It’s such a great climb! Combine it with Hartside Pass 10 miles to the north (8km at 5%) which is fun both up and down for a real treat

Yes I did see this one, just didn’t have time (or the bike) to do it 😅

Great video. You made that look easy👏👏👏 Have you done Rosedale Chimney bank or Buttertubs pass near Hawes. North Yorkshire has some nasty hills you’d love I’m sure

Not yet, but I’ll add them to the list 👌🏻

I did GDF for the first time a few weeks ago and it’s hilarious how similar our videos are!
Same huffing and puffing, same descriptions of the scenery, same questioning of life choices and same conclusion…. An absolutely epic climb! You managed to get up it 20 minutes quicker than me though. 😂
Massive kudos for doing it on a gravel bike with low pressure tyres too and even more kudos for setting up your camera and riding back up certain parts for b-roll! That’s literally going the extra mile. 💪🏻
I’m hoping to do Bealach na Bà in the not too distant future. We should get together for it. 😉👌🏻

Hey man, what are the chances 😅 it’s an epic climb for sure. I hope you got decent weather up there!
Love that you spotted the broll clips. I was honestly so cold that I didn’t want to take my gillet off even though I knew it would be so obvious I’d filmed them on the descent 😂
Yea Bealach na Ba the natural next choice. Let me know when you’re going 👀

@@grantritchie I’m not surprised about the temperature up there, so I completely understand the need for the gilet. For my climb, it was sunny at the start, then the clouds rolled in for the climb and then the heavens opened up on the way down. It felt like we were suffering the watery based punishment of the lord! An Ark would have been more suitable than a bike! 😂
And I literally just had a shirt sleeve summer jersey on! 🤦🏻‍♂️
Currently working on the logistics for Scotland but I’ll let you know. 👌🏻

Great video, thank you for sharing! What shoes have you changed to? I'm about to go on a 7 day trip to Croatia and thinking I need to upgrade my shoes as it's going to be some long days and big climbs

I went for the quoc gran tourer II as I know they fit me. Shoes are such a personal thing, if you have good fitting road shoes I’d perhaps look to see if they do a carbon soled gravel version. The carbon sole is the key bit.

Come across the pond and ride upstate New York and Vermont. We've got a few climbs (Whiteface) that rival the Alps. And hazy IPAs!

Interesting climb. It doesn't look that steep but must be if it's 625m in 7.5km. Bealach nam Ba with the extra 1km gravel track up to the weather station still the longest though. But why run tyres at 35psi? Back in the day when I only had one bike, and it had to be an mtb as most of my riding was unsurfaced hill tracks and boggy/rocky paths in the Highlands, I used Ritchey Quad 1.9" tyes, which were the best all round tyre by far. Were absolutely fine off-road but could also pump to 80 psi, and they had a zig-zag centre ridge so very low rolling resistance. So great for the backroads and coming back down the A9 after a day or two in the hills.

I don’t think the camera ever does steepness justice, it was definitely steep at points. I’ve not done Bealach na Ba get but it’s on my list. Perhaps I should do a UK climbs series 🤔
35psi is just what I tend to run on that bike for comfort and I didn’t have a track pump with me. But you’re right, I should have ran higher pressures and it would have been better like you say.

@@grantritchie Bealach nam Ba is the classic in Scotland. But very busy nowadays with NC500 tourist traffic. Stay in a B&B in Loch Carron, and get up early morning (5 or 6am) and then you have a chance of not having to stop for traffic on the narrow sections near the top. I did it about 15 years ago before NC500, middle of the day and still had to stop once as a lorry was coming down and not wide enough for both of us. Wind can also be a problem, I used very light 'dale xc mtb , and glad I did because it's easy for the wind to lift the front wheel on the steep sections and blow you off the road onto shitty gravel - this happened to me but thanks to 2" xc tyre was able to steer back onto the road and continue.
