'80s bootlegs aren't often filmed from the crowd, this perspective is great. It looks like your typical cell-phone video from a concert, except with good audio quality and from a different era... Thanks for sharing this piece of history.
He was a time traveler for Cliff. Is that Cliff? The LED lights under my counter came on while typing this. I’ve been having a very hard time lately. Wow
Almost all bootlegs came from either the crowd or the wings. This is one of the best from the 80s. There's a ton of footage from then this must have been on a Sony beta or something. Sony has always been quality equipment. I'd say it's the same model used in the back to the future movies. My friend's mom had one and we used it for recording rehearsals. The sound was pretty good. We sucked but the audio was fine.
I actually purchased numerous bootleg concerts back then (mainly of Metallica... but other bands like Megadeth as well). They were sometimes sold on LP that the bootlegger recorded it onto. I’ve got about a dozen or so bootleg concerts from The Kill em All days as well as RTL and MOP tours snd I believe one or two concerts from AJFA... I’ve even got the recording of Cliffs last show as well. I used to collect rare Metal albums (mainly Metallica) back in the mid 80s. Different colored vinyl albums and picture discs, etc... I kinda lost interest in them once they became popular (After AJFA). Things just weren’t the same after that.
It sounds better with electric when playing the acoustic parts of this song because with electric you can put on flanger or chorus which are two of my favorite mods 😭😪💕🎸
first time i seen Cliff play this song. awseome man. Thats when they used to headbang to every fixking song lol. fuxk yeah James, Kirk, Lars and Cliff!
@@gregoryrincon1735 Dude that’s awful. I’m so sorry for your loss. Drugs suck. I’m a sophomore too and it’s crazy the amount of teens at my school who vape and get high off of drugs. Drugs are scary.
This is one of my favorite songs of Metallica, and I wish they would still play in it like in this time, without shortening the solo, and Kirk changing the middle section of it.
I agree. But the funny thing is that he has said that back in those days he felt insecure as a drummer and that he always felt he had to prove himself, and so he took lessons back then to learn the fundamentals of drumming, but to also get to a level where he could play super fast double kick, and do it naturally. He said he would practice for hours on end, pretty much till he fell of the drum seat.
@Brian Hardaway I'd say that at his peak Lars was pretty much on par with lombardo and other drummers of that era as I've seen plenty of live footage of eighties Metallica and of eighties era Slayer and apart from the songs being different, I can't see any difference in their playing abilities. They both had their pluses and minuses. But no one is perfect.
Back in those days he was always about trying to prove and improve himself as a drummer because he felt insecure about his drumming and he felt that others were judging him in a negative light, so he said he used to try and overcompensate, whereas now he said it doesn't worry him.

+RezHD first off, no need to be rude. Secondly, this post was 9 months ago, i know way more than i did back then. Third, they didn't even use a distortion pedal, they used a foot switch.
6:00 James and Cliff headbanging in unison! I love it! I love these guys so much!! METALLICA ROCKS! RIP Cliff :(

MrGollywock Where did the footage come from, Metallica posted a video of a performance from the same perspective.

I’ve been having a very hard time lately.
Wow
@@Stable_Enough This was Cliff's penultimate show. He died a few days later, on my birthday, no less.

This is right before he switched to EMGs.

Fuck dude I’m so sorry. What happened?
@EquineMetalhead he died in a drug deal that went wrong over summer, while we we're in our sophomore year in high-school

Thank you for this upload!! Always cool seeing Cliff RIP!! Love to see performances when they were young and witnessing that raw energy!!
Amazing performance.
Lars' drumming in general was a million times better than it is today

@@emmett4880 I read it in some magazine where he was being interviewed.
Well yeah he’s getting old what do you expect lmao
R.I.P. Cliff burton we love it
This is the best channel on youtube....
Oh my God this so beautiful. Why hast thou forsaken me?
I really enjoy Lars' drumming here

Este canal tiene buenos contenidos de Metallica no entiendo porque tan pocos subscriptores, pero igual contenido para grandes fanes
Nice video dude
Hi Cliff!!! \m/
Giovanni Tamini how you doing ?
Lars drum set was so good, i personally like this one so much for the one he use this days, to simple....
He also had a Ride Cymbal.
That clean tone though
Capisco! Beh, peccato che come al solito ci sia qualcuno che tenta di arrichirsi tramite una forma di passione! Grazie x la spiegazione!
Good old days....1 or 2 cameras recording illegally so we can enjoy this gold on vhs......now legally fucking shows with cell phones
Nice :D
🤘🏼🤘🏼
This is RARE !
Most today dont play w such intensity
I never thought I'd see James headbanging to the acoustic part😄
Lars headbanging is awesome FUCK YEAH
Amazing video! I'm just interested to know where you find ALL this footage?
Jax890 he re edits audio and footage and combines it he finds all on the web

Metallica with Cliff was just on a different level!
🤘☺️🤘
WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH
could you please put the whole show :D
Today I learned that the acoustic guitar live on Fade to Black is not exactly a new idea. Already on Puppets tour, it seems.
#100
5:00 Lars looks like Animal from the Muppets. So epic.
How do they change from the clean sound to an overdrived sound?
absolutezero951 They have two channels on their amp head with a footswitch to change channels. Those Marshalls are versatile that way.
AugustusLarch
Ok. Thanks for the reply.
+AugustusLarch I think he's asking how they switch as in what they do. James has someone backstage who switches the sound for him
they use a distortion pedal smh🙄

do it :D
That was real Metallica. Not whatever this is today.
They might only have one or two songs from the show.
It´s not the same footage. So this is rare.
How to look famous on stage... Put a lot of amps on stage...
It's probably just the venue. I don't think Metallica had the space for a 100 Marshal stacks to go to each of their shows at the time
Im right? It was the last Cliff Burton Concert?
non dovrebbero essere solo su scambio i bootleg? Non ne avevo mai trovati in vendita
It's master or 2nd gen?
Damage inc tour.....
watch?v=BJPkfOMjIo0
whole show man enjoy :)
bootlegs should be free!
Like an Jason Voorhees part 6
