tool you just used and need to do my Magnum 360.
It’s hard to get the wrench on from the top. It just takes a little longer.

Long as you get the baron aligned right so the oil goes with supposed to you alright not install it and have you drinking buddy say you did it wrong
👍
Alex ,it's pronounced LYLE
Gotcha 🤣. Check the pinned comment. I’m gonna start messing with you guys
@@TheGasTap I saw it before I wrote the comment. You just think you got me.
