This is a cover song from 1972. Harold and the Blue Notes, featuring Teddy Pendergast. Simply Red is scheduled to perform at OVO Arena Wembley in London on Saturday, October 11, 2025 as part of their 40th Anniversary Tour:
Here's my list of best Simply Red songs that you haven't heard yet: - Something Got Me Started - The Right Thing (original version) - A New Flame - It's Only Love - For Your Babies - Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye - Jericho - Thrill Me
wow, you're reacting to his song that I was actually going to sponsor, so Thank you for saving me the money so I can sponsor another song in the future, when I was a DJ, this song was one of my most popular requests, Thank you NicknLex for your great reaction, now I can focus on a different song request in the future, believe me, I have quite a few really good songs for you guys to react to.
First of all ,this could be their best album so you have to listen to the full album for sure. And 3 tracks I suggest: You've got it Turn it up Enough (maybe their best song ever)
This song takes me back to when I was ten years old. Remember this was on heavy rotation on the f.m. radio.. love his voice!! Fun to watch you both react to this!!
Great reaction of a great cover of a great song by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes which you should definitely react to as well. Just one correction you have listened to another song of this album. Nick listened to the song Enough in a marathon. Lex if you haven’t heard Enough yet 😱😱😱😱 You’ve got to hear it ASAP It’s got a killer bass line. Glad you got this knocked out. ❤️❤️
There’s another version of this song by Teddy Pendergrass but I don’t know which came out first of Simply Red or Teddy… Maybe you should check it out too…
Great reaction. My mum and dad were mad about Simply Red and saw them many many times,, as was I. We actually played this song at my dad's funeral as he used to sing to my mum everytime "he came home a little late at night, cos we only act like children when we argue, fuss & fight" (a line in the song) and had a bit too many so it would always make her forgive him quicker than she usually would. We live where Mick lived and grew up and I actually worked with one of his cousins (on his mum's side so obviously she didn't see him mum because his mum abandoned him). One question though why don't you ever do/watch the live versions as Mick is so much better when watching/being live? Stay safe from Manchester UK (around the corner from where Mick grew up with his dad) !!!! PS........ I do love your channel and can see how much music is part of your life, I just wished you would watch/do live versions. If you're interested I attach a link of when he performed in his loved home town and at his beloved Old Trafford (Manchester United Football Team famously known as the "Reds" to which Mick was a "Simply Red" and had been since he was 8 years old) in 1996 which WILL BLOW YOUR MIND, he does all the hits !!! ruclips.net/video/_DcZZfOhOp4/видео.html
Harold Melville and the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass on lead, is my all-time favorite jam. ❣️ No offense to Simply Red, beautiful cover. but it's my fav, so. 🤷♀️
I think you guys would enjoy some soulful music with a kickass bass line, please react to Barry White - Never Never Gonna Give Ya Up, the longer version ofcourse.. #nicknlexrequest
This is originally done by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes with the legendary Teddy Pendergrass on lead vocals. No offense, but the original blows this version out of the water!
Simply Red Simply great but! For this song I liked Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass..hard to beat that deeper voice...but Simply Red does a good cover..
Simply Red brought a lot of romance back to popular music. Saw them at a terrible venue in London that was popular for a while, forgotten which one, but Simply Red/Mick cannot be defeated by a venue.
Equally as good, if not better than the original by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. I only have the Stars CD, so my knowledge is limited, but try Something Got Me Started, the opening track from the album and even the last track, Wonderland. For Your Babies is a great track too.
I think the title of this song would've been a lot funnier if they'd called it "If You Don't Blow Me By Now." I don't know why big-time musical artists don't notice stuff like that if I do.
This version is beautiful, on its own. I can appreciate it for what it is. If we must compare, though, it’s gotta be Teddy Pendergrass with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes EVERY SINGLE TIME.

What a voice enough said ❤
Yeah! Another great song from Gamble and Huff. Used to listen a lot to this one when it came out.
First of all ,this could be their best album so you have to listen to the full album for sure. And 3 tracks I suggest:
You've got it
Turn it up
Enough (maybe their best song ever)
Herald Melvin and The Blue Notes are fantastic.
"Enough" the final track on the album, you will love it just for the base alone!
Nick did enough in a marathon a while back. I’m not sure if Alexia has heard it yet or not.
This song takes me back to when I was ten years old. Remember this was on heavy rotation on the f.m. radio.. love his voice!! Fun to watch you both react to this!!
I’ll take the Blue Notes version, thank you.
Hit the original from Harold, it’s a great recording and this is a masterful cover!
Great stuff, I was looking forward to you hearing this track. And yup, the voice seems alien to the appearance. Never judge a book etc etc
Mick is so effing awesome. ❤❤❤
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes had some awesome songs. Their definitely worth checking out.
Last dance at a high school dance........... :)

A New Flame, please, guys!
I had to write down the drum notes in 1989 for me, to play it live with the band I'd play that time. A wonderfull song. 😊
There’s another version of this song by Teddy Pendergrass but I don’t know which came out first of Simply Red or Teddy… Maybe you should check it out too…
Still evokes powerful emotions after all these years. Mick also really knows how leave spaces to raise the whole song. ThX guys 👍🍁
Thanks to Teddy Pendergrass.......🤣
Listen to anything off of their first album. It's the best one if you ask me.
(oops... just noticed you guys already did that, gonna check it out)
Hermosa canción. Para bailar lento

Agrees 100% Simply Red offers nothing new but a different voice. Teddy was much better.
Hi! Annie Lennox does an amazing cover too! Enjoy! ✌🏻🇨🇦✌🏻
Simply Red Simply great but! For this song I liked Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass..hard to beat that deeper voice...but Simply Red does a good cover..
you should listen to for your babies another classic by them.
My wedding first dance song.
Great tune!
Mick Hucknall vs. Teddy Pendergrass. The unstoppable force vs the immovable object?
It's one of my favs❤
Simply Red brought a lot of romance back to popular music. Saw them at a terrible venue in London that was popular for a while, forgotten which one, but Simply Red/Mick cannot be defeated by a venue.
As already mentioned, this is a cover of Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes. It strongly urge you to listen to the original.
Equally as good, if not better than the original by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes.

Definitely react to the original....please!
O Trem Azul - Clube da Esquina 🇧🇷
The David Brent version is the most authentic.
You should check out sunrise by them
its on the channel! 😁
Of course I know this song, but reading the comments, I am not sure if I know the original or this cover....
What no video?

Yes, I love the voice of Teddy Pendergrass.
This version is beautiful, on its own. I can appreciate it for what it is. If we must compare, though, it’s gotta be Teddy Pendergrass with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes EVERY SINGLE TIME.
@@matzabeantotally agree. I do like SR’s version. But the one by HM& The BN, is just pure awesomeness. (And it’s longer).
Exactly , I was in the army when this came out t.
100% agree.
I like Simply Red, but this can't hold a candle to Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.
If I can suggest you a Simply Red (underrated) song: Made made the gun
You Make Me Feel Brand New live version by Simply Red next please. 😊 ruclips.net/video/hlW1ac81fFY/видео.htmlsi=Gixp8wR6xe9seoKI
Just amazing that he can sing both parts, not many have the vocal range to pull that off.
Hadn't heard this track before. Nothing personal, but not my cup of tea. Thanks for sharing though!!
The volume on the snare is far too loud. Poor mixing in the studio.
