Why was Jimmy's tone/amplification so good (IMO) in the late 79 early 80 shows? From Knebworth on sounded so ELECTRIC, not as muddy as Earl's court dvd. Did he change amps...anyone w/ a knowledge of amps/equipment greater than mine know? Thanks.
t a I can't really speak for 79/80, but I know in '75 his tone was very muddy because he played on the middle/bass pickup on his guitar, as opposed to the treble pickup which cut through the soundscape alot better
stinks they chose this weird distorted fetish presentation for the 1980 tour... for every instrument including Plant's voice. Ruins any hint of a groove

On the other hand, Bonham's drums didn't sound as booming as in the past. Still amazing drumming though- not complaining.
They had a new soundmen and by 1979 they were less reliant on Showco for sound and lighting
