My son had Beta Thalassemia, had blood transfusions every month, and passed in 2021 at 18 years.
This new gene therapy will help so many.
Are you sure that it was beta thalassemia, not Coley anemia, because it's is the severity side of beta thalassemia. Then there is alpha thalassemia, and that also requires transfusions, but the one that one that kills is Cole anemia, and I'm going to tell you there's hardly treatment for that. They do their best for it, but I don't know. My grandfather died from alpha thalassemia in his early thirties dot for some odd reason all of us end up with beta got none of his brothers survived from it either.
If it was your son you have a gene of thalassemia and your husband also has a gene a thalassemia so there's that side note too

I know of genetic therapy for beta thalasemmia, but it was supposed to cause the body to produce pediatric hemoglobin no adult. This must be a totally new therapy to get the stem cells to produce adult hemoglobin. Yea!

Based on what? Some movies you saw? I get the skepticism, I suppose, but let’s be honest everyone’s negative opinions regarding the technology are based off of what the creeps in Hollywood thought would make a compelling movie. This is still uncharted territory.

Wow every two weeks since 2 months old for a transfusion and he is now 9 or 10??? So it took years of bi-monthly transfusions for this to work?? I'm so glad it did but why did it take so long???
