  • I've been trying different diets for 15 days for a while now - intermittent fasting, low-calorie, low-carb diets... and now it's time to try a Very Low-Calorie Diet. I've lost a decent amount of weight in the last 15 days, but was it really worth it? Let me tell you in this installment of my trials videos.

    I've been doing around 800 calories a day. Started as 173 pound 5'6" male. Probably going to remain a male when I end the diet, but hopefully lower weight.
    I'm on my 4th day right now and I feel fine. I've been watching food videos as well and while it looks appetizing, it definitely doesn't make me hungry. One weird experience is that I've dreamt of eating food every time I've slept. I honestly think it's been advantageous lol.
    In regards to my diet, i'm just consuming meal replacement shakes, fiber supplements, and a good amount of water. The shakes don't have a lot of calories but they have a lot of nutrients.
    I started doing this because I need to lose the weight quickly and I believe a 'liquid' diet might ease the symptoms of my condition.
    I would like to disclaim that I seeing a professional about my condition.
    I might write a numbers update in the future.
    Update: 2 weeks later i'm weighing in 160-163 (weight fluctuations and scale precision). I feel much better both physically and mentally. I get the occasional cravings that I can satisfy with a very light snack (in exchange for one of my meal replacement shakes). No noticeable negatives so far and I might keep doing this until as low as 150.

      Same here...I dream of food its weird but its always spoiled or in the toilet. I usually eat in the ballpark of of 850-300 calories a day. My weights dropped by only 2 points but I now find foods bad for me DISGUSTING. A scone I tried in a restaurant tasted like a bag of sugar had been dumped in it. It was a brown scone. Supposed to be healthy. It certainly didnt taste healthy. Butter tastes of Nothing. I dropped all my body fat from this diet before and this is how. Its very hard to eat enough though and retrain yourself to like the food. The key is stop eating it for a while. I'd osteoporosis in my spine and prediabetes so I'll have to restrict my diet.

    Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm obese by bmi standards and I started this about 10 days ago. So far I've lost 10 pounds (which I assume is mostly water weight) but I plan to continue this for a bit longer for the sake of my health.

      Thank you for sharing your progress. Please make sure that you take vitamin / mineral supplements and are hydrated. I don't recommend doing it at home as it might be a bit taxing on your body, but in any case - good luck!

    I think that might be unhealthy for men, but for woman as we have lower BMR, I believe it is very slow and tough to loose weight over 1k calories a day. I am on my seventh day of 500 calories a day and I feel well, I lost 4kg, at the middle of the week I started include carbs in my diet. I also eat lots of vegetables - green and tomatoes, I eat 1 egg a day and turkey breast, mozzarella nuts or cheesecake :) I wonder if some of the weight I lost is water weight?! I gained one kg when I started with carbs and little bit of sugar but I lost it again.

      @@sylviabites6621 I did what I did lost 15 kg for 5 weeks, but never again! Especially the sweeteners I was consuming, better eat sugar. I still have massive problems with my liver and kidneys :( I did not gain anything again but I have stopped dieting except the things I should not eat for my liver and they are just sunflower oil, margarine, pink tomatoes(cause in my country they inject it with something to keep them “fresh”, which makes me go to the hospital every time I eat it). And that's it but I eat everything no calories counting and I run 5+ km a day every day on a treadmill in a fitness(do not buy cheap treadmills to run at home, it's crap, a treadmill that is ok for running is over 5k $). I feel good and my organs are getting better now, my doctor says running and sweating while doing so helps a lot to my body to clean itselfs easier. So no that harsh dieting girls, except if you are so overweight that the damages would be greater.

    Thanks for your video. I’ve been following 800 calories for 4 weeks now. I noticed the cold body temp also!
    I’ve been taking a lot of electrolytes daily and that has helped me avoid feeling terrible.
    I feel better overall, so I may have some food allergies or insulin resistance that this is helping.
    I agree it is not sustainable and nutritional deficiencies are a serious concern.

    Very funny that you mention watching cooking videos and Gordan Ramsay because I experienced the exact same thing during my 3 day fast. I'd describe it as a slightly obsessive fixation on food, more psychologically based than hunger-based. This kind of diet is very impressive, kudos to you for sticking to it. What do you feel about the potential risk of slowing down your BMR from extended caloric deficits? Do you find that the risks of that are minimal? I've found the biggest thing holding me back in regards to eating at a caloric deficit for say a couple of months is the worry of that. I think that'd be a great video if it's a topic you're interested in doing!

    • @DrSamsHealth
      @DrSamsHealth  3 года назад +1

      I think that metabolism slowing is mostly a myth. We still had to survive even when there was no/reduced flow of dietary calories. Usually, some non-vital functions are affected (NEAT), to an extent. I feel that consciously becoming more active would help to counteract that (hence my walking videos).

    • @1houraday1
      @1houraday1 3 года назад

      @@DrSamsHealth Ahh makes sense. I figured most of the associated slowing of metabolism shown in people who lost weight was due to the loss of fat and lean mass, which both obviously contribute to your metabolic rate.

    Interesting video for sure! When I do a cut I have to sleep with a hoodie. Curious if you maintained 1g of protein per lb of bw? Also did you track your avg daily steps to see if you went down with your tdee?
    There’s a survival show called alone, severe calorie restriction surviving on basically protein and fat, no idea on daily calories but they lose about a lb a day. Starvation is real! But this is interesting if tailored to fat loss and not weight loss/muscle loss. Cheers!

    • @DrSamsHealth
      @DrSamsHealth  Год назад

      Thank you, John! I don't think I maintained 1 g of protein per pound of BW. It's been a while anyhow, so hard to remember. What I remember is that it was hard and the weight loss intensisty was just marginally better than on a regular low-calorie diet. My main conclusion is it's better not to cut this way :)

      @DrSamsHealth  3 года назад +3

      Hey, thank you for sharing. Sorry to hear that you got sick and that's exactly my point - very low-calorie diets shouldn't be done without medical supervision. I apologize, but I cannot give any medical advice online. But I would strongly recommend talking to your GP/Family Doctor - I am confident they would be able to help you.

    How much fat out of that 15 lbs you reckon was legit and not water weight Dr? I am metabollicaly obese at the moment, 180lbs/6ft but high body fat and no muscle mass. gonna get down to 160/150 maintain or slight bulk. Does this sound right to you?

    • @DrSamsHealth
      @DrSamsHealth  Год назад

      I would say, likely the first 5-6 pounds were water weight, then 3/4 of the remainder were fat and 1/4 - lean body mass. That's how it usually works for me.

    • @DrSamsHealth
      @DrSamsHealth  Год назад

      I agree that it has its time and place, but it's very hard to sustain and for someone who is obese a longer solution is needed anyhow, so they might as well go on just a low-calorie diet, no need to do anything extreme. Here is the link to my own solution: a.co/d/6ysUdim

    You ate a lot fewer carbs so you dropped some water weight. I began at 294, and am stuck at around 224-225 despite averaging 900 cals, no junk and exercise 3 or 4 times a week.
