West station was a stunning building , I know it would be in the middle of the new waterfront development adjacent to Malmaison but still I wish it could have been saved...

The planners did worse than the Germans. Station was absolutely stunning entrance to Dundee. Wellgate was turned into a drab Soviet could be anywhere shopping centre and the crime of the Overgate is unforgivable. Medieval buildings torn down when even in the 60s there was a proposal to keep the facades. Dundee is undergoing a rebirth but by god they ruined the place for decades. So nice to see Tayside House gone and Dundee connected to the docks again. I’m not old enough to remember the water coming right up to Dundee town centre. Which of course went to give us a bridge.

That bridge ruined the city. Paid for I believe in part by shopkeepers who assumed that the traffic would stop and shop in dundee but all it did was cause congestion. Dundee lost it's access to the waterfront and the docks which would have been an asset today.

The docks have actually been refurbished again now. I see a lot of activity going on from my window

The road bridge has been a curse to the city. It's an ugly looking thing for a start, ruining the views of the river. It's also built in a ridiculous location, bringing traffic right into the centre of the city most of which is just passing through. It's destroyed the entire river front as a busy road has to take traffic out to the ring road. It should have been built at the western edge of the city. Dundee has one of the most notoriously corrupt councils in Britain though.

Can hardly bear to watch the criminal destruction of so much of the old city.

The old Overgate, University Rag week, the 'Fifies' some things should never have changed. A lot of things have changed for the better but I felt the heart of the city was ripped out when they (allegedly corrupt council) agreed to the demolition of the old Overgate rather than internally modernising of the existing buildings, a bit like the Royal mile in Edinburgh. Still at least the rerouting of the Tay Bridge and giving back access to the waterfront is a step in the right direction. I also doubt very much whether the whole Rag week escapades would be acceptable in this very PC day and age of 'social justice warriors', 'snowflakes' and the 'woke' generation.
