I think the reason that Billy Martin isn't in the Hall of Fame as a manager is because even though he took lousy teams and turned them into contenders, he couldn't get along with the owners and was fired before the teams won the World Series. The fact that he got into fights (mostly when he was drunk) didn't help either. Even with the Yankees, he only won one World Series as manager. If Billy Martin had gotten along with the owners (especially George Steinbrenner) and had stayed out of trouble like Joe Torre was able to, Billy Martin, like Joe Torre, would be in the Hall of Fame.
