We should celebrate tom waits more
Waits is a musical genius
Say what you will about Mike Douglas, he didn't shy away from inviting guests whose demeanors clashed with his working-clean nightclub crooner persona. (The John and Yoko week case in point.) And love the interplay with Marvin Hamlisch (who could have been kinder) and Glenda Jackson. I interviewed Tom not too long before this btw and he was tremendously articulate.
TW, greatest American poet!
Hi Tom!! On his live, Method Man just said this is his favorite song right now. Yes!!! It’s a great song!!💜💜💜
Now remember how high Method is half the time 😅
Oh man haha that's cool. Love Wu-Tang. Thanks for that 😅
Cheers tom

Daytime talk shows ain't what they used to be.
Mike Douglas had so many wonderful musical guests.
Library of Congress Hall of Fame. Tom Waits.
He's soo shy in these early interviews, it's kinda sweet: He's just in it for the music and finds all this 'media stuff' awkward.
- Feels like it's from a completely different social era
(now that the entire Western world is filled with social-media attention whores, all jumping around trying to be noticed by total strangers... )
he's not shy, he's coked up
