When I was younger I loved to play sports any sports but softball was and still is my favorite. Well we had just finished one tournament (this is peewee ball so 7-13 we also one that one 2-1) and we were waiting for our next one when my friend and I went to the bathroom we walked passed the concession stand and as soon as I walked on this one spot (under the ground) three yellow jackets flew straight into my mouth (I was talking) I immediately start spitting and slapping the air and when I finally got away my lip immediately started swelling and within ten minutes my throat started closing up and I couldn’t breathe. Now I had been stung before and never had any reaction like this. I immediately was rushed to the ER and when they looked in my mouth I had one sting on my bottom lip, one on my cheek and one near the back of my tongue. It was horrible, what I was mad about was I couldn’t finish the tournament we did end up winning that one as well.
Love how informative your videos are. It actually gave me the courage to remove a nest from my grandmothers garage a few months ago. No stings and it only took a few hours until I cleaned everything out. Nest was slightly smaller than a soccer ball. You have no idea how proud of that I am. All thanks to your videos!
That was a gigantic nest! With all those sealed white caps that colony could have continued for a bit longer without removing it. The client must be so happy she didn't have to deal with them any more. Thanks for a job well done as always.
Whoa! That initial shot of that nest is the stuff that makes up my nightmares! 😳 But it is amazing just how chilled they were. (Something I never thought I'd ever say 😆) Great video, Brett. Thanks again! 👍🏻
Amazing how well you were able to clean out that space through the small access hole. I'm sure your clients are glad they don't have to deal with a giant hole bashed in their ceiling!
It is so great that you patch and repair the ceiling and walls or floor when you are finished. That is going above and beyond. Your clients are lucky in many ways!
Love watching these videos! Now I definitely see the differences between the colonies. Really appreciated the Rhea the Rhea footage. She’s just stunning.😊
I just wanted to comment that the videos you made on the behaviors of the sepcies was really interesting. Specifically, the one about how they scavenge wood to create the envelope, I thought that was a really imformative watch.
Love watching you dealing with these horrid insects! My bedroom was in the attic at one point and before bed I would have to kill one or two wasps. Once I thought I killed one but couldn’t find it so I just went to lay down and I found the wasp after it stung me! Keep up the good work you do! ❤😊
When I subscribed to you my decision was based on your interactions with the birdies. So sweet and kind.,nothing I like more in a Man then one that is gentle with animals.
I kept flinching every time one of them flew into the camera. Kept being reminded of that time when I was a kid and was assassinated by a wasp. Got me right on the nose!😂
Thank you Sir, you have come along way from when I subscribed and I feel like I have too, the yellow jackets now no longer give me the willies:) Love the vids you make my friend and thank you again.
Wow! I came across one of your videos while doing some research on how to deal with a yellow jacket nest in one of my soffits. This was months ago, and since then I have been going down the Hornet King rabbit hole. Your videos are incredible. I am a high school science teacher (Earth and Environmental Science), so I love how educational every one of your videos is. In my AP Env Science course, we talk a lot about ecosystem services that species provide for humans, such as pollination. After discussing how wasps and hornets such as yellow jackets feed on insect larvae of other pest insects (that could potentially damage crops and such), I showed them one of your videos. We will definitely be watching more because they loved it! Thank you for all that you do, and man I wish you could come take care of nests here in NY. You rock!
I've seen colonies of Yellow Jackets last all the way into November and even December in Michigan before. One of the colonies was Eastern, the other, Southern.
