- This is a Motormouth first look at the all-new 2024 Lexus GX mid-size body on frame luxury SUV. The Lexus GX and Toyota 4Runner have been based on the same platform, will any of this new 2024 Lexus GX make it into the new Toyota 4Runner.
Lexus has not announced pricing or fuel economy but it will be available closer to the on-sale date sometime In 2024. The GX will be assembled at the Tahara plant in Japan.
One big change is to the exterior, it has a boxier, more rugged look and reminds me a little bit of the Land Rover Defender. The all-new 2024 Lexus GX comes with a power tailgate, a feature that was not offered in the previous model.
There are two new powertrain options available. The all-new 2024 Lexus GX will come standard with a twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The twin-turbo V6 produces an improved 349 horsepower out-performing the previous generations V8 with 301 horsepower and torque performance also improves to 479 lb-ft of torque. Towing capacity has increased to 8,000 pounds on select trims with a standard tow hitch.
There is a hybrid coming but it will be available at a later date, no details have been released on this powertrain.
Two models have been added to the all-new 2024 Lexus GX lineup, Overtrail and Overtrail+ with a host of features and specialized styling. The pictures are of the Earth coloured Overtrail+ model with a black roof. Overtrail grades feature 33” All-terrain tires wrapped around 18” wheels, black accented overfenders and a standard aluminum skid plate. Overtrail+ models will come standard with an exclusive seat design for optimal off-road comfort with available driver and front passenger massage seats and a driver power cushion extender. all-new 2024 Lexus GX Overtrail grades are available in a GX first colour combo of black NuLuxe and Olive Ultrasuede
accents or Chateau NuLuxe trimmed interior with Olive Ultrasuede accents.
The all-new 2024 Lexus GX has an all new lower, horizontal instrument panel that carries into the dash for a more simplified driver and passenger experience. There is a standard 14” touchscreen with Lexus
interface technology, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 12.3” digital driver display and physical dials for frequently used controls such as air conditioning and audio volume. The all-new 2024 Lexus GX comes standard with a 10-speaker premium sound system, available 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
Lexus says, there have been improvements to the seat comfort, seatback bolster and headrests. The front seat hip point to heel height has been extended by over an inch. The second row is available in two configurations, captain’s chairs or a 60:40 split bench seat with
room for up to 7-passengers depending on the configuration you choose.
A one-motion tumble system has been added for convenient access into the third row. Heated and ventilated front seats are standard with available second row seats. The third row is available in both manual and power seat configurations.
Never thought I'll see a reliable defender in my life.
Total Defender Vibe, great way for Lexus to go with the design language.
Right, now we do
Comparing it to a defender is an insult. it looks way better than a defender ever could, and is better in every measure possible
What an amazing redesign. The wait for the new GX is definitely worthy of the wait. Can't wait for the next 4Runner.
Same, looking forward to seeing the 4Runner when Toyota reveals it.
@@andreaspencer9813 Yes it is growing on me.
Let me preface that nobody really ever thought the GX was a ‘looker’. So this latest, by default, was bound to be refreshing. It definitely stands out now. Perhaps a little too industrial or ‘Overland’-ish for my tastes. But well done them! They are catapulting Lexus’s GX into the future. I don’t exactly know why, but it reminds me of a late ‘80s Toyota Land Cruiser (J60). Great work Lexus. Thanks for the video. (Nice filming!).
Thanks for watching, glad you liked the format of this First Look video.
I do. And the idea to filmIng the underside. Good idea.
It's really cool. Understated Luxury, I am in again! Will keep my forever Lexus GS F V8 however! Lexus take my money again.
Hi Everyone, hope you enjoyed our GX First Look! We wanted to add the measurements of the NEW GX compared to the previous model to show how much bigger this GX is. The new model is 4.94" longer, it offers 83.22" of width with the mirrors, previous model 74.2" without mirrors, the new model is 4" wider. It is over an inch taller and the wheelbase is 2.4" longer. Lexus says it will get an estimated combined 13.8L/100 km/17 MPG. These are not the official EPA numbers and may change. - Andrea
Thank you. Do you know the gas tank capacity?
Cool, still will fit in my garage. Nice Andrea!
Is this hybrid version?
Looks amazing. How funny is that Lexus and Mercedes build cars that look more like Defenders than Land Rover. I would pick the GX over Defender due to reliability. Great video.
I've watched since the beginning and it feels like Andrea has been here from the beginning. Best addition to the channel. You both compliment each other so much!
Yes Andrea rocks, longtime subscriber. Zak is OK too.
Toyota’s version of Defender ....LOVE IT
Same, I just love the look!
@@andreaspencer9813 It is getting my attention also. Lexus take my money! Longtime Lexus owner and fanboy.
Woweeeezoweee. It looks aggressive and I love it. Some Defender vibes for me. Thanks S&A!
Hearing made in Japan at the end was the icing on the cake for me! This thing is PERFECT IMO.
Great video guys. I love that boxy is coming back hard. This is a nice looking vehicle. Even the grille isn’t too obnoxious.
Your videos are always so well done. Great job
Thank you very much, we appreciate that, glad you enjoyed it!
That's why my '94 XJ40 looks so good. Because it's boxy.
Dumb question but I am curious...Can I use regular unleaded or do I have to use premium because of the turbos ? I would be using this vehicle for 1,200 mile round trips so it would make a difference.
Fantastic new design! I am very excited to see how much of this carries over to the new Toyota 4Runner!
Such a bold, rugged design. The wheels finally look big enough to fit the truck. Thanks- your reviews are the BEST!
Looks it might be worth the long wait for the new GX. It's a beauty.
This is gorgeous 😍 finally a reliable off-roader
Great vid guys , I am in for the GX. Wish I could pre-order. Headed to the LEX dealer this week to get more info.
I think it’s absolutely beautiful. I love it. Can’t wait to get mine. I love the way you guys deliver the information. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
I wish I could afford one. This thing must be a bullet proof like the older one. Soon, the older style will drop the price even more and I will get one, used, low miles, dealer cert. A car for life, like no other in the world. Lexus = Ultimate machine. So many people own the GX and the amount of miles they do is insane with barley touching the engine.
The Japanese G-wagon
Yeah, but it works.
Yup! Definitely😉👍🏾
@Charlie Wouldn’t that be the LX?
Totally not and I’m a big fan of LEXUS
@@nickolastiguanlx is the 600 maybahhhh
Can’t wait for the 4 Runner
What a couple. As always, great reviews. Thank you
Subs approaching 300k!!! Great job Andrea ... and Zack btw 😂
Thank you so much!
This is the best and most thorough review of this car that I have seen yet! Great job. I always love the content that y'all put out.
Thank you so much, we appreciate that!
Aww! What a lovely couple! They are car enthusiasts
Love the new look. Reminds me of an early 90’s Land Cruiser. I can’t wait for you to post a driving review of the car. Will be hard to choose between this and the TX
What beautiful vehicles ….going to start saving
Great review
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, that looks great. I’ll never get one, but it gives me that vibe of a one of those 90s Toyota SUVs that have a niche following 30 years later.
Gorgeous legs and a great review of the much needed redesigned GX....Love the G-Wagon vibe it gives....
"No more boring cars" they definitely meant that!
Except the Lexus TX. That thing is an upcoming sales failure.
For me this is definitely inspired by Toyota's Land Cruisers. Take a look at the 1990s and earlier versions and that's what I see. This vehicle looks great! Just like the 1995 Land Cruisers. IMO.
It's pretty until you see the price tag.. 100k with a 25k markup, keep your GX!!!!!!
This REALLY gets me excited for the new 4runner!
Same!
Wow this is amazing. Never thought i would say Toyota hit a home run for designs!
That numeric presentation and the way you walked out from behind the car was just awesome. Great job motormouth!!! To lexus as well, just simply amazing 👏 😍
I think the new GX looks great. I think it's a big visual improvement over the last generation, and listening to this video it seems to have some good interior goodies as well. It looks like a Land Rover but "hopefully" has the reliably of Lexus which should make it a smash hit!
100%
It seems to me this might be the Land Cruiser that comes back to North America, or maybe a GR 4Runner version with a front locker.
We have a 2017 GX, love this new design. I am intrigued about the hybrid powertrain since the fuel economy on this 6 cylinder model is not great
It will also give us an insight of what the next Toyota Prado should look like.
In the Middle East, Toyota Prado shares the same platform with The GX.
Great video guys! What a sharp looking SUV and so boxy ai love it. Wow! Also Andrea you look beautiful as always and so classy and have such a unique flare about you. Keep up the awesome video guys.
Awe thank you so much!
As a current Lexus owner I can say with confidence, I'm get'n one as soon as it's available. Came really close to buying a Land Rover. Love those. But I don't relish all the problems you get with the Rover. Might not be as plush as the Rover but fewer issues.
Amazing design, new features, new engine, I like it, compared big brother LX600
This beautiful and a much need re-design of the Lexus GX. Amazing video so far Andrea and Zack!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Needs a direct comparison with the 4Runner.
Rear locking diff, essential for off-roading, is only available in the top trims. Seems silly.
This lexus interior layout looks great, NX/RX should follow suit
RX is there! Drove a 2023 the other day….Good land that thing was sweet. I actually like it’s interior better than what we’re seeing in the TX. This Gx is quite similar. The RX seemed more luxury. Not having sat in the GX, I can only go but what I’m seeing. I had the RX for a weekend. Best thing I’ve ever driven.
Automatically my lottery winner truck
I see some new 4runner in this design for sure looks fantastic.
I think it looks great too!
There’s no 4Runner in this design
Not a single line
I see the Land Cruiser Prado and fortuner. Everyone gets those except North America. I’d import the Lexus only if it came with a diesel like the fortuner and Prado
Absolutely love the design.
I feel the same way, glad Lexus went in this direction.
Looks like a smaller Land Cruiser,I like it 👍🏻
It does have strong Defender vibes. I do like the rugged look though.
Thanks for the good detailed review!! I really wanted to know that they have lighter/beige colour seats as I don’t like black seats since they get very hot
Lots of interior colours to choose from on this model which is great.
WoW 😮❤I Like it 😊 Awesome Video 📸
Thanks for watching, glad you liked the video.
Lexas in Texas!
This basically the new land cruiser Prado right? Seems this is more of a preview of Prado over 4runner?
Correct
a little bit old-fashioned design looks like:) love it. Not talking to buy it 😂
This actually looks legit
It looks amazing!
I think they hit a home run with this design.
Yes for sure. Will be VERY hard to get the first year guys.
This is a great looking car! I noticed that they did not switch to the new push button interior door handles like the NX and RX. Think Lexus will do away with the push button door handles?
Andrea you guys should get one :) and be a lexus fan too now lol
It looks pretty cool!
Are the non-offroad specs good city cars? Akin to Range Rovers?
5:54 next to the centre left HVAC vent is that a trailer brake controler?
Any ambient lighting available on the new GX?
Do you have any measurements or thoughts on the third row? I love this new design but need it to be a usable third row with adequate space when the seat is folded down.
I don’t get why they won’t offer the third row in the Overtrail model. Make it an option, and ideally removable!
This vehicle looks like a truck and similar to other off road vehicles. I like that 14 inch touchscreen and it’s looks huge! Awesome video Andrea! ☕️☕️ P.S. Don’t worry about the air conditioning noise, I have a Close caption on. 😉
Oh good! It's so hot here, they wanted to keep the AC going.
@@andreaspencer9813 I can image that my friend.
Hawaii
Austin
Wow…hope ya getting points too
will it come with panoramic sunroof??
Can you please do a video on how comfortable the seats and suspension are on these new cars? I got my BBL and it cost $7k. Obviously I need to protect my investment in my cheeks so any information would be great. Thanks!
Love it all except for the rear end. Tail lights just doesnt fit I think.
I’ve been waiting for Lexus to make this a man’s SUV! Built in Japan is a plus. The new Tacoma Trailhunter is one consideration I have, but I’m also a reserve holder for the Grenadier…. But at $80,000 before extras, the Lexus looks like it may just fit the bill for price and functionality for my over landing future.
Good preview of the new Lexus GX, finally it looks like a proper body on frame SUV. As far the exterior design, I don’t this GX looks like a Land Rover Defender at all.. This GX is more of a perfect reminiscence of the Lexus 80 series from the 90s. Well done Toyota!
I can't wait for the new 4Runner.
Fantastic first look around video of this Lexus GX looks very land-rover as Zack says!
Glad you enjoyed it. It has such a Defender vibe to it, I like the look.
@Andrea Spencer Most certainly liked it and will be good to see you review it on the road!
Without the 3rd row there’s a lot of room for some backseat action
It looks great
Cameras now have *"follow me mode"* big time now plus dirt cheap mic 🎙️🎙️🎙️ set ups now so if you're looking to up your presentation game insta360 3.0 great hint at what is en route and can be had right now
and no Piano Black around the center console/controls!!! I was starting to think it was some government requirement that you had to have it in your car with so many automakers using it.
I don't like it either. Surprised to see Mercedes-Benz using quite a bit of it in their EQ models.
Well done, Lexus--an upgrade worth waiting for, it seems, looks great inside and out. I am so glad they made it look a bit tougher, as it seems it has some Land Rover design elements as far as the boxiness goes. Looks are subjective, of course, but I think it looks awesome--hope at least some of these design cues will make it over to the new 4Runner. Phones will be ringing off the hook at Lexus dealerships in the morning with people getting line to put a deposit down on one. Great review, Zach and Andrea--right to the point and telling us exactly what we need to know!
If the new 4Runner doesn't offer the Tundra's iForce Max or the new Lexus GX's twin turbo V6, then I'm going to be upgrading to a Lexus. (Massage seats and active lane-keeping assist definitely sweeten the deal when I think about the yearly 10+ hour interstate drives during summer vacations.)
The GX will sell well as the Prado. Looks good
Looks nice. Do they have a 2-door?
I LOVE IT
Dose it have air suspension?
Cool car!
That thing will be SSSOOOOOoooo expensive.
I think it looks like a baby Land Cruiser which I heard will be returning to North America this year. So, I reckon the 4Runner will be even more utilitarian when I comes out later this year.... Thanks for most excellent reviews!
Thanks for watching!
Love it! Hopefully a peasant such as myself can afford one when they hit the showrooms
This so far is the best of the redesigns by Toyota of their body on frame vehicles.
Looks like the third row seats still can't be stowed away.
So I'm super confused! How does the Toyota 4Runner *and* a Toyota Land Cruiser fit into their product line? If the 4Runner will be based on these underpinnings, I guess the Land Cruiser could be a fancy 4Runner with a Land Cruiser badge? Or... ?
It’s a lot boxier than I expected, as a current 2017 GX owner It’s a lot different!
the "current 2017 GX" looks awful!
From the side it really reminds me of my 4Runner actually.🤔
Great. Setting my eye on an over trail plus
it is what I am waiting for, I don't like twin turbo because it has some issue with Tundra twin turbo so will see what's next for 4runner?
What is the issue? Do the twin turbos break down?
Great review. What a beautiful machine!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Twin Turbo as reliable as the V8?
When will there be a Full drive review Of the new Lexus GX????
Not sure, I am thinking maybe in the fall.
I hate that they got rid of the V-8, but I gotta sway, I'm loving the look.
Air suspension?
What is the standard engine?
