    The B is the sweet spot IMO for space trucking. Nice stats and a great price.

    I like your attitude in these older videos...
    2015: "If you're pledging, 200 $ is a lot for a ship..."
    2017: "Bored, how much money did you spend on ships in star citizen?" "ALL THE MONEY!" :P

    Wondering if contrary to part of that official warning, the smaller haulers will actually be the preferred targets for pirates.
    Think about it. A squadron of pirate fighters, based from a Caterpillar (for example) see a Hull-E. Assuming they can defeat it, there's a huge amount of loot to be had, but more likely than not it's going to be carrying huge volumes of the least valuable least processed materials. No one is going to be flying all around on a 1000 stop trading run, picking up and selling individual high value containers at each stop. The starting capital required to fill up a super tanker with high-end goods, weaponry, and rare limited availability resources, will be infeasible. And likewise, there's not going to be demand or customers enough for that bulk of high value products in one trip. Combined with the higher risk of attacking a larger ship, pirates aren't going to be interested in trying to load up for a thousand separate low reward cargo runs to fence their loot.
    A Hull-A or B, or a Freelancer however... Those are the players that aren't going to be able to make any profit hauling small quantities of bulk basics. They're the ones that will be freighting high end gear, weaponry, rare resources, and special packages. The kinds of cargoes that pirates may not even need to sell off to benefit from. They're also the kind both easier to take down, and that won't have high enough profit margins per run to afford hiring escorts. And attacking them is much less likely to receive the undue attention and wrath of a larger player organisation.
    TL;DR... You Freelancer pilots keep an eye on your wing mirrors. You've likely picked the fun ship that everyone will assume is on a secret mission to smuggle the fun things.

    • @plasticdeath31
      @plasticdeath31 4 года назад +4

      That's a good point, unless the pirates are able to actually steal the whole ship rather than just nicking the cargo. Stealing a Hull E whatever it was carrying would be a very very good haul.

      Excellent observations, from both of you.
      I'd add: Human beings are dangerous.
      Make sure you KNOW your crew mates.
      Maintain pleasant working environments, etc.
      Never know how boredom and greed might mix.

      Those ships will also be far harder to detect and spend a lot less time loading and unloading goods.

    Get the type E, never load it with cargo, convert it into an exploration vessel. Imagine the power provided by those engines. I could see a scifi TV program being made, where a plucky type E crew challenges an encroaching alien threat using the unparalleled speed of that thing.

    You could turn a Hull E into a mobile sales port. If you park at a safe zone halfway along some trade route people would be willing to give you a skim off of their profits in exchange for only having to make the first or second half of the trip while you buy from people making the first half and sell at a small markup to people making the second.
    Heck I'd do that if I was a small time freighter hiring unreliable freelance escorts for each run. By reducing the effort for and profit of each load the pain of a pirate attack would be so much less, and the risk of being abandoned or betrayed by my escort would also be reduced.

    7 years later and the Hull A which was said to hold more SCU than the Freelancer because it 'doesn't trade cargo space for weaponry' and doesn't have the 'jack of all trades' aspect to it... nope, Hull A holds less SCU than the Freelancer, lol.

    Hull B for me

    • @Gearen
      @Gearen 9 лет назад

      Lorenzo Dontello I would get the C, but having an Orion, I don't need all that cargo, just a Freelancer size ship to make some cargo missions and works. Also I think the prize for the B is really great.

    • @Gearen
      @Gearen 9 лет назад

      Lorenzo Dontello yeah, for sure there will be smaller miner ships, I just hope the npc's aren't too stupid and control then will be relatively easy... but I always can fill it with real people from my org

    • @Gearen
      @Gearen 9 лет назад +1

      Lorenzo Dontello also.... have in mind that CIG said that the Hulls will have a great modularity, maybe they are going to have some module for turning a Hull into a miner....

    • @iKerbals
      @iKerbals 9 лет назад

      ***** Hull B holds exactly the same amount of SCU as the refined ore in an Orion! You will be able to stay mining while transporting back a full load of refined ore! Nice job!

    • @Gearen
      @Gearen 9 лет назад

      iKerbals actually the Orion can carry 16888 SCU, and the Hull B 600 SCU. I would need at least a Hull D to be able to carry a full Orion's cargo

    • @mENTALdRIFTER
      @mENTALdRIFTER 8 лет назад +9

      Old comment, but worth responding to cause this stuff is cool. The reason why we, as an intelligent species, do not build any BIG space ships right now is due to two primary factors.
      First, our propulsion is still based around highly ineffective chemical rockets, which cannot push very hard or fast when compared to other realistic and theoretical methods, and second, because we do not yet have the ability to build in space. Once we become more advanced and capable with propulsion methods and with meta materials, which are metals and plastics and such whose molecular structure is purpose designed - making them crazy strong, light, etc - we will have the ability to build amazing, massive, and super advanced ships.
      While there are other factors limiting us right now, such as radiation shielding, micro-gravity degeneration, battery capacity, and more - it is the two above factors that (engines and building stuff in space) that when solved, will put us on the cusp of a HUGE spike in space faring capability.

      I wish I could have been born in the time when we, as a civilization, start to push out of our solar system to colonize new planets. But I also would not have known any of the people I do now, or have done anything I have done, so I'm not sad about it. But going to space and exploring uninvited planets is my dream, though I know it will never happen.

    Space Casino?!? SPACE CASINO! I really wish that they would start using additional funding to fuel mini-games within the game. Starting with casino games and then pub games, then maybe tabletop games. Seems like it would not affect the development timeline of the game but would be a huge immersion boost. It would have given people something to do in the Social Mod... besides window shop.

      You'd have to, the Hull E can store fighters in the cargo pods, so it'd act like an aircraft carrier. The entire Hull series, especially the E, will have a shit ton of armor and super strong shields, and thats without a player purposely designing their hull to be a fucking battlecruiser. With the 3rd party attachments, they could get ultra-strong sheild generators, fill their cargo with turrets and fighters, and proceed to anihilate any small group of pirates trying to attack it. it wouldn't be surprising to see "battle-hulls" go alongside the other hulls or more hull-e's to act as a defense ship.

    How much of this is just RP and how much of it will really be in-game mechanics?
    Like... will you actually need to find players to man fighter-crafts to escort the Hull D every time you plan on doing a trade run? Will you be able to hire NPC crew-men to help you get the job done? Or is this all mostly fluff and they don't really know yet how the game mechanic is going to work?

    • @BoredGamerUK
      @BoredGamerUK  9 лет назад +1

      PTNLemay Yes you can hire lots of NPCs to crew or pilot stuff. There will be "quests" from NPCs to escort stuff as well as from players.

      MrChristoffer5700 I hope so if economics is going to be such a huge part of the game than I hope they scaled everything correctly so you really have to earn money, you don't just do one trade mission and get enough for a ship hopefully it takes tens if not hundreds just to buy an avenger for example.

    I would like a hull because I like space truckin. But they are just too much of a target. Every pirate will jump on them even if it's just an A.

      Concept? have you not even been paying any attention lately? the Hull-C is already being tested in game (in dev builds) and fully built out, it's in final detail stage now.

      actually there quite a number of people who did, however yes, majority of current 2 million "Citizens" likely wouldnt. i myself own a Hull-E, gonna be fun hauling enough things to supply like a whole moon in one trip lol.
      Also, once the Hull-C is finished, the others will likely follow pretty quickly soon after.

    Think the HULL series are incredibly ugly in terms of aesthetics. There are probably half a dozen ships floating around on the web that I would like more. Clearly MISC is the wrong company for this design; personally I think they should have went with something original instead of trying to emulate the Freelancer. Perhaps a vertical design! But no, we got the usual same old horizontal ship based on a design that doesn't work. Sorry but the HULL is a bust.

      Joe Yamanaka
      Front to back is significantly better than side to side or top to bottom for a number of reasons:
      *Much smaller cross section, making it harder to hit from ships following it and less likely to hit asteroids.
      *Much lower moment required to change direction, making the ship much more maneuverable.
      *Easier to control in general, as the front section of the ship is only a small part rather than most or all of the ship.
      Chris Roberts is a fan of realism and plausible physics. He's not gonna change a fundamentally good design just because you think it's not quirky enough. You don't like Star Citizen? Actually that sucks, I want there to be as many people as possible populating the universe to support as vibrant an economy as possible, but oh well, can't change bad tastes.

    • @joeyamanaka7850
      @joeyamanaka7850 9 лет назад

      ***** Actually I am all for realism. But how real does a space sim about an imaginary future have to be? It really comes down to how you 'imagine' that realism will unfold. As for your presumption that I don't like Star Citizen, you couldn't be more wrong. In fact I probably have more money tied up in Star Citizen than you. Which brings me to the HULL. It is really ugly. It doesn't get any more real than that.
      But that's all good. At least we can agree there's no accounting for taste. Personally I will be flying a Merchantman, which, if stats are correct for this little hauler, will be able to blow any of the HULL out of the galaxy. And that's alright by me. :)

    so this will transport goods like armor, water bottles, guns bullets, and all of that but that makes me wonder if it will be able to carry ore ether refined ore or raw type.. ummm. see that this is posted in 2015 and now it is 2022 and it still has not came out yet to figure the outcome of what it should be able to do.. so Let's see what will happen to this when it actually does come out.
