I read some recent info about upcoming bus purchases. There is some New Flyer hydrogen electric powered buses coming. 90 new artics and Nova LFSe models.
Since Nova announced that they are leaving the US, who will build these 90 artics?? And how will the MTA receive future Novas. It will be very difficult. There are some Van Hool buses being purchased. I wonder what model.
About another 348 more 40 foot buses are coming. Apparently they want to order 243 new articulated buses. Bear in mind , all of our Nova and New Flyer artics are just over 10 years old. They can get 20 years out of these buses. It is still too early to retire them and they still run very well.
They want to order 380 electric buses. They want to order 383 CNGs. Are they quick to retire the c40LFs??. They are just over 10 years old and have plenty of life left in them. Way too early for this.
Then they want to order 250 additional Prevost X3-45s. They already have at least 500 of these. We all thought the MTA would purchase the MCI D45CRT to replace whatever motorcoaches are left to replace. And lastly they want to purchase 210 hybrids. If this is all true , the MTA is making some huge mistakes here..

I don’t know if the MTA will order more Novas after 2025, and I really hope VanHool can be a great candidate for another manufacturer as they make express buses and I hope they make Local buses too.
Regarding the retirements of the buses the MTA wants to retire them after 12 years which is why new buses are planned early so this is how this will work
380 Electric Buses: Replaces the 2011 Orion VII 3Gs, XD40s and Nova LFS, along with some C40LFs.
383 CNG Buses: Retires the majority of the C40LF fleet
348 Diesel Buses: Retires the 2014-15 XD40s and 2015-16 Novabus LFS
      210 Hybrids: Retires the 2014-15 XD40s
No mistakes are made with the MTA when it comes to ordering more buses, as they become more expensive to maintain as a bus ages, the Orion VII NGs and 3Gs are good examples of that.
As for the 380 bus order they have an option to get 950 more Electric buses and they will be used to retire the 2016-17 XN40s, 2018-19 XD40s and Nova LFSes. I hope the 2 XHE40s that the MTA gets pass the test so that we can get more Hydrogen Buses as they are also Zero Emissions as well.

@@Reformperson I believe that kingsbridge should receive the 90 XE60s next year to replace all of the first Nova artics we received in 2008. New York Power Authority has been contracted to assemble the charging units there.
Also, I am extremely disappointed that the MTA did not want to invest in Proterra. Proterra is going through some real hard struggles as they had to file for bankruptcy protection. I believe that Volvo has acquired them. There have been some complaints coming out of Canada due to their own Proterras having mechanical issues.
When Proterra first came out, we all believed that they would be the national model for electric bus transportation. But it did not turn out that way.
I really hope they can make a strong comeback under Volvo. I really love the Catalyst/BE40 model.

@@milestone_achiever4634 if anything Nova and Proterra may not be selected as much as I don’t want to see them get just new Flyer I would love the MTA to consider VanHool as they cannot order Gilligs either due to them making huge orders, and Gillig is mostly used for smaller cities and private companies.
The 90 Electric Bus Order is all for MJQ, as the plan would have all the 2018-19 LFS sent to Gun Hill and Kingsbridge. As for the 380 Electrics they are going to Depots that are getting Electrics those being MJQ, GA, CH, ENY, JAM, KB, GH, and JG. UP is also getting a small order of Electrics to retire their XD40s in the future but those 8 NYCT depots mentions above will receive Electrics.
