    The thing that surprises me about the J7 is I find it’s blue “object detection light” comes on even with things that aren’t specifically listed as obstacles to avoid. And without a complete map too!
    My dad does wine making as a hobby and it can semi reliably not bump into empty wine bottles at all.
    As well as different types of other garments, like towels and t shirts etc. backpacks and book bags and other general toys, video game controllers/headsets etc.
    Obviously you still need to clean up before it comes out but if I accidentally leave something on the floor, I’m not worried about the robot or the item getting destroyed.

      @@MrRoombato yes I just updated the app and it took significantly longer to find it’s home than before, often going in the opposite direction

    In your opinion what are the best robot vacuums on the market?

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  2 года назад

      Depends on the price range and your needs. So...how much do you want to spend? Do you need vacuuming only or mopping too? How much of your floors is carpeting vs hard floors? Do you have furry pets? How many? Do you have tall floor dividers?

      @@MrRoombato I'll bite! I need vacuuming and mopping and don't care if the same robot does it, or if I have to buy two. I just bought a j7/m6 bundle and am not impressed. What I wouldn't pay for robots that worked well. I was going to buy the highest priced roomba but the terrible reviews scared me away from that idea. My first j7 was defective right out of the box. Roomba sent a replacement, and while it works, is is so glitchy. Doesn't dock well. Sucks up my dog's rope toys. I would LOVE to know which robots represent your holy grails!

      @@fluffycockatoo The Roborock S7 MaxV with the Ultra dock (coming in early May) is the best right now. The Ecovacs X1 OMNI may become one of my favorites, but its issues would have to be worked out first (and they very well may be!). If you want something less expensive, the Dreame W10 is amazing, its only flaws being that it does not empty its own dust bin and has no object avoidance (it too will suck up your dog's rope toys). But if the j7 can't avoid them, then I doubt the Roborock or Ecovacs could either. At least not until they nail down the technology.
      I would get the Roborock and wait for the ultra dock.

    The amount of attention to pet waste avoidance is ridicllous.
    How many people have pet waste laying around the house?
    If you do have a pet that is being trained ,why would you run a robot vacuum when you were not at home?

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  2 года назад +1

      This is an excellent question and I am very happy to explain! There are two reasons, the first should be obvious.
      1. If a vacuum gets tangled in cords or sucks up a sock, it's a minor inconvenience. If it hits a big pile of dog crap, it's an epic disaster. It will spread that crap all over the house (or whatever part of it that it is cleaning) and all over itself, including internally. So that's why the emphasis with object avoidance is on pet waste.
      2. Even the best trained dogs have "accidents." For example, a dog might get sick (stomach issues) and not be able to hold it. If you're home, the dog will usually come to you and beg to go outside. If you're not home, or if you're sleeping, or the dog thinks you will probably shoo it away, it will just go on the floor. You don't have to not be home for this to happen. You just have to be otherwise occupied. If you have cats, well, cats are little assholes and may just poop on the floor because reasons. Maybe they don't like the state of the litter box. Maybe they are angry with you. The point is, it happens.
      As for why you would run a robot when you're not home or when you're sleeping, because a dog might get sick and poop on your floor two or three times in its life. And you cannot and should not alter your entire life because of this. So a robot that can identify and avoid pet poop is a wonderful thing that removes this concern.

      @MrRoombato  2 года назад

      For example, I did not run robots at night until I had some that could avoid poop. Because we have a dumb little rescue dog that was absurdly hard to house break. And, once in a blue moon, the little shit forgets. Now I can run robots at night (although the J7 isn't one of them because it can't really navigate in the dark) without worrying about it (much). And running robots at night while you're sleeping is awesome and changes everything.

      Hi Mr. Roombato (love the name) - I think Daniel C. (Above) might have been supporting the poop-avoidance technology in reply to Daniel K. by saying sometimes “accidents happen or your pet gets sick. Just my opinion 😄. I just ordered the J7 and look forward to watching more of your excellent reviews. Keep up the good work.

    Roomba is surprisingly efficient, thx for this video. Btw do you think this is only algorithm matter or may be due to a different quality sensors on both vacs?

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  2 года назад +1

      I think it's primarily the algorithm, by which I mean not just what to do after the object is identified, but how it identifies the object to begin with. But it may also be the processor. The Roomba needs a very powerful processor for vslam navigation (because vslam is terrible). But I don't know that the j7 has a more powerful processor than the Roborock S6 MaxV, so I'm guessing it's the algorithm.
