Unfortunately primitive man Throwing sticks did not survive the thousands of years like Stone and Bone tools. I made a few back in late 60’s early 70s. Up in the Klamath marsh country. Primitive Man used Bolo’s. They ground lava rock stones into small conical football shape. Wrapped 3 of them in animal hide with stout hide or sinew strings. Tossed them at shore birds & small game. I have a few bolo stones found in Modoc/Lake county. In the Movie Jeremiah Johnson’ the scene where His flat Head bride harvested the Quail with just a Rock-based on Reality!!! Good stuff. Even if they survived they'd just look like a stick like any other, that's why it has to be out of ivory or some other material that would never naturally attain that shape.
I think common sense tells us they were the first weapon along with a rock and have been used for millions of years.
