Can also be utilized as extreme exterminatus weapon to delete planets with out real counter. Imagine if instead of psykers, we used librarians in these. Specifically iron hands.
They'd last longer because they train their minds to perfection for stuff like this, they are literally cyborg space marines so they'd interface better with the machine spirit and the titan's chassis, and they would boost the power immensely.
I'd suggest taking one from the templars of iron, the most mentally stable of the iron hands successor chapters.

You could almost hear the pain in his voice as The Chronicler signed off. Having read such a horrible atrocity committed by the Emperor, a device that exploits human suffering and of course acts as the worst old tech the Imperium has or had...you can hear his faith shattering. Too bad he doesn’t know what waits for him on the other side, what horrors that beast must fight to keep him safe.
Aside from that, this was actually really awesome and wonderful to hear about this faction I didn’t know existed. I mean I know they are new, but it was nice to learn about them. Thanks again and keep up the awesome work!

Another time shortly thereafter, somebody pointed out the connection between Konrad Curze and The Emperor, that Konrad would very much like to have one of these at his disposal.

A weapon borne of humanities brilliance and depravity. Fueling itself with the blazing stars of warp-fire present in every human psyker. To combat the enemies of man directly with the mightiest souls of mankind. Our very nature channeled into pure obliterative energies. Such a thing could only have come to pass by the foulest and noblest intentions. Truly the Emperor was but a man, prone to the folly and hubris of all men, to think that this weapon was anything but an anethema. Better we should have all been destroyed than to permit such a horror to come to be. The only other alternative is unthinkable, to think such a weapon was necessary fills this Inquisitor with dread unimaginable. If this weapon was needed, our enemies must have been powerful beyond mortal ken. If this is the case, we are surely damned to fall to them. But humanity is ultimately characterized by fruitless struggle. Vainglorious final stands against annihilation mark our very existence from the holy cradle of Terra, to the darkest far-flung stretches of the galaxy. Humanity survives, by any means necessary in this dark epoch. Ultimately all stars shall burn out, and matter will one day cease to capably sustain life. But until that blasted day we endure. So I must humbly request all knowledge you have on the subject, vaunted Remembrancer. These weapons must be turned on our foes once again, they must be recreated to shield us in this darkest hour. Your self-sacrificing search for knowledge can and must be bent towards saving us all. I know we demand much from you, as we have demanded countless billions to sacrifice in ages past. But your work must continue, damn the cost, damn the sacrifice, damn its ultimate necessity. Brave scholar, continue your glorious crusade of discovery, the Emperor and his humblest servant stand with you. Ave Imperator. Gloria in excelsis Terra.

It's interesting that our dear chronicler acknowledges, however briefly, that the Emperor created these and then does his level best to forget that. For him, the cognitive dissonance between his reverence and the reality of that reverence's object is simply too great. He keeps talking about how "we" created this abomination, that this shows how "we" are evil and that "we" were wrong to create this. "We" didn't create this. The Emperor did. It was the Emperor, and he alone, that is responsible for this thing that I deem fit competition with the Daemonculaba for worst thing in 40k.

if he built it in anticipation for a very grand or specific threat, then sure, maybe, but if he is just making greater guns, just to have them. then no. this was too fucked up.

I'm loving your series on Titan Legios, but these two chapters on the Ordo Sinister are simply top notch. The ambiance and immersion you've achieved with your narration is amazing, I could only share the horror in silence. You may have even convinced me to have one of those abominations in my Adeptus Titanicus force... Now that I know more about them, I can't help but notice how close these things are to some Aeldari technologies, such as wraithbone-constructs and distortion cannons. Makes me wonder how things could've been for the Imperium if the Horus Heresy never happened, and humans got access to the Webway...

The redacted location of the battle with the daemons, the way the Psi-Titans seems to be made to directly counter daemons and Eldar, and the personal secrecy the Emperor kept the whole thing under makes me think this might have been part of the larger Webway Project. The Imperial Webway did not shielding from the warp that the original Webway had, so a powerful response and deterrent in case of Daemonic invasion would be necessary. Also of course the forces of Craftworld, Harlequin, and Drukhari Aeldari would contest Imperial conquest into the Webway. The Psi-Titans could defeat both these threats. In fact it seems likely to me that the titan Borealis might have fell fighting a greater Daemon on Holy Terra thus the need for secrecy.

Everyone's just assuming these things fired concentrated beams of thought-energy from tortured psykers, but in thinking through all this, I have a deeper theory...
So if using psykana fueled by multiple psykers on opposite ends of the emotional spectrum can create a balanced resonance in its output, resulting in pure psychic essence rather than an energy leaning toward any specific emotion... wielded by a psychic blank, whose nullification properties are amplified through the titan's void shielding by impossibly arcane devices... is it possible that, rather than the engine requiring a blank simply to withstand piloting the machine in the presence of multiple tortured psykers, that the weapon somehow mixes those psychic screams WITH the effects of the pilot's null aura? Considering that the nature of the Warp is a negative impression of reality and can thus rewrite reality at will when exerted, as psykers do to manifest their powers, could it be that the beams projected by the "Left Hand of Darkness" are somehow a resonating reaction whereby the target is flooded by the purest Warp essence while also being exposed to the purest nullification force running counter to it, simultaneously overwriting and erasing the nature of reality to cancel out existence itself... such a thing would simply remove anything in its path, no matter whether its target was corporeal, ethereal or conceptual... possibly even being capable of erasing daemons and other Warp entities permanently due to the existential level of their attacks...
...now THAT is a horrifying concept imo, moreso than simply using the screams of tortured psykers as projectiles... the Emperor figured out how to focus the rarest and most powerful forces of creation into a "reality glitch" that simply deleted whatever was exposed to it, and then figured out how to fire it from a gun... and those were just the prototypes... woe betide the entire galaxy if the Emperor had finished his project...

this topic raises the age old question, Does the cause justify the means, the Reasons justify the means, or do we draw a line in concrete or sand which we should not cross, and in the case of the latter, indeed a line in the sand, or one engraved in stone, and how pressed we should be to cross that line if at all,

I'm not going to lie, this one... scared me, in a way that a "proper" Hollywood horror movie never could these days. Knowing the power source of the Sinistramanus Tenebrae, that it feeds on the anguish and pain of the human psykers bound to the machine as their incarceration forces them into close proximity to their very nightmare, a blank, is awful. However, what I find even worse is that, as described, the Sinistramanus Tenebrae absorbs ambient noise. Assuming this then means the weapon system operates in complete silence, I couldn't imagine being one of the psykers damned to power this vendor of death. Any wail you may eek out, any scream, any form of auditory protest, rendered to less than a whisper. It evokes the same terror I'd feel from sleep paralysis episodes as a kid.
All in all, excellent work Oculus, as someone who got into 40k relatively late, I'm happy for the existence of chroniclers such as yourself!

Well they're referred to as Psi-Titans because they're built around a ton of psykana archaeotech and fueled by alpha-level psykers... but my theory is that they used a reaction between the psykers' ability to rewrite reality and the nulls' ability to delete a psyker's reality to create a resonating weapon that essentially erased existence itself, and the aura of fear around them was just the result of that resonance emanating from within the arcane devices they carried

I think it’s necessary not to ask why the Emperor considered them necessary, and ask instead, what was their intended target? Seeing as there was potential for a fairly large number of these titans, one must then ask specifically, what their target was, my theory is, these things were made specifically to complement some as of yet undiscovered or even uncreated weapons, and regiments of Astartes and regular troops, a..army made all for a specific goal, all armed for a enemy that will not go easy into the night by regular means, I believe that the Emperor intended these titans to be a tip of a spear against the Chaos Gods themselves, I can’t say for sure that’s what the purpose was nor will we ever know, but the idea that someway, somehow there was plans to build a special army meant specifically to kill a chaos god itself, intrigues me.

What if. We put a librarian from the iron hands in them instead of a regular psyker. That way, more psykers for the golden throne, the psyker will last longer, be more potent, and will also interface better with the right modifications, and the librarian will be able to survive. Especially an iron hands librarian, as they train their minds to perfection, will interface better with the machine spirit, and, being a cyborg space marine, would survive a lot more physical, mental and spiritual abuse that would be taken by the form.
