    Suzuki kindly invited me to the UK press launch of their brand new sports touring motorcycle, the GSX-S 1000 GT in the Highlands of Scotland. So join me as we take this exciting new entry in the category for the first ride review!
    In my excitement I neglected to mention 2 important touring related features, the bike has a 19 litre fuel tank with an estimated range of approximately 200 miles and it comes with cruise control as standard.
    Thanks to Suzuki UK for making this video possible.

      Hello Dan, I was subscribed to you a long time ago..I can't wait for more S1000 GT stuff..actually, you were seemingly lucky to be the first to ride the bike and post on YT. I think that's a good sign that Suzuki UK value your opinion...it does point to the fact that you and your contemporaries do really influence new bike sales....and that is an amazing fact..

    • @Englishbikerdan

      @@markgillett1472 Hey Mark, thanks for being a long term supporter of my channel, it is very much appreciated. Not sure I influence sales all that much but I just try to give an honest review from an average biker, that seems to be something people want. Ride safe and all the best! Dan

      @@Englishbikerdan Hi Dan, I disagree...I think Suzuki DO think you influence sales...certainly influence opinion...and Kawasaki will eventually wake up, and recognise that you do have an effect on opinion, and ultimately sales too. I hope that soon, you will be able to go to BMW, KTM, Ducati, and whomever you want to try bikes from, and they will be happy to do so. I do think this will happen, if you continue your style of YT content. Just continue to do what you do...and you might be surprised what might happen. I'm sure you are aware that your influence is 'free advertising' for them...and your viewers are the guys that actually buy bikes. Don't underestimate how important what your content does....or overestimate either, ha ha :)

    Suzuki gets a lot of shit these days for not innovating but this bike is proof positive that their formula of steadily improving what has already been successful is can be a winning strategy. This bike looks appears to be a stunning value. I hope it sells well.

    • @DoctorStrange01
      @DoctorStrange01 2 года назад +1

      I'd love a true "current gen" Suzuki naked. The GSX-S750 is really old and it's discontinued already. I remember reading something a few months ago about Suzuki having plans to refresh and modernize their bikes in the future. I hope this means a fresh new naked to compete with bikes like Tuono 660, CB650, or even the MT-07.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  2 года назад +2

      Rumours abound of a new Suzuki 650 class naked using a parallel twin.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 2 года назад +1

      They had a turbocharged concept come and go, called the Recursion. It was a 588cc parallel twin intercooled turbo, on a sports naked 1/4 fairing bike. Really wish they'd have put it out. But I suppose something along the lines of cost and sales numbers justifying a force induction bike in the sub-600cc range putting out the power of a 800-900cc bike, probably didn't make sense ultimately.
      Yes, the 645cc V-twin is probably going to get retired soon and replaced with a 690-ish or 700cc parallel twin (most likely a 270° crank in keeping with their v-twin sound/feel heritage) to compete with the excellent MT-07 that stole the show. Parallel twins are less expensive to manufacture, package, less weight, less complex fuel and cooling and exhaust systems. With no less than 4 firing order configurations that I know of, they can be made to feel and sound just about anything they want as well.

    • @douglasalexander4348
      @douglasalexander4348 2 года назад

      Copying something Kawasaki did over 10 years ago? Surely that’s proof positive Suzuki ARE shit at innovation. Same price as the SX, so how is it stunning value ? Nice to have a choice though between green and blue. Oh hold on, Kawasaki have already made one in this blue…..

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 2 года назад +3

      @@douglasalexander4348 You don't HAVE to like Suzuki.
      Surely you've seen an example of a manufacturer that has been making something for years and might be a market leader in that particular product. Then along comes someone else and knocks them off their pedestal with the first swing. Happens often. If you can get past the brand bias, you might see the value of something. From experts motojournalists who've been in the bizz for decades and have ridden everything, micro-analyzed everything, seen and experienced it all, they are saying that the S1000GT is probably one of the best products Suzuki has put out in recent decades. Yes they don't put out a lot, but they put out. The tech is there, the aero is there, the features are there, the purpose of the bike is there, the horsepower is there, the lower weight is there, the durability and proven powerplant is there. Nothing to whine about.

    Not too long ago, I was worried about the whole sport touring segment disappearing, and it is my preferred class of motorcycle. Great video and we appreciate the honesty. Is there a plan to do a head to head comparison of the Tracer 9, 1000sx, and 1000GT models? I would be very interested to see how the bikes actually fair against one another.
    Also, some talking points I rarely see on any bikes in this segment are:
    1. Spine compression (how the bike translates road conditions to your body)
    2. Pillion perspectives on comfort, gab handle location/design, seat size, getting on/off bike, etc.
    3. How the bike handles in 90 degrees (F) and above in city and on highway and what is the experience like (I live in Texas, its hot as hell here 9 months of the year)
    4. Bike comfort and usability for larger riders (height and weight)
    5. What is the best bike in the segment (this is a bit of a faux pas for some, but if you were going to buy 1 bike to do everything, what would that be?)

Suzuki have challenged my thoughts that Honda are No 1 for me...I can't wait to see this in my local dealership..in the Philippines...so it may be 6 months or more before I can even see this bike in person. I don't see many differences between this and the naked S1000..although there may be. Either one would suit me!! Thanks Dan...I connect with your style of review...us consumers usually do not get a chance to try all the bikes in a range before we buy, so we rely on opinions of trusted reviewers to help us make a decision. You are one of my trusted reviewers, who have the power to change where I splash my cash.

    Brilliant video! Incredibly informative. Bike hasn't arrived in my part of the US but a deposit is down and waiting for arrival date.
    I can't imagine there would be an issue that would put me off from getting it as it checks literally every single box on my list for both day rides and long-range touring.
    Can't wait for Spring!!
    Question: Looks like a Suzuki-branded tank lock bag up front. I have looked everywhere on line and can't find it.
    Any suggestions?

    Good looking bike, possibly my next machine in a couple of years time…
    For me though a “GT Bike” should come standard with panniers, heated grips and a centre stand, which is an absolute must on any chain driven touring bike!
    Hopefully this will be addressed in future updates.
    But for now, my new Tracer
    9-GT is the better more equipped machine - having all these things
    (and more) as standard!

      OR at least back the value out of the MSRP when compared to main completion (Tracer9 GT) ....for essentially the same MSRP Yamaha is giving you things that Suzuki want to upsell you into....I'm getting the Yamaha....you blew it again Suzuki

    This bike is in direct competition with my current bike, ninja1000sx touring. I sold my FJR 1300 and came over to something more sporty, it does the same job. Not much to criticise on the Suzuki but I hate the “one eyed look” with the headlights. Think Suzuki should’ve added an adjustable screen though. I’ll certainly consider one when I change 👍. Good, informative video.

    Great review, could you describe a littler more about the amount and type of vibration it has at different rpm's ?
    I've had 2 FJRs (5-speed and 6-speed) and couldn't get used to the 3500-4500 buzz zone. Does it vibrate more or less ? Thanks very much. I'm ready to put a deposit on one.

    The Suzuki does seem sportier than the Ninja 1000SX, which I have test ridden along with the Ninja H2 SX SE+. It is lighter with more horsepower than the 1000SX, just look at the frame and swingarm. It's half the cost of the 2022 H2 SX SE. The 2019 H2 SX SE+ I rode seemed top heavy. Both Ninjas are more luxurious than this Suzuki. The 2022 H2 SX SE has the same type of dash as this Suzuki plus heated grips, IMUs, radar sensors for collision warning and blind spot monitor, tire pressure meter, cornering LEDs, Bluetooth key fob, supercharger with 200 hp, and a centerstand, but at double the price of this Suzuki. It's a shame US Suzuki don't give test rides on this model.

      @@Englishbikerdan That Triton blue color is nice also, but unfortunately that color is not offered in the USA. Only the other two colors of dark blue with black wheels and all black are offered here. Suzuki does offer heated grips as an option, but it would be cheaper to get Oxford heated grips.

    I've been looking for a sport tourer but being a Kawasaki fan I was looking at the 1000 SX. And to be honest the only thing I don't like about the Kawasaki is the available color options now I know I'm not going to buy a bike just because of the available color options but that's what actually brought me to look at the Suzuki, that being said Kawasaki's color options broadened my horizons you might say. A test ride of each will tell the tale!

    Great to see another vid! Here's a question for you. You bought a triumph tiger 850 (if I remember correctly) with a view to doing some more touring, with a pillion, and a seat that you can actually sit in for more than 30 minutes. If this bike had been around, would it have tempted you over the tiger sport, even though it's a couple £k more.

    People always saying "Suzuki needs to update their bikes". Meanwhile they are taking non stop MotoAmerica podiums against bikes that cost 2x what the GSXR1000 does.
    Fireblade
    ZX10R
    DUCATI
    R1M
    All of these cost more, yet the Suzuki stands toe to toe unflinching. If it ain't broke- slowly improve it.

    Good opening explanation of the headlight set-up and how it works. First time anyone has done that.I like the way you have set up the phone/tank bag with cable into UHF socket. I would opt for the higher touring screen and a top-box. I don't have much use for panniers these days. Tend to get in the way when filtering through traffic. I've fitted a 56 litre Givi top box which I find indispensable for holding helmet,shopping,bike lock, tubeless puncture kit, wet weather pants.Screen looks peachy. Heated grips and heated seat available / optional.
    Main competition from my viewpoint is the Tracer 9GT. Your thoughts on how they compare?

      Thanks Andrew. I've not tried any recent Yamaha's as I've had no interest from dealers or Yamaha UK in loaning me bikes for review. Possibly due to my criticism after a bad experience with my MT07.

    Looks the business and certainly appeals. I’ve heard there is no centre stand which seems like an omission. And what does the bike look like with those panniers on and the so called brackets that need purchasing. I have a Tracer 900 GT and that’s superb as a tourer / fun in the twisties. But it has no hugger and there are no aftermarket ones either so the backend of the bike when it’s wet looks like a dirt bike. I wonder what the Suzuki looked like after your trip in the rain. Can’t wait to see the bike in the flesh and see what the ergonomics are like to see if it’s a future buy. Thanks for the video.

      £600 seems an unusually low premium for the fully-faired model, given that it's got the much better TFT display as well. Not unusal to have a £600 + gap between naked & faired in the 650 market - see Triumph Tiger Sport 660 / Trident 660 & Honda CBR650 vs CBR650R. The GT strikes me as good value, relatively speaking, if you're shopping in this kind of price segment

    I'll be testing one soon, but no remote pre-load adjust on the rear is a miss for a touring bike when the loaded weight can vary significantly (even though Suzuki don't recommend more than 5kg in each pannier!)
