*FFXIV Spoilers* Illberd's Final Decree & Papalymo's Sacrifice

- With less than a month until Stormblood I wanted to post my favorite scene from the final story content before the expansion. I know it is months after but I noticed that not many posts containing these specific events and only these events exist so I took the liberty to do it myself. Sigh so tired of great characters biting it in this game.

You are most welcome. I felt like the writing in this scene was especially inspired, especially Illberd's.
Thank you for this.. Even though I frequently use the Unending Journey journal in our FC house to watch past cutscenes, I cannot help coming back to this specific one. Truly inspiring writing as you said, and so much emotion, and every single time Papalymo makes the choice, I tear up.. I myself have started going around to my favorite places in-game, as a means of saying goodbye, excited for what is to come in Stormblood.

There's something so ghastly about the depiction of Ilberd's death. The fast zoom in on his face with that brief flash of red before a "splat" and immediate darkness, only to briefly after see his corpse frozen in an expression of the madness he died with. It's honestly probably the most gruesome realistic death portrayal in this game. So far at least.
This scene always gets me
I just got to this part in game earlier today and i was like holy shit this is dark lol. Like seriously I think some people would of easily overlooked how dark of a scene this truly was. Awesome game tho but damn i did not expect this.
wait what do you mean? besides papalymo’s suicide what else is dark that could be overlooked?
@@surlakek Gathering people to attack and then betraying and slaughtering them so their deaths will summon a Primal to cause further death and destruction?

Illberd ultimately won. You may hate his tankie ways, but he forced the libs to take action against a fascist empire. If it wasn’t for him, Eaorzea would still be twiddling their thumbs before the empire came to them.

Yes, if you are doing the MSQ you will get a rol called "Answers: Reprise" it is that one.

Im having tough issues with the story of FFXIV. I dont care about any characters. Except Papalymo. He is the ONLY character I like. Im halfway through the 2.5 main story, and the only character I ever like seeing on screen is him.
And then he goes and DIES...! Who the F$%# am I supposed to care about now? No one! Not a single character is interesting. F@$& this game and it killing of the only well written character. God this game is the worst game Ive ever played in my life.

You are welcome to tell me why the characters are interesting. Show me cutscenes where characters interact with one another and show some actual personality.
Different strokes for different folks I suppose but I disagree with that sentiment myself. For me their have been quite a few characters to pop up in FFXIV story which I have liked. Most of the scions especially Urianger, Ysale, as a DRG main Estenien is my my bro, Haurchefant, especially Haurchefant, Gosetsu and Yugiri, Lord Hien. Illberd was a well written antagonist. I really can't remotely agree with you my friend.
Please tell me why you find them interesting. What opinions do they have that clash with other characters? Like Alphinaud. What strong opinions does he have and how does is differ from the other members of the scions, and what new opinions does he gain or drop?
I don't necessarily judge whether I like characters by the same qualifications that you might, keep that in mind. But I like the twins because they are characters still growing into roles of high expectations and trying to figure out what it all means. Their grandfather was some great savior of the world and they are stumbling along trying to make their own way and live up to that family name. They don't always succeed, and sometimes they are naive and fail like Alphinaud with his failed Crystal Braves endeavor, but he dusted himself off and he kept moving forward having learned a valuable lesson. To your opinion, while I liked Papalymo quite a bit and the dynamic between he and Lyse especially since they were the first Scion's I met as a Lancer starting out in Gridania, Papalymo was far from my favorite character in the game. I actually like Moenbryda more and she had far less exposure.
