    For anyone disassembling this lens, the studs which he removes at around 2:42 have tiny markings on them to align the glass. Mark them and put them back exactly as you removed them or you will get problems with chromatic aberration and a less then optimal/sharp image.

      that's true. I also noticed that.
      even the front element has to open separately and clean properly. rest is OK

    Thanks for a great video, it has convinced me to send it in for repair instead of trying it myself :-)

    Perfect job, Jakob!
    After Disassembly does the lens need a recalibration?
    Thanks a lot!

    thanks. you did a great job. I have a 85 1.2 with AF ring moving hard (the lens is powered). I plan to send it for repair, but i'd like to know if it is something broken or it it some misalignment or something like this ... thanks anyway for the video.

    Hi Jakob, first of all, thanks for all your videos. They are very helpful.
    I have a 28-70mm 1:2.8L lens, but its taking pictures very soft loosing the sharpness. So I took it to a repair shop who told me that its the optical that is coming loose and it can't be fixed because there are no parts available. Would you please know what i can do in order to repair it properly bringing it back to a good usable condition?
    I thank you in advance for your help!

    You have to change the aperture flex cable. That's the tricky part on every lens to change this cable.

    Não tente isso em casa sem experiência. O vídeo é ótimo mas é difícil, trabalhoso e corre o risco de estragar a lente.

    Excelent ! Why did you use two clothes to clean? One dry and one wet ? Did you use a specific lens cleaner (fluid) ?

  • @profirepair
    @profirepair  11 лет назад

    Yes one is wet and the other is dry. Using normal lens clean fluid.

    Greet clip!, thanks for sharing..I got sand in my lens the other day (makes a horrible grinding noise when using the focus ring.) I recon I could follow this ,but is my lens going to focus ok when its all back together.? I thought one needed special tools to line things up.

    Alright so I just finally got this back together, yes it took me over 5 hours because I kept finding either dirty glass after thought I cleaned it or a part that wasn't in the video and found out where it went when almost all back together. Now it feels a little tighter to zoom in/out but other than that it worked good and then saw the aperture eye would get stuck closed for a few shots. Now it is back to an Err 01 message every shot. I'm sick of this lens, gonna get rid of it and get the 70-200 and a 24 prime that should be a much better replacement than this hunk of crap. Hopefully I can at least even get $400 on eBay for it.

    My lens has a stuck aperture, do you think that disassembly and cleaning would likely fix it, or would parts need replacing?

    If cleaning the lens need to change the power diaphragm ???? Or else directly cleaning the lens only ???

    Everything works fine so far. This lens dropped to sweet water. Salt water is always much worse than sweet water.

    The
    East he(it) possible to send you an objective as that this for a
    reassembly. He(it) was defused(unsettled) to change the diaphragm but
    the impossible to go back up(to raise) him(it) for fear of breaking the
    objective. If it is possible, which would be the cost? Thank you

    Hi Jakob, great video. You 've almost encouraged me to do it by my self.
    Unfortunately the rear mount to fix the lens to the camera become half loose for the second time, and if I do not support the lens properly with care it just can "tilt" a little bit.
    On the back of the lens there's 4 screws and 2 of them become loose from the place were they are supposed to fix the rear mount. In the first time I send the lens to Canon repair center and they charged me more then 345€ to fix it. If I do it for the second time it will cost me maybe another 345€. I have already tried to tighten both screws but it seems they do not grab the nut.
    I do not know if the "nut" where this screws are screwed are very fragil plastic and they passed away, because is strange that this seems to happen so easily.
    Can you advise me?

    • @JoaoPaulo-sn3pn
      @JoaoPaulo-sn3pn 8 лет назад

      +Joao Paulo OK! after my comment I have decided to go for it :) and disassemble my lens on the back side, the lens mount.
      What I found out was a total disappointment and lost of credibility of the Canon authorised repair center. What I found was that the lens part were the 4 screws of the lens mount should be screwed have been glued instead of replaced (lens part it is removed in this video at 0:45) . I am very angry and do not know exactly what to do right now.
      I do not trust that repair center any more. I supposed they were professionals and that they respected costumers that spent a lot of money in Canon. Canon can be severely discredited with authorized repair centers like these. I am amazed and angry!!!!
      I might contact Canon International, but maybe I should first take the lens to other repair center so that can give me a document saying what is wrong with the lens and that the broken part is glued so I can present this to CANON??

      +João Paulo Qual foi o centro autorizado? Descobri este fim de semana que a minha 24-105 apresenta o malfadado erro 01 e certamente queria evitar ter o mesmo problema de parafusos colados.

      How did it go Joâo??

    • @JoaoPaulo-sn3pn
      @JoaoPaulo-sn3pn 8 лет назад

      Afterwords, although they have tried to push any responsibility from them, they assumed the cost for labour hours required to replace the broken lense part.
      I have paid for the broken part as I would have to if they had replaced it the previous time.

    Hallo Jakob, danke für das video. Seit vor ca. einer Stunde steck der Zoom meines 24-105 bei ca. 70mm fest (bewegt sich nur am langen ende, von 70 -105) da ich in Kenya lebe kann ich das objektiv wohl kaum wo einschicken, brauch das Teil aber zum arbeiten und das schon sehr bald. Dein Video hat mich ermutigt es selbst zu versuchen, allerdings dachte ich immer das ein objektiv nach dem ausernandernehmen wieder kalibriert werden muss... geht das auch so? Dein Rat wäre sehr hilfreich da mir die Prozedur doch etwas angst macht und meine Arbeit sehr von dem Teil abhängt... danke nochmals!

    • @profirepair
      @profirepair  10 лет назад

      Wenn die Justierbuchsen nicht verstellt werden dann muss nicht kalibriert werden. Vielleicht musst du gar nicht soweit zerlegen und wenn doch mit einem Stift die Position markieren.

    The Err 01 code has brought me to this video. Excellent work! Unfortunately, I need to send my lens in. My RUclips page has footage of the problems with my lens, aperture gets jammed whenever the zoom is engaged with a high f stop. The lens has been hard at work for over five years...guess it's time.

    I came to your video because i have an L series 24-70 lens whose focus is soft. I took it in for an estimate (which cost me 50$ CDN) and they told me the labour alone would cost 250$ (5 hours @ 50$/hr.). Frankly, after watching this and some other videos i don't know how 5 hours could be spent on a lens. Does this seem like a dubious estimate to you?

    • @profirepair
      @profirepair  10 лет назад

      5 hours is too much. I you are very slow this will took 2 hours. If you are fast not more than 1 hour.

    Hi Jakob, I would like to ask help from you. I live in an Island in the Philippines and traveling to the main town is hard for I need to ride a lot of boats and travel by land, so cleaning it in canon centers is good but a hard option. My 70-200 F4 L has fungus on the middle glass element, I have the guts to clean it but I don't know the Do's and Don't in cleaning complex lenses like what I have. Can you help me by giving tips and advices?

    • @profirepair
      @profirepair  10 лет назад

      Which glass do you mean exactly? Which lens group? The 1st lens group is the lens where can fix some filters.

    • @JICKOGRYLLS
      @JICKOGRYLLS 10 лет назад

      the rear glass group. the one in the middle part. If you look at a 70-200, the zoom ring, beneath that, that is the glass were the fungus is. The 1st glass is clean even the back part. Only in the middle where I can see a fungus if I direct it unto the light.

    Incredible video Jacob Dral, thanks for putting on you tube for us. I found this video of a 24-105 lens which is doing exactly the same problem as my own, which started today ruclips.net/video/zfP8W-2JHTY/видео.html and I was wondering is there any replacement part that I need to change to fix this, would really appreciate your opinion if you have the time, thanks in advance. John.
