Idk why I’m so worried about my background investigation, but I am. The only things in my background are a speeding ticket 2 years ago and I tried pot a handful of times 8 years ago. I guess I’m just worried about what other people may say or what little harmless thing they may try to blow out of proportion. Hoping to get through this quickly and successfully!

Be honest and carefully read what the personal history statement states on each category. Also, you read the application to make sure you're qualified to apply it, if yes. Then, fill everything out and don't withhold anything. Usually, one ticket won't hurt you unless the department states that etc. Good luck

This video makes me feel a hundred times better about my background check. I am one of those that had a felony a long time ago (for a nonviolent offense), and thus had it expunged in 2013. All of my rights were restored as of the September 2nd, 2013. The crime was committed in 2009. But again, it has been expunged. I am currently going through the background phase of my potential hiring. When showing my recruiter my expungement letter, she didn't understand it. I am her first expungement that she has ever dealt with. There are two parts of the letter. The top and middle applies to nonviolent offenders whilst the bottom violent offenders. When she first looked at the letter she read the bottom part of the letter which deals with violent offenders. Yes, in Louisiana they put both R.S. expungements on the same letter. The beginning and middle of the letter explains my situation and how all of my rights were restored. I vote, have a hunting license, and own a firearm, I just hope my recruiter is able to decipher the letter adequately. I have wanted to be an police officer since the 5th grade.

I'm worried about the background as well. I've never been arrested and my 1 and only speeding ticket (I contested) was 15 years ago. Never any drug use or run ins with police. I was raised never to get to know your neighbors as it invites trouble. I couldn't even identify my neighbors in a lineup. I have three BA degrees but never graduated high school. So, not sure if they're require me to go back and get a GED even though I have college degrees. So, it's minor things but together I'm not sure how they'll be.

They had us fill out the application for the background right after the interview and since there's about a 2 wk span of time between filing out the Personal History Information packet, I've had time to think about some of the questions and realized that I have remembered somethings now that I didn't remember then. Stuff like: "Have you stolen anything from your workplace?" I said no, but I now remember using the printer a few times to print out personal things... and "Traffic violations" I have texted and drove before, and I have sped over the speed limit multiple times, I've done california stops on stop signs, etc.... I didn't really remember or think about these things in the PD lounge. Should I just bring these up? Seems silly, but the polygraph may show I'm "lying" when it was just honest oversight.

Graduated over a year ago and I had to wait 8 months to get a job. I'm not really making a sustainable living. Interviewed for 3 or 4 different departments, they do visit your home. I live clean, and I have a clean record. Had one very very minor juvenile expungement for being disorderly so it's not even on record and was tossed, I make sure to mention this but still haven't been able to find a well-paying job. I feel like a failure and don't understand why I can't be successful in this career. There are fraudulent reports at the local sheriff's office from family members claiming I was arrested for domestic violence (WHICH HAS NEVER EVER HAPPENED and I have NEVER been violent with anyone), The Sheriff's office public arrest records shows no arrests because I've never been arrested (EVER, not even for the juvenile disorderly that got thrown out). Can someone explain how you navigate and be successful, clean record, 3rd party civil dispute reports that are basically lie and slander parties by family members who are whack in the head and like to lie.

Hello, thank you for this video. I took the NYPD exam and passed. However, I have a history of domestic violence. I wasn't the abuser, But my children's father was. In the past, he has hit me, but all charges were dropped, and we separated. After being separated for almost two years, we returned together. No more violence. Since the history and we live together, would this disqualify me from becoming a police officer or correction officer? I consider myself honest, determined, a team player, independent, and a hard worker. I have been working at my current job for 11 years, so I am not worried about my work background check. I don't consider myself to have friends now like acquaintances, so would they also be questioned? I work seven days a week and am off every other weekend, so I don't have time to meet people since I spend my free time with my family.

I feel like they should let certain people with non violent criminal records join the force because people that have made mistakes should have the right to have a chance to do right and deserve a chance to protect and serve our infested communities . If they were more cops with criminal and gang history they are more likely to help communities more then cops with out any criminal or gang background . In my opinion a ex con that wants to make a change in his community will impact the community in a more positive manner due to passion of making things right then a cop who’s never been caught up or convicted of any crime. Cops who have criminal history are more likely to be more of a asset because they know how criminals think and they are more likely to impact the lives of those who are up to no good because they can relate and touch the young hearts of those that can also help our communities before they fall into correctional facilities and gang violence . We need people with criminal experience and street knowledge in the streets of high crime neighborhoods instead of punk officers who used to get bullied in high school.

If it's not on paper, like an arrest or field identification card they might not ever find out. You have to be consistent in your cover ups. For example you apply to one department and get denied another one may hire you. They will see the background packet from the first one so you have to be consistent. Don't admit to anything that's not on paper. AND DON'T CHANGE YOUR STORY! They will try to get you to open up, but don't. You change your answer you're done. Also go to your local social security office and get your 10 year print out. It will have every job you paid taxes on, so you can't hide your work history unless it was under the table. Never admit to using anything harder than Marijuana more than 3 times and last use was over 5 years ago. Also when you take the polygraph they will say even if you passed, that you showed deception. • @Beuwen_The_Dragon
      @Beuwen_The_Dragon 11 месяцев назад

      No…
The more standardized and homogenized law enforcement becomes, the more susceptible to corruption it becomes..
For the time being, (albeit less so each passing year) law enforcement in the USA is very compartmentalized.. from local, county, state and federal levels.
Every state is different, and from there every county is different, and further still every city and town is different..
This compartmentalization prevents widespread corruption and abuses. A department of one town or city might be rife with corruption and abuses, but it doesn’t mean that it can easily spread to neighboring towns or counties.. likewise a State or federal official might become abusive of their authority and corrupt a state or federal agency, but not the county or local agencies underneath…
This system of compartmentalization is an intentional system of checks and balances that prevents widespread corruption and keeps local law enforcement in check and answering to the local communities they serve.
The more things become homogenized and regulated under a single top-down system, the more readily corruption and abuses can be committed, especially the higher up the corruption takes place… we see this all the time in larger cities with massive law enforcement agencies, and in larger state and federal agencies..
More States are heavily regulating the law enforcement agencies under them with each passing year, and more still are pushing towards federalizing and doing away with local law enforcement all together….
This is something we DO NOT want to come to pass…

No one's perfect and there will be more "mistakes" in your life than you currently realize. What's on paper doesn't describe you completely and the Background Investigator can read... what they really want to know is YOU on a deeper level.

@@stephancunningham3072 That was just a few examples. Like I said, no one is perfect. Have you ever "stolen" something from the office? This includes taking paper or pens, or even using the printer for personal use to print something out... Things that no one would "care" about, but technically it is still "stealing" or mismanagement of company resources. Have you illegally streamed movies off of the internet? Have you illegally downloaded songs or software from torrents? Etc...

@@stephancunningham3072 Exactly. No one going into the background check should have the "I don't have to worry about anything" mentality. Everyone has sinned at some point or other. Just admit to it and explain it. A candidate that comes in and says "Yeah, I'm 100% clean" is lying. Straight up. What separates the adults from the children is taking responsibility for what you have done, and to admit it, you have to acknowledge it first. Fail to acknowledge it and you're actually worse off than someone who's committed it and learned from their mistakes.
