  • Lyrics video to the song Drive by Incubus.
Just some sort of gap-filler, since it's been ages since I last uploaded a video ....
And I believe it is a little off time in the beginning; WMM fucked it all up.

This song misleads ppl into thinking it's about drunk driving, but it's really about self-reliance. Drive is a metaphor for "steering" your life, and he's saying that he's been driven by "following the crowd" before and he thinks a lot of people are, but he's found that being driven by his own motivations and himself brings him happiness and understanding.

Well said, because I am one of those who thought it was about drinking and driving.I mean, come on it is so obvious from the lyrics that is what the normal listener would think upon hearing it. But your interpretation, lends a great way of looking at it from a different point of view. A great one at that.Kudos.After hearing your point, it really makes me rethink what I originally thought the song was about.

    • @NAPT0WNNUISANCE
      @NAPT0WNNUISANCE 9 лет назад +10

Hmm really, because any one who has any intelligence at all would come to that conclusion after hearing this, and think that it is about not drinking and driving upon hearing the song.Because that is what it sounds like what it is about. " Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive" I don't know but to me that sends the message of " I don't want to drink and drive " but that's just what I took from it as many others have. But really like all music it is really all about what the listener interprets as.

For me, this song is about self motivation, or "driving" yourself to do something and not let everybody force you as well as following your own path. Don't do what everybody else is doing and do what you think is right. Push yourself past the limits and dont let anyone's words or actions get in your way. And if you want to do something then push yourself to do it.

People really need to stop shitting on emotions because they think it sounds cool to be an unemotional sack of flesh. There is nothing wrong with having emotions and there's nothing wrong with expressing your emotions as long as you do it in a healthy and rational way. Our emotions are there for a reason. They're signals for us and for our lives and what we want and what we don't want and how we're being affected in that current moment in time. Feel your emotions, analyze them and if they make sense, then act. We're not robots.

@@katiedicey6560 The difference is the music then had a larger swath of meaning and depth to it. Whereas today they are generic song builder flex songs about how great the singer is etc. Don't get me wrong all ages had their own versions of this to contend with, but never before has the entire focus if the music industry been so focused in these types of songs and "artists" as it is now. There is a very clear generational break in music with lyrical meaning. Modern music in most respects with its very few shining examples, is mostly garbage promoting garbage life styles and garbage outlooks. Taking optimistic outlooks away and instead telling kids they need to be "hard" and "gangsta" etc to make it and they need to be vile so they keep their image and its just so much negative shit behind out of tune noises that make no sense to be there. Or the songs are useless sexual innuendo about how great the rapper/singer is at fucking women who are in emotionally compromised places, or the songs are telling women not to have self respect because they need to find a "tough nigga" anyway because they aren't anything without them.
There is a clear difference in music, in a way the previous generations haven't really experienced. The age of artists like Elton John, David Bowe and Led Zepplin just just name a few,, etc being the generational norm of style, to people like Lil' Wayne, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars being the "new age" artists of the same caliber as the legends who wrote songs that inspired entire generations of people to do things with their lives, to now being relegated to on par woth rave/club music you listen to in the back round of your insane acid trip while you forget who you even are.
At one point in time I held the "everyone thinks the previous generations music is crap" argument but now, I don't. I just think the new generation are too stupid to understand music with real meaning and depth, it infuriates them they don't know what it means and they dislike it and move on regarding it as bad because they lack the mental capacities to understand it.
Music isn't music anymore, it's a quick exchange commodity and is being treated as such. Thats why we have NO modern artists that inspire the same level of passion and awe as people like Elton John or David Bowe did, again just off the top of my head.
Modern music is less a melody and symphonic blend of sound and voice, and more a cacophony of out of tune sounds with a synthesized voice so tuned you can't actually tell who's it is or what they are saying for the most part.
Thats not music, that's brain mush.

    See the metaphor now

I find myself in absolute awe, but at the same time, profoundly sad. What was once merely entertainment, to say, 'a catchy tune' - due purely to the ignorance of a child, has revealed its true beauty. After reading, and actually comprehending, the lyrics of several Incubus songs, I finally understand the genius of his lyrics... he was one of the first yelling 'fire', yet nobody listened. Now, it seems he was ahead of his time - yet it's a timeless, nearly universally understood, message about a system at its breaking point. Melancholy, to say the least. Profoundly beautiful... that's a better description.
Enjoy. Peace. Please. Before it's too damn late.

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much I'll let the fear
    Take the wheel and steer
    It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal
But lately I am beginning to find
That I should be the one behind the wheel
    Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
    Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there
So if I decide to waiver my chance
To be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive?
    It's driven me before
And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around
But lately I am beginning to find
That when I drive myself my light is found
    So whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
    Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there
Would you choose water over wine
    Hold the wheel and drive?
    Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
    Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there

This song is a very interesting song for me! It took a long time to find it but I remember my abusive father used to love this song before I cut all ties and while he still can keep me down to this day this song feels like a opposite thing for me! Instead of it meaning the same thing as my father means to me of being something that has kept me down for years and something I hate it has become a thing that speaks to me saying no matter what happens, no matter how bad things get to keep going on and make it to the next day!
