I can speak on reason number 4 even though it’s a stupid thing for people to do: Whenever people park next to nicer cars than the ones they own, they typically use the car in itself as a reference point to remember where they parked. Especially in cases where there’s a big number of cars in a confined space. It’s easier to remember that you parked next to a purple Lamborghini than it is to remember parking next to a white Corolla.
@@BladedAngel my theory is that she knew you liked cars(im assuming you also did back then) and she just wanted to park next to an exciting car for a kid :)
I have an idea : have 3 cars , a lambo and 2 corolla , park the lambo at an empty spot , wait for someone to park next to lambo and get inside the building Move the lambo to the somewhere random but vague enough that they get confused. Box their car in with 2 corollas on either side. Kind of good troll idea ?
@@BladedAngel My parents personally did this because they assume people with nice cars are more likely to take care when driving while other drivers are more likely to take care around said car to avoid damaging what they believe is an expensive car
yeah I've been eating in my car on work break but I also have a really potent car deodorizer I leave in my toolbox for when I start to notice the smell
Nothing is worse than being on your 30 minute break and some other coworker wants to talk your ear off the whole time. Sorry, it's not a break if I can't turn my brain off!
For number 4, one reason I've heard is that people with higher end cars are less likely to recklessly yank open their door and scrape up your car. Basically, by parking next to a more expensive car, the odds decrease that the owner of said car will end up damaging yours. Whether this is true or not is up for debate.
@@zachmartinez2295When people are stealing cars, they don’t just look for the nicer car. They look for the least uncommon. Wrap your cars, folks, paint em, tint em, make them your own.
I've had this confirmed to me. I drive an Alfa Romeo Giulia and have had a few drivers of other nice cars tell me when they parked next to me that the reason why, was because they knew I wasn't going to ding their car with my door.
If you park your shitbox next to a nice car it's less likely to get stolen. Also people with expensive cars are less likely gonna damage yours because they are afraid of damaging their own.
Am I the only one who thinks its rude to park next to a nice car when you drive a shitbox? Maybe I'm more self conscious than most, but I'm more concerned about the owner of the nice car being concerned that I'll be beating up their car with my POS. Judging by the responses, I feel sorry for people who have to park in public places with wheels that cost more than $100k I can't imagine having to fend off the hordes of crapmobiles who insist on cuddling up next to a car that costs thousands just for an oil change. I think this is why doctors and executives get their own parking zones. It keeps the peasants away.
people in nice cars will probably be more careful true. but the most stolen cars in the USA aren't the expensive ones. so I don't know if you have one of those commonly targeted cars, if parking next to a land rover will deter someone from stealing it.
In caveman terms: Car have ac, car have heat. Car protect from outside elements, Car provide space of solitude. Car have audio system. Car seats comfortable. Y no eat in car? Nah fr tho, if you have a spacious/comfortable enough interior and clean up after eating i dont see whats so weird about it. I sometimes chill in my impala's backseats. I even see some people say its depressing(?) I say its a vibe to eat and listen to my music rather than eating outside or alone in a public space. Note: i guess it does depend on how you feel about your interior. I probably wouldnt eat in it if i didnt like it so much
Exactly I can 100% understand not wanting to ruin the interior of a rather expensive corvette or mustang but my 02 CRV isn’t exactly going to get much worse from me eating inside
Heat/AC don't work when parked (usually. Some BMWs have a "residual heat" function that can run for 15 minutes). Going inside means an actual table instead of holding food in your lap.
@@darthquigley AC and heat absolutely work when the car is parked you do need to have the engine running though also it means you don’t need to listen to whatever is happening in the restaurant
@@darthquigley Why limit it to your lap? Unless your car is cramped you have: Center console, Dashboard, the OTHER seats. Do you seriously get out of the car everytime you want to eat on a road trip for example? Even a snack? Also A/C doesn't require the car to be moving. Just need the compressor to be running with the engine for a small bit. And no one is gonna go eat in the car after a cold start for heat.
I went to the store yesterday and the car that was parked there was still running. It urks me for some reason. I think it's a combination of theft, using gas that you don't need to (even if it's very little), and the fact that I can handle the extra 3 seconds it takes to restart the engine.
A habit that I will never understand is not paying attention to the arrows in parking lots. There are countless times where I am following the direction it’s supposed to go, and then some MF is coming the opposite direction, and it becomes a game of chicken, which I obviously back down from because I’m not insane.
@@deluxe_1337 people just generally don’t drive slow enough in parking lots Until you get someone who stops in the middle and blocks everything one for 20 minutes because they’re oblivious (without hazards ;) )
Parking lot = free-for-all Did too many years as cart-pusher at a Hell-Mart that had one-way lanes. Between us being in danger from folk ignoring them arrows, and the asshats who go the wrong way blocking traffic going the right way and I'm close enough that I get pulled into setting things straight were good times 😂
We used the tables at Sonic a lot because it was on the way home for most kids walking, but they banned us from hanging out there so they became useless.
Same for me when I was in middle school but without the banning part. They put a Popeyes right next to the sonic though so i imagine that's the new hangout spot now.

I didn't eat in the car until that December when my whole household gave each other Covid. I had to reverse isolate as the one non-infected. So when I got dinner and I'm parked out front next to the trash can, I'm not eating outside where it's windy and freezing. Plus, soft seats and sound reduction in my private heated pod with a stereo system. Only thing I needed was some curtains and a sink.
I oftentimes park next to nice cars for 3 reasons: 1. I just feel like people with nice cars tend to be more careful because they care more about cars in general (and their car) than regular people, so the chance of them hitting my car with their door and similar stuff is lower. 2. I like to look at cool cars so whenever I park next to them I get an excuse to look at them up close when getting out and before getting back into my car again. 3. I always feel like my miata gets exited/happy whenever I park it next to nice cars (kinda stupid ik) Edit: I just now realised that you actually mentioned the door part in your video
I'm more concerned about the nice car owner being anxious about my miata being too close to their car. I follow the 1 space rule. If the lot is crowded, I try to park next to cars that are washed, but not necessarily "nice". That is, if I can't just park at the top floor of a parking garage and just take the elevator down. If there's minimal speed bumps, I'll just do that, or take the surface parking and park away from everyone. I drive a 312 hp 2000 NB with a rollbar, heat extractors, a hardtop, and a ton of other mods. What's your setup like?
@@christopherlowery855 yea whenever there's enough space I'll just try to park a bit more separated myself. I just got my 2006 nc in the beginning of 2024 and so far all I have is a different exhaust. Planning on getting a better exhaust manifold, midpipe, camshaft, stiffer suspension, rollbar, some wheels and a tune for now (and maybe forced induction later on) but as a student I'm broke so that's gonna take some time. Also that power on your NB is crazy. When did you start the build?
I drive an Alfa Romeo Giulia and tend to park out a little ways too. Once had a guy in a brand new M4 park next to me just as I was getting in my car. I complimented his car and after he thanked me for the compliment, he confirmed that he deliberately parked next to me, because he wanted to park beside someone he knew wouldn't ding his door. Made sense to me.
Ill eat in my honda but ever since I got an nd miata I never thought about eating it, maybe bcs its a really nice car or because theres little to no room in it
This^ The more I read this comment section, The More I realize it's a SPACE issue for me. I'm surrounded by Carbon Fiber I don't want to soil and I have a MASSIVE "Oh Shit Divider" (Look up C7 Interior for those who don't know what I mean) and my lanky ass arms would just bump into it, if I tried to eat. I also cannot place anything flat like a tray on my Center Console, since again, that massive Divider. I'm very close to my steering wheel (I'm average sized, only 180lbs 6ft) so I can't use my lap either. So I just exit my car.
@@BladedAngelFor me, it doesn't matter how much space I have in the car, I still don't eat in it. The wife eats in her car and there's wrappers, crumbs, and just traces of food everywhere. Sometimes we'll be driving home after stopping to get something and she's reaching in the bag and eating something. I turn over and tell her "can't you wait!?" Drives me nuts. When I was younger, I would ride in other people's cars a lot. I just remember seeing french fries, catchup, and mustard stains all over the place. When the car gets hot, you can smell all the food. It's gross. Ever since then, I told myself I would never eat in my car. I never have. The most you'll get from me is drinking a beverage, but that's it. Cheers mate.
1 : I hate eating in my car or having other people eat in my car because i can't stand it getting dirty or greasy frome food. 2 : I'd only leave my car running if I have a passenger and it's cold out and i want to stay warm inside. 4 : I try to park my car without anyone next to me, it's kinda like going to a public bathroom and not using a urinal next to someone else.
@@simplevoicereviewssvr6418You don't eat food in bed do you? Even though I imagine you would clean your sheet and quilt fairly often. So why in the car? We not eating in the car doesn't mean we don't clean our cars.
I eat in my car quite often on road trips. Why? The types of restaurants I'm likely to stop at will be very loud, filthy, crowded, and generally obnoxious to be in. Staying in my car lets me avoid all that and get back on the road quicker. Also, I do sometimes leave my car running when just going in somewhere for a "quick errand", but only when it's really cold out. It can get below -40 where I live, and it's really hard to keep heat in a vehicle at those temperatures, so nearly everyone just leaves their car running once it gets to that point. It helps though, that my car allows me to leave it running, take the key with me, and lock the doors.
I think the reason people park next to nice cars. Is to make their car less appealing to get stolen. A bad car next to a good car, which would you try stealing?
Here in Brazil a popular car is more prone to be stolen than any luxury car because there is more popular car owners that will buy parts for cheap in a illegal demolition place.
@@LadyMaria_AstralClocktower I wish I could, but then if they decide to turn in on me after like 10 seconds of not taking the turn, then now I might have brain damage bc of them. but yeah, luckily, nothing that bad happened.
Yeah the most Ill eat in my car is a slim jim or jerky because it stops myself from losing focus from STARVING and usually I only drink water. My car is my temple 🛕
The hazard lights thing is something I almost never do, but I'm very happy there's a general understanding from people what it means. My mom has a hard time walking right now and she needed me to give her a ride. I was there for all of 15 seconds but the one car that was behind me knew exactly what to do.
I've got an anecdote for all of these; 1. The only time I can think of eating in my car in recent memory was right before a roadtrip with some family. We got fast food right around the corner, then traveled to another state right after (it was just convenient to eat, then drive after). 2. (This one is a bummer) My dad used to start our car in the winter, then leave it unattended for 5-10 minutes to warm the engine up before going anywhere. My mom picked up this habit from him, and one time she did this (after my dad passed away) someone jumped into her SUV and tried to steal it right out of the driveway. Thankfully, she managed to get the guy out of the vehicle with only a broken tooth. All the more reason to not leave your vehicle on unattended. 3. My friend at work is trying to save up money to get a daily driver, so I drive him home often. We usually chat for a few minutes while I'm parked outside his house (he lives with other people, and his driveway is usually full). We work third shift, so when we get off work, school busses are often out. I put my hazards on while dropping him off, so busses aren't stuck behind me. 4. My dad used to drive a '78 Camaro, and he also used to have people park next to him for whatever reason (he also deliberately parked away from other people).
Leaving your engine on is common for semi trucks and diesel engines in general since starting the engine is harder than gas powered engines. This habit trickles down to people who don’t own them but grew up around people who did.
You mean diesel engines in normal cars? I don´t know about trucks, but on regular diesel cars that´s not a problem. maybe on oldtimers, but I have a diesel myself and this isn´t a problem.
I leave my diesel cars on since I'm already doing a short trip, not tryna make it even shorter, it's not good for a diesel engine to be doing short trips, hell for any engine really
I do eat in my car, I would prefer to eat in my truck for a work break. I always turn my truck off, I only leave it running (cause I can lock it while it’s running) if I’m running into somewhere real quick, is when it’s cold, it’s a 25 year old 217k mile v8, it doesn’t want to be started continuously in the cold. One thing I hate, is my dads trucks auto start/Stop. Hate it! Engines are just happy when they are running, not turned off and on off and on.
One habit of mine is parking next to the same model car as me. I got a 2013 civic SI and if I see another 9th gen civic of any trim level I’ll park next to it kind of like a buddy system. It’s a weird habit but I like to see the same car as me for some reason.
The "Parking next to the nice car" person does it so if anyone decided to rob a random car, they go for the nicer one next to their shitbox, my father was this way lol
As someone who ate at Sonic before, I'd argue it's honestly great for just, relaxing after a long day, like at a convention. I ate there multiple times during the days I went to TFCon 2023 (I can't wait til they come back to my area, I loved everyone there), and it was just helpful after all of the walking and talking and such, to just relax, sit in the car and enjoy some food!
When im in the middle of BFE (Bumfuck, Egypt), I'll leave mine idling when i go in somewhere. My starter is old, and i don't feel like getting stranded if its get up and go gets up and leaves. In the city, however, is a different story.
Honestly eating in your car has been one of the nicest experiences with friends if had especially after a trip or going out just eating while chilling and talking with your friend is pretty nice idk is mostly vibes is definitely not practical at all mostly for moments like that.
From an Alaskan perspective, leaving the car on in the lower 48 makes very little sense. But up here, especially when it's cold, for example, -40°, nearly everyone leaves their car on. Otherwise, it can get quite cold. However, in the remote northern villages, at -70°, the car might not even start if you turn it off.
in my country, when you're parked somewhere for a bit/somewhere we kinda arent supposed to, we put our indicator to the side we're stopped, so the people behind us know were stopped on this side, then we can jus switch the indicator to the other side when we're leaving
At the airport near where I live, there's like a double-width shoulder so you can stop to pick someone up. But if you stop in the lanes of travel, or even stop on the shoulder for more than maybe 2 minutes, you'll have multiple parking attendants on you. I got really close to getting a ticket once, the attendant was literally walking towards me with his ticket book until he saw I was leaving and cleared traffic so I could get out. So yeah, no hazard lights cheat button there. There's also a street where I live as well that's super crowded usually, and it's super hard to find parking, so if you pull the hazards trick there, you'll be incurring everybody's wrath
Parking -wise i like to park next to cool cars as a car enthusiast, most of the time i park next to same brand cars and i noticed other Mazda owners also park next to me
My mom actually used to say she parked next to nice cars because the people driving the car would be more careful not to hit her car when leaving the parking lot. So i too (only when the farther parking spot is not avaliable) happen to park next to nicer vehicles.
For number 3: Me and my dad do it when we need to buy something from a specific store. I wait in the car so in case it needs to be moved I can move it. I also stop at the side of the road if someone calls me
In defense of idling. I drive for work and one of our vehicles is a large diesel box truck, diesels are designed to idle for extremely long periods of time. I’m also usually working with at least one other person so someone is usually either on their way to the car as someone else is walking away from it.
@@BladedAngel Don't get me wrong, I know what you meant. And we do have times where both or all three people on my team are in the truck stop at the same time, but it isn't usually for more than 3 or so minutes and frankly every single one of us would think it was hilarious if someone stoke the truck. A lot of it depends on whether conditions and location; there's no way we'd leave the trucks running in a hood or a rich neighborhood because it's equally likely to get stolen or broken into in either place. But a normal middle class area that we're familiar with, yeah we'll let the truck idle for 8 hours if we need while working.
A lot of the things I do related to cars are very similar to yours. I haven't got the opportunity to buy my own first car, so I normally use my parents. My country is notorious for having bikers, especially careless ones. When you mentioned you park your car far away in a quiet place away from everyone, that really hit me because I do exactly that! I don't want some random person just coming by and scratching/damaging my car because they really have nothing to lose. This and many other reasons are why I have fallen In-love with your content and have been watching you for years now! I hope you never stop making these videos as us younger generation are dependent on the more experienced generation(that is you guys) for all the car wisdom. Love you all the way from Pakistan!
Work to home for me is 30 mins & traffic gonna do a traffic. 5 min walk from my work is a shawarma stand so I always get that. Eating that shawarma with my weeb metal playlist playing while slowly driving in traffic is just blissful & a vibe. Of course I get why a lot of folks won't get, even my dad gives me a stare if I snack on some cashews while driving but hey I never touch my phone while driving. I even tell my passenger to text for me.
My car has a place to charge my phone, a radio that plays whatever I want from my phone, a seat already set to my preferences, and most of the time cup holders. I always ate lunch in my car instead of a break room at work. I also uses to smoke and still vape so that's a bonus. Hard to complain about a few crumbs when your car smells like cigarettes.
In my country people leave their car idling to warm it up if it's really cold outside. It's not good for the engine to let it cool down and heat up again + it drains the battery. Also most cars come with two or more keys so you can use a spare one to lock the doors from the outside.
About number 1 in Europe restaurants are usually in downtown built in an already existing building or in a mall where parking is far away and people need to sit and get in and order, the only places that have drive throughs are fast foods like mcdonalds and burger king Also some people don't care about their car 3 is worse in Italy because in small towns people will just stop and talk to a friend on the opposite lane in the midddle of the road
I don't do 4 exclusively, but the reason I like parking next to nice cars is because I think it's the funniest shit. Like there would be a $100k Mercedes, a $200k BMW, and then a 20 year old metallic-green clown car that's not even worth as much as their phones parked next to them.
#4 gotta be the most annoying people. Get away from my nice car with your no insurance ahh clapped POS. I once parked at a local food place with no one else in the parking lot, and some large woman parked her crappy jeep liberty in the way the driver door was next to my passenger door and I just watched her struggle to squeeze out of the door and shook my head. Knowing shes bigger and needs to open her door the most, why park so you can't open your door in a empty parking lot 🤦♂
My first time eating while driving was when I picked up a Maccas burger on the way to a gig I had (musician), and ate it while driving in traffic lol. I sometimes do it but not that much and very simple foods. I only leave my car on for very short stops or when I want the song to end and then turn off. The third and fourth ones... I also don't understand that. I also prefer parking as far from other vehicles because I heavily doubt my parking skills, especially after I once reverse smashed a Suzuki. I don't mind a few more steps, it's great workout anyways :)
As far as eating in the car goes, I know for me personally, three days a week I go from one eight-hour job to the next eight-hour job with 30 minutes or less in between and often times need to eat in between the jobs while in transit. Outside of that, I typically go in and eat or just take the food to where I am going.
I only eat in my car if it’s something I can eat with one hand and manage with one hand. Ie fries or a protein bar. Parking next to nice cars is a odd one ngl
1 and 2 were things i did when my job was landscaping 1: eat in the truck because it is cooler inside of it, and because you typically don't have time to sit down and eat somewhere. you have 30 lawns to mow and 2 days to do it, so you gotta be on the move 2: keeping the truck on during short lawns/going into a store quickly was common especially since we had a way to lock the door (spare key, key fob). much nicer to go into a nice cool truck after 20+ minutes in the 120 degree humid ass oklahoma summers. the rest i never did but old habits die hard
my theory for number 4, is possibly, but unlikely, the idea that if someone were to steal a car from the parking lot, theyd pick the nice one that youre parked to, instead of yours. cuz why would they steal a 500$ beater when theres a high-end mercedes-benz right there?
Because the benz has a better security system and is harder to steal, and that's before the possibility of trackers. A shitbox can be stolen in 30sec to 1min.
The very few times that I have parked with my hazards on in an actual road is when I'm picking someone up at a very specific train station near me that doesn't have a pickup zone. It does have a 2 lane road that you have to go through a neighborhood to get to right next to it that I use as a parking zone. It's very rare to see another car when I'm picking people up and I don't want to have them take the 5 minute walk over to the nearest parking spots to pick them up.
I like when cars that are related park next to each other, but otherwise I park where it's quieter. I don't want to park where nobody else is parking only to come back to find some grubby minivan parked right next to me. Keep at least a space free if possible so whoever leaves first can just swing out without slamming into the side of the other car or having to back out straight for half the reverse
I have another trait that might be seen as weird. If someone parked too close for comfort, I'll literally hold the part of my door that sticks out furthest with my fingers so that if my fingers make contact with the car next to me, I know that's as far as the door will go and try to slide myself in while still holding the door. So if you ever park next to me and find like 3 or 4 finger marks on your door, it's because I didn't want my door to touch it. I can't stand people that willingly lets their door bang against the neighbouring car
Speaking on number 2. I don't know about other places like Texas and Florida but where I live in Wyoming most people do it because it's freezing outside. Most people here know that if they turn there car off even for a few moments that all the time they spent warming the inside of their car will be negligible if they turn it off for a few moments. People are starting to go more towards remote starts and keyless fobs for that. My stepdad installs remote starts that if the key is not in the ignition and in the on position as soon as you put your foot on the brake the car turns off. Helps if people try to take off in your car. Can't put it in drive and steering is still locked. As soon as you put your key in and in the on position no problem.
If eating in your car is messy, I think it's just you that's messy. I've literally never made a mess in my car. Are you trying to eat a plate of soup in there or something? 😂
Number 4 annoys me to no end, and I drive a clapped V6 New Edge. But someone will literally go out of their way to park next to mine, when I'm literally at the other end of the parking lot with no other cars around me. It's like, leave me alone! Damn
I completely agree. I park in the back too, and I'll sometimes find a cool car to park by. There is always room to leave an empty stall between their car and mine.
I could see how it is annoying but at the same time people usually park near nicer cars for a couple of reasons like its easier to remember where they parked and usually owners of the nicer cars drive more carefully so the other car dosent have to worry about someone's 8 year old slamming a car door into theirs.
When I professionally detailed cars, one of the most satisfying parts was cleaning the steering wheel. The grease buildup from, natural oils/dead skin, oily foods, dirt/grime, and makeup, will coat the steering wheel, shifter, and knobs. It’s nasty, and seeing cars with major buildup wasn’t uncommon.
Only eaten in my mums car when i was little, and we took every so often a road trip to mt grandmas house. Which was waking up at 5am and arriving there at 8pm. And really couldnt stop in alot of places. Idk how my mum could drive for so long
I don't eat in my car a whole lot, but having late night taco bell, parked in front of the restaurant during a rainstorm, while the heaters are going and a yt video plays on my phone, is definitely a vibe.
Sonic really screwed up in NJ, NYC metro by building a typical car hop with no indoor dining room. They had to rip out 1/2 the car hops and expand the building to add a dining room.
Regarding eating in your car, it's mostly out of convenience. I sometimes need to do 2 hour droves to somewhere and I don't have the time to stop and eat inside, so I eat in my car. With that said, it also depends on the car. I might eat on a Nissan but I wouldn't eat on an Audi car.
i agree with everything you say here, especially eating in your car and ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY leaving my car running to go away from it. I hate eating in my car very much, I hate that idea of making my 1 really clean thing I own for pleasure, messy. side note - parking near nice cars is something I will do but I won't seek doing it like others, I only do it because I'm taking that spot because I know I won't damage some other car person's car so it is more about me protecting them with my somewhat nice car next to it rather than some crappy Jeep owner
I can't leave my truck on while I'm at a gas station. Not because of theft(good luck out running police when the top speed is 80mph) but my parking brake doesn't work
1. Because sometimes the car is more comfortable, safer, or more convenient than the seat outside or standing by a gas station in a shady area. How do you not understand that? 2. Because some cars, especially ones that have been sitting for a while, might not turn back on if you turn them off. How you do not understand that? 3. You literally explained it. How do you not understand that? 4. Parking next to a nice car is good for a quick picture, a nod or compliment to other car's owner, and provides a shared sense of community. How do you - of all people - not understand that? I think you just wanted to rant.
On the point of leaving the car running if you are just running inside some place, is winter in states where it gets stupid cold, I leave it running to let it keep warm.
I'm 100% with you on eating in your car. No way in hell would I eat in my car it gets your car dirty, and it's not even comfortable to eat all cramped like that.
As for the leaving your car on when you run into the gas station or into a store thing. That’s I think a decently popular up near Idaho, Washington, and Oregon too. I live in Boise, Idaho and whenever my dad and I go to the gas station. He always just runs in and leaves the car on. I honestly never understood it either.
I live in a busy urban area with limited to non-existent parking and do food delivery and ride-sharing, perfect example of having to use the "park anywhere" button. I use the hazards to indicate I'm stopped temporarily and so other drivers see I'm stopped and go around, also I recognize I'm a hazard being stopped where obvious parking isn't available. I don't block the flow of traffic.
1. eating in your car is good if youre on like a long road trip and just wanna be in and out of the resteraunt asap, its less of a laziness thing and more of an efficiency thing 3. owning an older car with older car issues ive ended up having to use my hazards quite a bit just because of issues with the car 4. i park near like enthusast-ish cars just because i wanna be parked next something cool, even if they might consider my car lame
I've been told some people park next to nicer cars as an attempt at theft-deterrence/prevention, with their reasoning being that a thief will try and break into the nicer car and ignore theirs.
As an Uber driver who has to stop in weird places I probably shouldn't at times, i absolutely activate my hazards. I try to find the safest and most convenient places to do so, but sometimes I'm limited in what I can do. But then i see so many Uber drivers who act like hazards aren't a thing and block traffic indiscriminately and I'm just like "you and I aren't the same."
i find the car running and hazards part hilarious because you would throw a fit in SF. doordash drivers will just stop in traffic put on their hazards and leave their car running when they drop off food. they will just park their cars in traffic with their hazards on waiting for the food turning four lanes of traffic into two lanes (one in each direction) it’s infuriating because it turns a 5 minute 1 mile drive into 15 minutes with all the traffic backed up
I will leave my car running to run into the gas station on my way to work for 2 reasons. 1. I'm in the midwest and it is often below freezing with feet of snow on the ground and still snowing. Leaving it running while quickly running in often helps the car to warm up, defrost, keeps the oil warm, gets the heater finally working, etc... Basically all the same reason why you go outside and start your car (or remote start if you have a non-stickshift car) 10-15 before you are ready to leave. 2. I now work literally 2 miles from work, with a gas station in between. Short trips where the car never gets up to temperature to burn off condensation etc is extremely hard on an engine. By leaving it running when I run into the gas station to grab breakfast int he morning, it allows the engine to fully heat cycle by the time I get to work. Also this is waaaay more common in cold and snowy climates than it ever was when I lived down south.
If you have a big/spacious enough car I totally understand eating in it. It's a big different when you have a nicer or smaller car. Good example is I used to eat in my old car (outback) because it had plenty of room. But I would never eat in my current car (Miata) because there isn't a whole lot of room and I don't want to get it dirty.
I don't normally keep my car on for fuel consumption reasons unless it's either really cold, or really hot outside where I need some accessories to work. I typically lock my car at all times even in a shop/garage because it's an extra layer of security. Something some people in my family don't seem to understand.
I don’t really think it’s necessary to leave the engine on in either situation. If it’s really cold out and you turn off the engine to leave your car for only a minute or two, the engine will still be warm enough to quickly heat up the car when you get back in (assuming it hasn’t been hours since the car was last driven). If it’s really hot out it’s probably better to just leave the windows cracked open.
I haven't driven yet so maybe eating in my car will be different, but one very vivid memory I have of really needing to eat in the car is when we got fast food and we're heading to a place to pick up stuff to put in the storage and didn't have a lot of time.
i live in the city of richmond, virginia, and it seems that there are multiple cars stolen each week all from an area where uber eats/doordash drivers pick food up while leaving their car unlocked & running when they go inside to pick up food
Parking next to nice cars, if I’m in my GTI and have the option to park next to another GTI or something I usually do. But if they go out of their way to not park next to other cars I won’t park next to them.
Ohhh
Now that's a 100 iq move right there
@@BladedAngel my theory is that she knew you liked cars(im assuming you also did back then) and she just wanted to park next to an exciting car for a kid :)
I have an idea : have 3 cars , a lambo and 2 corolla , park the lambo at an empty spot , wait for someone to park next to lambo and get inside the building
Move the lambo to the somewhere random but vague enough that they get confused. Box their car in with 2 corollas on either side.
Kind of good troll idea ?
@@BladedAngel My parents personally did this because they assume people with nice cars are more likely to take care when driving while other drivers are more likely to take care around said car to avoid damaging what they believe is an expensive car
Eating in your car is exclusively for when you are on break at work and want to eat in the sanctuary of your own space.
yeah I've been eating in my car on work break but I also have a really potent car deodorizer I leave in my toolbox for when I start to notice the smell

I can understand the wanting privacy at break. I'm still not messing up my Carbon Fiber though🤣
For number 4, one reason I've heard is that people with higher end cars are less likely to recklessly yank open their door and scrape up your car. Basically, by parking next to a more expensive car, the odds decrease that the owner of said car will end up damaging yours. Whether this is true or not is up for debate.
I do this all the time, but rather for that reason I do it because who's gonna try to steal my car when there's a way nicer car right beside it

@@ninjirealExactly!
If you park your shitbox next to a nice car it's less likely to get stolen. Also people with expensive cars are less likely gonna damage yours because they are afraid of damaging their own.
As a 1993 Ford Explorer driver I can 100% confirm this as true.
This makes some sense I guess. I do have a built in dashcam/security system so maybe other cars see parking near me as a Free Security system.
Am I the only one who thinks its rude to park next to a nice car when you drive a shitbox? Maybe I'm more self conscious than most, but I'm more concerned about the owner of the nice car being concerned that I'll be beating up their car with my POS. Judging by the responses, I feel sorry for people who have to park in public places with wheels that cost more than $100k
I can't imagine having to fend off the hordes of crapmobiles who insist on cuddling up next to a car that costs thousands just for an oil change.

I went to the store yesterday and the car that was parked there was still running. It urks me for some reason. I think it's a combination of theft, using gas that you don't need to (even if it's very little), and the fact that I can handle the extra 3 seconds it takes to restart the engine.

I oftentimes park next to nice cars for 3 reasons:
3. I always feel like my miata gets exited/happy whenever I park it next to nice cars (kinda stupid ik)
Edit: I just now realised that you actually mentioned the door part in your video
I'm sure they get excited when they see your Miata too.😂
Yip #1 is the exact reason why i park next to them people with new cars and nice cars tend to be more careful and concerned of their cars wellbeing😂

I drive an Alfa Romeo Giulia and tend to park out a little ways too. Once had a guy in a brand new M4 park next to me just as I was getting in my car.

When im in the middle of BFE (Bumfuck, Egypt), I'll leave mine idling when i go in somewhere. My starter is old, and i don't feel like getting stranded if its get up and go gets up and leaves. In the city, however, is a different story.

People leave them on in Phoenix for the exact opposite reason
in my country, when you're parked somewhere for a bit/somewhere we kinda arent supposed to, we put our indicator to the side we're stopped, so the people behind us know were stopped on this side, then we can jus switch the indicator to the other side when we're leaving
I eat in all my cars even my corvette when Im hungry IM GONNA EAT

In defense of idling. I drive for work and one of our vehicles is a large diesel box truck, diesels are designed to idle for extremely long periods of time. A lot of it depends on whether conditions and location; there's no way we'd leave the trucks running in a hood or a rich neighborhood because it's equally likely to get stolen or broken into in either place.
I’m guessing the car running one is for keeping the car cool, and the parking one is because people with nice cars don’t scratch yours
1 and 2 were things i did when my job was landscaping
1: eat in the truck because it is cooler inside of it, and because you typically don't have time to sit down and eat somewhere. you have 30 lawns to mow and 2 days to do it, so you gotta be on the move
2: keeping the truck on during short lawns/going into a store quickly was common especially since we had a way to lock the door (spare key, key fob). much nicer to go into a nice cool truck after 20+ minutes in the 120 degree humid ass oklahoma summers.
the rest i never did but old habits die hard
my theory for number 4, is possibly, but unlikely, the idea that if someone were to steal a car from the parking lot, theyd pick the nice one that youre parked to, instead of yours. cuz why would they steal a 500$ beater when theres a high-end mercedes-benz right there?
Because the Mercedes Benz owner is gonna want that back, and the Mercedes Benz is more unique.
Well, there is more owners of a beat up shitbox that need parts than people with an exclusive Mercedes-Benz
My family eats(more like has snacks like bread sticks) when on longer trips but never full size lunch
I snack too, usually jerky or anythign that has no crumbs. I should've clarified I don't literally stop and BUST OUT A FULL BLOWN MEAL LMAO
I don't understand it either lol
I absolutely hate eating in a car. Its messy, crammed and you constantly have to worry about not greasing down the seats
If eating in your car is messy, I think it's just you that's messy. I've literally never made a mess in my car. Are you trying to eat a plate of soup in there or something? 😂
Crammed is the one i relate to. Then again, Americans all own 7 seater fortresses.
You never eaten a nature's valley crunch bar? @@neauxmad1048
You just eat over your clothes and then hop out and brush it off your clothes?
Depends on the car, I eat in a 2010 mazda 3 all the time but I'd actively avoid doing it in an rs3 or something
Bro you are so right about eating in your car. I absolutely hate doing it and my girlfriend thinks I’m weird for it
The comments are already grilling me for it lmao.
I guess this is my sign to get over my break room anxiety at work
Good luck!
I would never eat in my car I hate getting grease and crumbs all over my seats and steering wheel that's disgusting
Yeah it's like eating doritos and then playing with a controller it's disgusting
I’ve never made my car Messier tbh. I can see the grease issue but usually one hand for wheel and one for eating.
I do leave my car on sometimes, but it’s locked and if you even try to pull the handle with the fob not on your person it’ll just cut off
I used to eat some things in the car when I was a kid but I stopped doing it because is kind of uncomfortable and cleaning crumbs is super annoying.
9:16 please never say that gain BROO 😂😂😂
1. eating in your car is good if youre on like a long road trip and just wanna be in and out of the resteraunt asap, its less of a laziness thing and more of an efficiency thing
3. owning an older car with older car issues ive ended up having to use my hazards quite a bit just because of issues with the car
4. i park near like enthusast-ish cars just because i wanna be parked next something cool, even if they might consider my car lame
Only time we ever eat in the car is on cross-country trips, and that's just snacks.
Never fails, you park 10 miles away only to return with someone parked next to you😂....mind blowing 🤯
Really been missing your content Bladed
I eat in my car when I'm rushing to work 😂
park next to a nice car so car thieves will be tempted to take the nice car instead of yours.
I haven't driven yet so maybe eating in my car will be different, but one very vivid memory I have of really needing to eat in the car is when we got fast food and we're heading to a place to pick up stuff to put in the storage and didn't have a lot of time.
5:10 Here in Germany we’re taught to set the blinker towards the side of the road when stopped in driving school
i live in the city of richmond, virginia, and it seems that there are multiple cars stolen each week all from an area where uber eats/doordash drivers pick food up while leaving their car unlocked & running when they go inside to pick up food
Parking next to nice cars, if I’m in my GTI and have the option to park next to another GTI or something I usually do. But if they go out of their way to not park next to other cars I won’t park next to them.
Issue number one and only, my truck is my office/meeting space/auditorium/ and part warehouse... Love your content
