I'm Daiki, originally from Kyoto, Japan. I moved to Finland for my masters degree in business in 2016 and now I'm working in the capital area, Helsinki. Through this channel I'm hoping to share my experience in Finland and sometimes abroad, including culture, career, lifestyle and travel diaries.

Most of us non-native Finns end up in tourism as we can get away with English. It’s an ideal easy start and then you get to know more people and jobs will open up. I’ve been two small company’s first ever employee and it’s been really fun. Once people know you work hard and are trustworthy more doors will open for you despite lack of good Finnish language skills. There are also many European companies here that again you can get away with using English and basic Finnish.

Hello Daiki! Thank you so much for this awesome video. I didn't have any expectations at first but after I realised that we had the same interests - international business and entrepreneurship - your video happened to be extremely helpful. I am half Russian who was born in Germany and still lives there. I am just turning 18 this year so I still have a couple of years until I start going to university. But I know for sure that I want to experience different cultures in different countries and reach my fullest potential as an entrepreneur. Again, thank you so much and have an amazing weekend :))

Great, informative video. I can also add that when I lived in Finland there were many job fairs and events. Lots of start-up companies need IT workers, most of whom work in English so Finnish isn't super important (Although I'd still highly recommend learning it). Also make sure your CV and LinkedIn pages are spruced up. CV should be only 1 page, and have a photo. LinkedIn page should be detailed and list all former jobs and tasks. That is what got me my job there :)

finland is not really good at career development, slowly progress, low salary with high tax, unaffordable house and many reasons showed that fin is not an attractive place to find a job, ofc i want to move to fin to retire tho

Hello Daiki! As a Finnish I can agree with your tips of how to get a job, especially the emphasis of getting the very first part time job. I would also add one more tip which is to make some free time projects to show your interest on the field you're applying to. For ex. if you're applying on IT business doing some own hobby projects such as coding, testing, business intelligence etc can be of much value. Similarly if you're studying any other fields you can try to make some free time project which can be put on CV as reference. Good luck for job hunting everyone! :)

Hi, Daiki. Thank you for your very informative video! I'm from Indonesia and planning to apply Public Health Master's in Finland for the next academic year (2023). To your experience while living in Finland for many years, is there any chance to find a job related to Public Health after finishing Master's study there? I need some information. Thank you.
Honestly I'm not familiar with the area, but I think in general you could find a job much easier if you speak Finnish in public healthcare but you never know until you try :)
I'd like to thank you for your sharing, Daiki! One more question, according to your experience, is there any chance to learn Finnish at the University or other institutions while studying there? If yes, that's an advantage in preparing next career after finishing Master's there.
you’ll need to have a certain level of Finnish fluency to work in public healthcare, so better prepare yourself with Finnish before graduation.
I will be starting my bachelors in digital art and game character design. I want to ask that will I be allowed to work online in finnland by taking commissions and selling my products online like prints, keychains and more and start my own small online business, will i have a chance to apply for permanent residency permit or citizenship?

Current job situation on the 21st of January 2023 as I write this from Finland is that there is a LOT of need for nurses, nurse-practitioners, dentists, dental nurses, elderly care workers, daycare workers and doctors and other health professionals (radiologists, special healthcare system specialists, the like). The pay is not that great however, except for Doctors ofc, and nurses require a bachelor level nursing degree in the least along with at least basic Finnish skills. So if someone asks for water or food or injury treatment and so on, you know at least where to go and what to do or who to ask help from so the patient gets care. Depends fully on the type of job however, but general rule of thumb is that if you work outside of Helsinki or Rovaniemi or other big cities (Oulu, Tampere, Turku, not sure about Joensuu), you need to know Finnish in those fields to be able to work with the native patients (or the elderly and kids who do not know english or do not have a firm grasp of it).
Programming jobs in IT are also in high demand, the more demanding the programming language you know and can do actual work with, the more pay you can get. A friend of mine for example learned React and TypeScript/Angular (you can argue if those are programming languages or not but anyway) in three previous jobs after graduating and then got a ridiculously high paying job from a programming company in Helsinki or Espoo area. Almost tripled his monthly pay by doing that.
TLDR: Healthcare and IT. The more demanding the job, the more education and Finnish skills you need, though this depends on the type of people and customers you will be working with. The more pay you will also get.
My own pay currently in the IT field as a native Finnish person in the world of Software Testing (no programming required): 3700€ per month.
Paygrade development: 2500€ per month after graduating from bachelors degree in my first job, outside of Helsinki but near it. 2800€ per month in the next job, same city, which then rose to 3200€ per month when and then to 3500€ within 5 years. Latest job pumped it up to 3700€ per month.
Another friend of mine who has programming as part of his testing job, is earning 3800€ per month right now, after also around 5 years of working in the same job.

@@iamtbay I would say bigger cities like Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Joensuu. So cities where most of the population growth and other works are at as well. Smaller cities might work too if you apply for a bigger company that has its global HQ in a smaller town, like say KONE Elevators or Konecranes.
@@oguedoihuchigozirim7257 IoT is a great way to get your foot between the door. It opens a lot of career paths from Software Programming to Software Testing to Network Engineering and the like. Savonia region is also located in the lake & forest area of Finland so there is a ton to do during all seasons there outside of work. And if the region is not to your liking after a year or two, IoT experience allows you relatively easy access to other jobs in bigger cities and more population heavy areas like Helsinki and its surrounding cities, Tampere, Turku and so on. Helsinki and Tampere is where most of the IT & IoT jobs are but also where the heaviest competition is for those job positions. So IoT role in Savonia region is a great opportunity, especially for a person moving to Finland from abroad.
