The resistance expected the sovjet army to support their efforts, not knowing that they made a deal with an ally of Germany.
So while the resistance rose up to fight back against german suppression, throwing in all they've got, the sovjets just watched.
But what should've been a genius move to get rid of the problematic resistance all at once, instead rallied Poland behind its resistance, making the uprising somewhat successful.

This recording hits me in the gut as it's part of my history. My Polish father was 22 when the war broke out, he was just finishing his military service but had to go to war instead. He fought at places such as Tobruk and Monte Cassino, he was a phenomenal man, always my hero! He met my Italian mum in 1945 in Italy, they married in 1946 as he was still in the army and they were being sent to England, that's where they settled. My father finally managed to revisit Poland and his family in the early sixties, apparently his mum just hugged him, crying saying son where have you been all these years! I'm fiercely proud of both sides of my roots and how my dad, and my mum ( but that's a tale for another time,) endured some awful things fighting, as the saying goes, , For your freedom and ours. I miss them but I'm grateful to have had them. So proud !

      Co nam obca moc wydarła
      Szablą odbijemy."

Thank you for praising the Polish nation! By the way, this Poland's final message in this video was the result of the betrayal on Poland in 1939 by dishonorable allies. The Polish government believed that Poland was sufficiently armed to hold out long enough until the alliance contractually agreed massive attack of the British and French would quickly end the war in favor of the British, French and Poles. The Poles could not have guessed that they would be so disgraceful betrayed. The British and French declaration of war 1939 against Germany served only for saving face. The British and the French did not intend to keep to the contractual commitment and to attack massively in the west. They wanted to sacrifice Poland for peace with the Germans! They preferred to betray Poland instead of fighting. This was the continuation of British and French appeasement stupid politics of the 30s! The inaction of the French and British was the message to Germany: Be satisfied with Poland. Do not attack us behind the Maginot Line and in the British Isles. We do not attack Germany either! So most British bomber activity was the dropping of propaganda leaflets. Then also other disgraceful betrayals then followed this betrayal.
This betrayal on Poland in 1939 was not only dishonest, it was a military stupidity of truly monumental dimensions. The opportunity to fight a brief, localized war against Germany was therefore lost in September 1939. In hindsight, also lost were the opportunities to save millions of lives and to have prevented the creation of conditions that led to the Cold War. "I would rather blow up our railway tracks than take part in the invasion of Poland" said the Hungarian Prime Minister, Pál Teleki, replying to the German question about the possibility of invading Poland from Hungarian territory in 1939..... Months before Germany invaded Poland in September 1939, Teleki told Hitler that “for moral reasons [Hungary] sees no possibility of an armed aggression on Poland.” Just before the invasion, Hitler asked to use railroad lines in the part of eastern Czechoslovakia Hungary had seized to move German troops to the Polish border.
    Teleki refused the request..
His government also allowed several hundred thousand soldiers and civilians (including polish Jews) to take refuge in and transit through Hungary.... The Hungarians opened their borders after September 17, when Soviet Russia invaded the eastern parts of Poland. Warmly welcomed Polish refugees, soldiers, helping them reach France and join the recreated Polish Army.
Poland subsequently awarded Teleki the country’s Order of Merit, and a life-size sculpture of him was erected in Krakow last year...
This is courage, and this is help. Lending a helping hand at the worst time.

@@zz_8990 How should the cooperation work with the communists who wanted to export communism to all countries worldwide. The Soviets were the ideological enemies of the capitalists. An alliance was out of the question at that time. Neither did the Soviets trust the Poles, British and French, nor did the Poles, British and French trust the Soviets. Cooperation was impossible before the war and that was not only due to the West. For real? To trust Stalin?

@@ImranKhan1976 What is this nonsense about a hypothetical alliance of Poland and the Soviets? That was out of the question. The Soviets were Poland's enemy. The Poles were allied with the British and the French, which was quite sufficient for repelling both the Germans and the Soviets. The Poles could not have guessed that the British and French would act completely irrationally and would not attack massively, as previously agreed with Poland. This betrayal of Poland in 1939 was not only dishonest but it was also a military stupidity of truly monumental dimensions. The opportunity to fight a brief, localized war against Germany was therefore lost in September 1939. In hindsight, also lost were the opportunities to save millions of lives and to have prevented the creation of conditions that led to the Cold War. As General Ironside the Chief of the British General Staff stated in 1945, after much of Europe was in ruins and 50 million have died, "Militarily we should have gone all out against the German the minute Germans invaded Poland. ... We did not ... And so we missed the strategical advantage of the Germans being engaged in the East. We thought completely defensively and of ourselves.
The French, with British support in the West, were vastly superior to the Germans. The Germans would not stand a chance in the West if the French, with british support, would have attacked in massive full force as agreed with Poland. Because the Germans had in the West in 1939 only inferior reserves without tanks and hardly any air support. Part of the reserve was WITHOUT TRAINING! These reserves were civilians in uniform with no training! But it is mendaciously claimed that an attack in the West was not possible. But it's a lie that support of Poland was not possible. Claiming that the French and British did not have the capabilities and ability for a massive attack in the West is also a lie that is being spread. Or that the Germans were allegedly invincible. Because this is also a useful myth for British and French that the Germans were so strong that Poland with French and British had no chance to win. In reality the Germans were not at all prepared for a two-front war. The Germans had no chance in two-front war against Poland, French and British! The French and British would only have had to attack massively in the West as agreed and the war would have ended quickly with a victory for Poland, France and the British. Poles really could not have guessed that there would be this completely irrational betrayal!

A heartbraking message from a brave nation from their darkest hours. They had to fight against such giant enemies from both directions without a real chance to win or having support other than words from their allies. Unfortunately we hungarians could not help too much, but opened the common border for the refugees. We never forget our friendship. Greeting from Hungary!

The Hungarian Kingdom has a long historical friendship with Poland. When this record was made, beginning of Sept 1939 Hungary was not under german occupation. If you know the Middle European history, you also know that these 2 nations did not fight against each other in this war. On the contrary, tried to support the polish people.

On July 24, 1939, Hungarian Prime Minister Pál Teleki sent a cable to Hitler in which he refused to assist in the invasion of Poland, on the grounds of "moral" reasons. In early July, Teleki announced to his German ally that he would sooner blow up Hungarian railroads than make it possible to invade Poland in this way, adding that maintaining friendly relations with Warsaw was "a matter of honor" for Hungary. Hitler had many more reasons to be furious with his rebellious ally. On September 18, 1939, the Hungarians opened the border for Polish refugees, which was used by around 100,000. Poles, including Polish Jews.
