    Thank you for this video. I've been trying to find a good solution to play my steam library on my phone for ages.
    Dual booting linux distros and running ARM64 and Wine and running SteamCMD.
    Linux smartphone distros like Ubuntu Touch with the WineBox package.
    This project renegade (if it works on my phone) might be the solution.
    The main inspiration was seeing a video about a guy running titanfall 2 on a nintendo switch on Linux with Box64 and Wine and getting 20fps. And then realising my new Snapdragon 8 Gen1 phone has like 2.51x the graphics performance of the nintendo switch so i could get like almost 60fps if it takes advantage of the hardware well.
    So vids like this are super helpful in seeing if trying this myself is worth it. In android benchmarks the graphics on the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 are 5.11x the 845 (makes it about equivalent to a 750Ti) so who knows, might be testing tomb raider at 90fps soon lol. Can only hope. :)

      Aren't the drivers the real issue here?

    • @HoneyTwee
      @HoneyTwee 10 месяцев назад

      @@Silent.killer_007 definitely could be, though I don't know how much drivers are affecting performance. But they are definitely impacting other areas of the device's usability.
      Installing windows on your phone with project renegade there is a spreadsheet for a lot of major phones showing how much functionality is offered. Things like camera, speakers, touchscreen not working. That kinda thing.
      But I have no idea if drivers are killing the performance versus what it could be.
      I'm just hopeful that all these comparability issues will begin to be sorted as apple embraces comparability layers to port games from windows x86 to MacOS ARM for their iPhone ports. And as windows 12 is rumoured to feature much better ARM support next year given how many companies (Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm, apple, Samsung) have been interested in making ARM chips for desktop.
      12 months from now this should hopefully be a very different landscape.

    • @Silent.killer_007
      @Silent.killer_007 10 месяцев назад

      @@HoneyTwee can you tell me more about project renegade? Is it better than box64 or winlator? I have heard about cassia emulator, people saying it is the best but in development. Which do you think is the best?

    • @HoneyTwee
      @HoneyTwee 10 месяцев назад

      @@Silent.killer_007 project renegade is not an alternative to Box64, but uses it. That's what is being used in this video.
      The three methods I'm aware of to run windows programs on an android phone are the following:
      1. Project renegade + Box64
      This is the most awkward solution from what I've seen. Only being supported on a small handful of devices that are now like 6/7 years old, like the snapdragon 845 in this video. Meaning graphics performance isn't amazing. And my understanding is this involves using a hacked BIOS to allow your phone to install windows for ARM, a version of Windows designed for a very specific few laptops that have similar processors to what's in your phone. But then to run games it has to go through Box64 to translate them which also hurts performance.
      Once windows 12 launches in 2024 though I could see project renegade or something similar taking off as ARM support becomes more built into windows. But right now this is just a cool bit of tech, but far too clunky to use for gaming really. Maybe if you have one of the specific supported phones and wanna play indie games?
      ruclips.net/video/nrvnpFCcZeA/видео.htmlsi=YUQuTqKD1EiZYTOr
      2. Linux + Box64 + Wine
      I think this is probably the best way to go as my understanding is it will work on any phone, allowing you to use newer flagships for the best performance.
      There was a great video on some guys doing this to a Nintendo switch but the English vid got removed, here's the Chinese one:
      ruclips.net/video/moCocKjqSCE/видео.htmlsi=E2CoZqD6eMpJySyS
      The main issues they have are because of the slow CPU mixed with the two layers of comparability layers. But with a decent phone I could see this getting playable frame rates. Just going off rough calculations comparin my phone to a nintendo switch I reckon I could get 70fps in Titanfall 2 720p for example. Earlier 2010s games would be totally playable if you could get them working. It involves installing a version of Linux to your phone, then getting games running through Wine to run windows games on Linux, and then through Box64 to make programs designed for desktop computers run on your phone chip. From what I've seen tho performance isn't actually too bad using both of those comparability layers at once. If the game works at all that is. Still a lot of faffing and I've never gone through with it myself because of that.
      3. Emulators (Winlator)
      This is probably the simplest, but worse performing option. It will run inside of android so doesn't require dual booting a separate operating system on your phone. But the performance is dreadful with it being an emulator. I think my 1 year old smartphone gave me like 19 cinebench R20 score, which is equivalent to like a 2004 desktop computer processor. Much much much slower than what the actual phone is capable of. And it doesn't have graphics acceleration, just basic emulator drivers too. The only games that this will sort of run are like fallout 3 at 25fps. Things like that. But it works on every device.

      @@ziroku-astro XDDDDDDD.
      El S.O es nativo porque Microsoft hizo la distribución para ARM.
      Repito el S.O de Windows fue compilado para ARM.
      Mucha gente como tú cree y piensa que porque existe Windows nativo para ARM significa que todo lo demás es nativo.
      Lo peor de todo es que incluso gente con ligero conocimiento en programación piensa lo mismo.
      Por si no se entendió Windows es nativo, lo demás NO.
      Sobre todo en juegos porque solo los dueños de estos pueden hacer la compilación para cualquier plataforma.
      Y por último se puede ver el tipo de versión que se ejecuta en el administrador de tareas.
      Y en todos esos juegos solo se ejecuta la versión de x86-x64.
      Por lo cual es emulación, ya que la emulación es la ejecución de código no nativo.
      Saludos.👍

      @@ziroku-astro En estos casos se tiene que especificar a qué distribución de Windows nos referimos.
      Por qué el tradicional Windows de Pc es de arquitectura x86-x64 y Windows ARM es de arquitectura arm.
      GTA V esta escrito para la arquitectura x86-x64 y nada más.
      Ósea GTA V solo es compatible para la versión Windows (x86-x64). Y por ende Windows ARM no puede ejecutar GTA V hasta que este mismo sea compilado para la arquitectura ARM.
      Pero entonces te preguntarás: Porque Windows ARM puede ejecutar GTA V si no es compatible con éste???? 🤔
      Lo puede ejecutar porque Microsoft creó una capa de traducción que hace que Windows ARM pueda ejecutar código en lenguaje x86-x64.
      En palabras simples; Windows ARM tiene que emular los juegos de Windows x86-x64 porque simplemente no esta compilado en su lenguaje.
      Y la única manera de GTA V sea nativo para Windows ARM es que Rockstar compile para su versión.
      Saludos 👍
