I am an old guy and a scientist, but have always kept up with technology. When bluetooth was being developed it was featured as a “personal” networking protocol. It then took a relatively long time to roll out. Bluetooth, by the way, was King Harald of Denmark, who unified the Danish tribes and was a big fan of blueberries. His subjects nicknamed him blue tooth!

Good overall view but lacking some of the newer features
    1. Bluetooth now requests a passcode to connect (can still use a default preexisting passcode on some devices that don't support passcode entry).
    2. WiFi is not only 2.4 GHz, it's also 5 GHz and 6 GHz now. There are also some non standard frequency ranges in use (I've seen 60 GHz listed). Lower the frequency the greater the range, higher the frequency the greater the speed but diminished range.
    3. You can also run a network over Bluetooth, although it's slow and you would opt for WiFi instead if you had the choice

I was active in IT when Bluetooth was developed. The initial idea came from this. A salesman was in a customers office. He had just made a sale, and wanted to give the customer a receipt, but it was impractical to carry a printer around. So Bluetooth allowed the salesman to connect, wirelessly, to a printer in hte customer's office, and produce a paper receipt.
One great (unknown today) advantage was that this was in the days before USB ports existed, and there were multiple cable interfaces available, which would have made hooking a laptop or simiar type device to a printer even more difficult .

Thank you! I was wondering for years what it's all about. And no, I'm no beginner but did'nt feel I needed to go to trouble to find out. I used bluetooth to connect expensive ear buds to my smartphone and found out that manufacturers cheated on the public. The cheaper versions would not listen to the navigation app on my smartphone, but to phone calls only. The expensive ones would leave out the first letter of the directions of the app. So I never again purchased any bluetooth device or downloaded an app using it, let aside to buy hardware, for the last approx. 15 years.

Essentially, both Bluetooth and WiFi are used to connect devices to each other (WiFi Direct is also a thing), my concern was why they both exist even though WiFi is seemingly superior.
And from what I understood, it's that Bluetooth is more resilient to interference, it has more channels (70 vs 12, so the channels are thinner - more devices can connect to each other in the same space, consume less power and be useful, while fewer devices need a higher broadband, to connect to the internet for example.

Many non-pro reviewers walk around with their phone in their pocket and cpmplain about drop-outs. Also phone volumes should not be higher than 75 -85% to avoid pops and crackling for BT connections as stated in the phone operating instructions.

There is a password mechanic with the Bluetooth technology but these days they either opt to send the required password as a prompt to the targeted device, use a standard 1234-code mentioned in the manual or neglect the process entirely for the sake of convenience.
Though, back in the early days Bluetooth was even less safe. I remember leaving Bluetooth on on my Sony Ericsson T610 and standing at a crowded station when I noticed unsolicited traffic between my phone and an unknown source trying to copy my data.

i always wondered as why industry didn't set a standard for combined use of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
it is like, the handshake and connectivity authorizations happen over Bluetooth, all control signals go over Bluetooth but the actual data flows over Wi-Fi. as it is, both work from the same chip on a mobile so synchronizing both is not a hard thing to do.
so, if I want to send files from my mobile to a friend's mobile, both mobiles could ideally connect and authenticate one another over Bluetooth, and once done and verified, the files would be sent over Wi-Fi which still again uses Bluetooth to ensure that the two mobiles are still close enough, else if they move away, the connection is halted or terminated. this is a security feature which can be implemented easily using Bluetooth.

I still remember when we transfer Honey Singh's song by Bluetooth
We just select 10 songs (because we can't send more than 10 files at once) and leave both phones overnight

There is multi-point bluetooth for one ear piece to many mobile-phones...
IF the wifi-antenna were to be used to transmit emulated-bluetooth to broadcast to multiple bluetooth receiver speakers after pairing(within 10 meters)...

Talking about maximum range is very relative. Both BL and Wi-Fi can reach up to dozens of kilometers. You forgot to mention, that Wi-Fi is 802.11 protocol and BL is 802.15.1 protocol. Maximum range depends on the antenna gain and TX power of each radio transmitter. Speaking about interference between BL and Wi-fi. If your device uses the same chain radio transmitter for both BL and Wi-Fi and you have both BL & Wi-Fi turned on and transmit data threw them, then you can measure a significant interference especially on wi-fi , the speed drops probably to 10% which is extremely bad.

Bluetooth is usually one to one, items close to each other for simple tasks. Wifi is about a network where a lot of items are to be connected together, which can be very complicated if choose to.
