Theres a lot of room for creativity in standard fam just pick a card you like and build around it. For example, the next deck i build is going to be based on tatsunari toad rider lol ✌️
You don't even understand. Since she was spoiled I have been racking my brain on how to make a commander deck with her. Everyone cares about the uncaring, this was the one I fell in love with. You are my spirit twin. This video proves it Edit: not trying to be weird lol
I’m sure she’s very good as a general if you’re doing artifacts matter stuff. I have her in Gix with a low curve and a lot of sac fodder. Turning bad cards into powerstones+ getting a draw to use Gix to play 7+ cards off the top of your opponent’s library on turn 5 is proving to be very strong and enjoyable, considering I usually play decks that are high power/turn 4/5 combo kills. I’d say pure ashnod is best as aristocrats with board control or stax. You can either use the powerstones as sac fodder, to cast those nasty artifacts or activate abilities. Ashnod seems right at home with the Nekron cards too, almost to the point where I wouldn’t be surprised if she was initially designed for that set and just didn’t make it in. 1 mana is just crazy for a general if you want to play aggressively, and you can usually get a swing in unblocked very quickly, there are great floating abilities on 2 drops and getting a thing+ mana on turn 2 with an aggressive curve, you will find yourself reaching critical mass very quickly. She also makes a great value engine for a slower grinder game and her last ability is relevant in such cases.
@@DrewskiTheLegend the thing I want is to find the biggest most splashy activated abilities that would normally be a little to expensive but are very powerful to power out early. Gix is a great example. But I know there are more that I'm missing. I like planar bridge in the deck. But I know there are more that are gonna be great. I just haven't thought of them yet
Love this. It’s the card I’ve been wanting to build around the most but I haven’t had time to sit down and do so. Having a video I can play in the background while I do other work and can absorb the information from is great.
I *LOVE* theory, it is my absolute favorite part of magic. I love these kinds of videos.... I don't have any IRL people to talk magic with, so this is the next best thing!
Might I recommend a couple of commander cards? First is Hex Parasite; as a 1 mana artifact creature he is almost free, and the activated ability peels +1 counters to juice his damage. Its great utility or a cheap artifact body. Second is Kuldotha Forgemaster; its a 5 mana artifact creature that sacrifices 3 artifacts to tutor any artifact and put it onto the battlefield. sacrifice the tokens to slam a blightsteel colossus ahead of schedule or pull a clutch meteor golem? Yes please. Im excited because the EDH page is not super worked out yet so theres plenty of room for improvement at this moment. her page doesnt even have Nettlecyst
Ooh I like your new frames, keep it real stud I've been playing a little Ashnod in a black aggro deck in explorer with Jadar and Heraldic Banner with fleshgorger as a payoff for the tokens. Jadar spawning 3/2s and 4/2s helps make a lot of use out of the decay zombies. Pretty fun deck even if it is a little on the fair side.
The only flaw I see in your assessment is that Ashnod has to attack in order to sac a creature for a powerstoner. I dont see this happening more than once usually since the opponent can simply block her.
Nice video, the favourite part of Ashnod in t2 is that it's the only good legend for 1 manas with Jodah. So you can cast a 2 drop(in Brawl or T2) and automatically have Ashnod that will be a big deathtouch creature just for one mana! I think you ggive me the motivation to try to create an Ashnod deck in t2(but i don't want to throw away lot of wildcards for nothing :s)
I have been messing around with this so far and I found a card, Than Vigil, where whenever a card leaves the graveyard on your turn, a creature gets +1/+1... Maybe useful for the graveyard sac and also if you are bringing back tenacious underdog and razor slash.
I kid you not I was going on a rant at 1am last night trying to convince my best friend that ashnod is a card with a lot of text and choc full of potential but I just didn’t know how to build her properly. But what do you know my main man man Dev was ready for us this morning!
For a few years, Wotc has kept a "1 black mana 2/1 creature that has recursion and etb tapped" in standard, and they are great with ashnod. Bloodsoaked champion, dread wanderer, and good ol' gutterbones off the top of my head. Reassembling skeleton is also nice.
Bereaved Survivor is a decent option in that it flips when you sac(edit: or just plain dies) something and then on attack lets you return cmc 2 or less to the battlefield so you can get your other sac fodder(or even Ashnod herself) back. Edit 2: Oni-Cult Anvil
Also Platoon Dispenser, stones can cast it, and pay the activation cost to make more soldiers to sac and pay the unearth to bring it back from the yard...
Also desecrated tomb is great with the stable of recursive creatures (I e. Gutterbones) as well as her activated ability. But also I don't think ebon initiate is bottom of the barrel. It's not as good as inspiring statuary in most cases. But in some it's better. Also cabal coffers activations are nice with power stones cause it allows you to literally double your swamp output. I like this deck a lot and will be fine tuning it for a long time
Ashnod, Jadar, Lagomos create good synergy for Legends, humans, aristocrats, they work very well with a ratadabrik, I highly recommend trying it out, obviously they play well with Elis so it might be work a try
I’m trying to “flesh” out a black/artifact Phyrexian sacrifice deck built around Ashnod and Portal to Phyrexia. Very excited to see what fun stuff you’ve come up with here.
Here is one that you can try out. It is a White/Black, artifact re-animator that you could put her in. It work decent and is fun for a few game. It even makes use of Karn. Deck 4 Spirit-Sister's Call (NEO) 237 2 Repair and Recharge (BRO) 24 4 Platoon Dispenser (BRO) 36 4 Steel Seraph (BRO) 38 4 Yotian Frontliner (BRO) 42 4 Patchwork Automaton (NEO) 254 3 Network Terminal (NEO) 251 4 Sunblade Samurai (NEO) 39 1 The Celestus (MID) 252 2 Portal to Phyrexia (BRO) 240 2 Cityscape Leveler (BRO) 233 4 Lay Down Arms (BRO) 11 2 Karn, Living Legacy (DMU) 1 2 Obscura Storefront (SNC) 252 2 Swamp (KLR) 293 4 Shattered Sanctum (VOW) 264 2 Caves of Koilos (DMU) 244 2 Scoured Barrens (M21) 250 8 Plains (DMU) 264
i instantly made a bastion of remembrance deck for explorer/historic shenanigans on set drop. add reanimation and cheap dump creatures like scorpion boy from ikoria and the usual suspects and watch it go.
Cards like this and players like Dev who scour scryfall to find synergies are what I love about this game. The fact that they generally get crushed by the I win button cards of fire/commander design is what I hate.
I listened to the whole sales pitch and I'm not buying it. I appreciate the mention of so many different cards - helps to learn what's out there - but I still don't think Ashnod is good: may only sack if Ash attack power stones come in tapped too easy to remove There are so many better ways to sacrifice things and get mana.

a friend made the commander deck with some 2 drops that are good when they die or can come back and goes aristocrats from there

I love the concept of this video. Deep dive of possibilities into cool cards. Great video.
Love the content idea! Picking fun cards and doing dives on them seems like a great idea.

Maybe run 4x cut down. I probably don't mind trading her for anything too big for cut down anyway.
Awesome card. Didn't think about it and I searched for something new to play in standard. Went of and made a lovely mono B Deck. Thanks!

One of these videos for every new set coming out gets a thumbs up from me.
It still is wild that she is literally just 1 mana.
What would it mean to be figuratively 1 mana?

loved the style of this video
Dig this style of video, Devster!
Dev, are you saying that Elas...
...compleats you?
*rim shot*
My takeaways from this video: 1. Dev likes bangs (as he should) 2. Ashnod is dope and I'm building an aristocrats deck tonight
Just stopping in the comments to say hi dev
Ironically Dev, it was Ashnod's Altar+Breeding Pit+Initiates+Drain Life that made me fall for Ms She Bangs, She Bangs herself.
i instantly made a bastion of remembrance deck for explorer/historic shenanigans on set drop. add reanimation and cheap dump creatures like scorpion boy from ikoria and the usual suspects and watch it go.

Sacrifice dennick, cast it for disturb, investigate every time you sacrifice going forward, double artifacts now!!
I kinda needed 100 *and* one my guy!
Did I miss the Oni-Cult Anvil section?
Change that caption dev
Dev
Is the fucking man
I like the card. Im just not sure powerstone creation is a good enough payoff to build around in standard, let alone older formats
This was fun.
Thank you!
How did I miss this video
Love it do it again pls!!
Could you see Ashnod as a 1-of in a Rakdos Sacrifice deck in Explorer?
That's awesome.
Crush it again with this video!! 🔥🔥🔥🎉🎉🎉
The content module is strong
Lol busybangs I love it
It's pretty wild how cheap this card is going for.
LOL Busy Bangs!!
I like this! Letting you know in the comments
Lunarch Veteran sacrifice get a stone, cast it again, gain one life every time you sac a creature going forward
Dev can I find your music anywhere online? I like it slot
Fun to sacrifice all the creatures with disturb than cast them from your graveyard and sacrifice them again...
Ashnod🥰 will go well in my mean Meren🖤💚deck
Did anyone mention Mox Amber enabler?
Nice
I read that as A shnod
Ashnod!?! More like SplAshnod! ....ill see myself out....
I listened to the whole sales pitch and I'm not buying it.
I appreciate the mention of so many different cards - helps to learn what's out there - but I still don't think Ashnod is good:
may only sack if Ash attack
power stones come in tapped
too easy to remove
There are so many better ways to sacrifice things and get mana.
Phyrexian alter, or ashnods alter?...
No.
The wording on the powerstone token doesn't look to me to be used for anything other than casting artifact spells.
It only refers to casting spells. Says nothing about activating abilities. Only says you can't cast non artifact spells
Kerning on title card was perfectly fine, but for some reason I read it as 100 things you could do with a shnod, like Dev had turned into Dr. Seuss (minus the racism).
I like the format.
I don't like the card.
I don't like the hair.... but to each their own.
So you're telling me you're polyam ? Damn I love me some representation ! /s
