I love this kind of hire.Hetherman is an overnight success 15 years in the making. This guy has been grinding for 15 years, he’s not just a guy who started at D1 and then ran up the ranks
Dono good job keeping us informed. I hope that Radakovich had a hand on this very important coaching hire, and that this DC brings position coaches to implement his defensive philosophy, and as Mario is concerned a great recruiter and hopefully he would be a good cheerleader for the team that he represents and allow both Coordinators to do the job he hired them for!
I like the hire! Time will tell! It’s good that the new DC will get to hire a few of his guys too! Mesidor is back, NICE!!!!! Wow all but 1 recruit enrolled early that is amazing!!
This is a fabulous hire from what I'm seeing so far. An experienced guy that has climbed the ladder and earned every position. Also this is a guy that brings energy. Let's Go Canes!
Love the hat Alex. !! great job. We’ve been waiting for YOUR post. Watching you while The U is on ESPN’s 30-30 at the same time. 😂. . I fricking love The Hurricanes !!
If I remember our DC that we just fired had a top 10 defense at Marshall before he came here. Al Golden did great at Temple prior to Miami. Success at one place doesn’t necessarily mean success at another place. We have to hope a see.
Sunday special episode - U R the man Donno. Check out the defensive stats (run, pass, total yards allowed) for Miami-VaTech and Minn-VaTech (recent bowl game)... I'm pumped!
UM Defensive Coordinator Corey Heatherman runs a 4-3-4, 4 defensive linemen, 4 linebackers 4 defensive backs had a great defensive play vs Penn State, Iowa, Michigan, USC
I watched the highlights too. I tend to agree with you. 👍. Orange and Green. I liked what I saw though. They were in the right position all the time ..
@@MS79Canesfan Oh man. I didn't understand your first comment was referring to Oregon and not Miami. My bad. Yeah man. The Ducks got trounced by OSU. Oregon's D looked worse than ours in that game.
I think the hire was good. He's obviously a good coach, holding very good teams to under 30 points. They held VT to 10, UNC to 17.....he may be a coach that can coach up 2-3 star players and have them playing like 4-5 stars. So coming to Miami with much better talent, you have to like the potential. No one knows, of course, but everyone expected Steele to make Miami a monster on defense and that didn't work out, so it's not just about experience.
Well, Minnesota's defense with a national recruiting ranking of 35th in 2024 held VT to 10 points in the Bowl game. 2023 they were like 45 th. Its not like they are getting the same quality players as our UM.
The only sure things are taxes and death -- everything else is a gamble. I trust that CMC and his staff did their homework and decided that Mr. Hetherman is the best available solution to our woeful defensive play. From where I sit, the future looks pretty darn good for UM.
He’s a younger man which should help with relating to college kids. His linebacker experience will also help. Both the DL and LB crew underperformed last season.
Kids don’t really care anymore. It’s all about highest bidder. Look at all our secondary additions we’ve had without even having a DC and all those kids don’t even know who their DB coach will be either. $$$
I hope this year we don't drop the ball with Elijah Lofton like we did with Breshatd Smith. Elijah better be used all over the field if Dawson is Smart. You have a tight end that can play running back. Creative Passes to Lofton coming out the back field should be at a premium. Loften in the slot. Lofton everywhere please
If we can just line up correctly, have guys flying to the ball for gang tackles and play disciplined up front without all the stunts we will already be 10x better on Defense. If he starts with the basics similar to what manny did in 2016 we will play good.
Comparison style of defense, when looking at the NFL look at Buffalo Young innovative mind, we will see how it works out because it's about relationships, teaching, and patience ! By going with a young coach
The numbers look promising, coaches are always rising and falling in the ranks you have to find new blood every year! I can’t imagine he can could do any worse than Guidry! Last season’s defense looked so confused, couldn’t tackle, and gave up yardage and points so fast it was frustrating to watch!
Donno 🤷: It will be Mind Blowing 🤯 if Corey Brings with him Koi Parich com in with him From Minnesota. Imagine Koi Parich & Xavier Lucas added to Miami Secondary? It’s a Cavinder Twin Dry dream 😴!!
I think we’re lucky, up-and-coming and he has the stats that he has at Minnesota? Plus you’ll stand on the sideline looking like a beast and he probably gets those kids bought in hook line and sinker.
I don’t think Hetherman is The Risk. I am more concerned with the attitude; the commitment; the discipline; and the desire of the players to win. Hetherman has already proven himself. These players have not proven themselves.
Anything is better then Guidry!!! But new DC running a top 10 defense last year is definitely an upside. I just hope he adjusts to offensive schemes that Guidry was horrible at
Sorry I should add he has a lot of ties to Polynesian players but Hawaii has a special tie with Bishop Gorman so I hope he can help Miami continue that pipeline. Hawaii has Chris Brown as their LB coach and he was at Gorman for a while so the ties are strong. Keiki has been able to create ties there too.
I dont know if Zaqun Patterson is the guy at safety. I know he was only a true freshman bad he's lost in coverage.. He's solid as a tackler.. Corey Parrish freshman safety from Minnesota
Doesn't seem like a gamble at all. He turned a defense around in a single season. We should be really happy about this. Ge the right person, not the person that checks some random boxes.
It's all good until the Def is felt to blame for a loss then this podcast bruce and fans will be casting shade and doubt maybe Hate in his direction..can't wait for the never satisfied/ good enough people to show up..

Hands down 🙌🏿

He’s him
No question 💯
Donno , you are by far the most optimistic individual I have ever seen .
Yeah you see it I see it to much. Miami will continue to disappoint. Donno optimism

@@user78738he’s going to be so sick. He will be 100 this year
GLAD TO SEE THINGS FINALLY GETTING PUT TOGETHER
Tackling is the key
Tackling is very important , but don't forget communication. There were too many opposing players open with no cover last year..
It's tackling, being coached, and knowing your assignment on the field.
Go Canes! This DC did miracles with limited talent at Minnesota!
And angles... and proper communication, and lane discipline...
Nah play calling is key. If youre slanting the whole line taking a gamble and the other team runs the other way who is that on?
I think the hire is a good move, but we'll find out for sure once the games are played.
It can't get worst than last year..lol
It will they don't have a chance to be better until they get players that no the culture
Bring that DB coach and safety with you.
Well as long as he can coach the players up and have them execute and adjust in game I’m good, specially with the talent we have
The cons with this guy short term play calling and not an elite recruiter doesn't bother me at all, still an home run hire
I want to see what Chance Robinson can do when healthy.
Hetherman was on my list weeks ago. Great hire and an excellent coach.
This is a fabulous hire from what I'm seeing so far. An experienced guy that has climbed the ladder and earned every position. Also this is a guy that brings energy. Let's Go Canes!

This seems like a very good pick. Seen film on Penn state game and runs a good defense , believing in fundamentals. Let's go Canes
Thats 12 players
Looks like a good hire from the track record and is a younger guy with that passion and fire up coach from the interviews the I watched.
Not a risky pickup. Minnesota defense was legit and he came under Schiano. Hopefully he's here for a few years.
I love up and coming coaches, this is an amazing hire

Not sure about the DC thought he might have brought in a bigger name but I guess a plus is he will probably be here for more then one season.
What bigger name
Went that route with steele and strong

He has alot of experience on the defensive side of the ball Donno. Grinded & worked his way up. A Schiano endorsement is a major plus.
Any updates?
I like the hire I keep doing the research man I would not be surprised if this dude is a head coach some day
Results are what counts the new DC has a good history of doing well
Ok Mario gets an upgrade to Super Mario. Great hire.
Minnesota's head coach P J is a great coach. Does a lot with limited resources at Minnesota.
Yeah I like him
DL coach , from Minnesota with him
Alex, the U should let you do the “Welcome to Da U”, for home games. That would be AWESOME!!!
Why when receivers are mentioned nobody mentions Chance Robinson

Alex, this DC looks menacing. I doubt defensive players are going to want to come to the sidelines with a screw up!
It can't get worse....but I'm a show me guy, even though I'm not from Missouri
Now we talking
Is Xavier Lucas still in the mix?
Secondary deff needs to b a MASSIVE FOCUS!! We don't need as big of a turn around as sotas D year 1.. our offense will do enuff
I love a young, fresh mind,so this hire will be great. I suspect he will be a hot coach that other schools will want as a head coach.
Yes we are spoiled the Canes do know how to keep us engaged with all this moves and you know what,I like it!Go Canes.
Maybe this will be the end to the pre snap confusion.
Donno, with so much hoopla, the Jack Nickel TE acquisition has gone under the radar. He seems like a blocking TE from what I've gathered.
He’s a younger man which should help with relating to college kids. His linebacker experience will also help. Both the DL and LB crew underperformed last season.
Wait! 🤔 Herberts best years ever have been under Mario? Nah can’t be, I was told by 2-10 twitter that Mario is a “QB killer” 🙄
If Day departs OSU after the championship game is it possible Smith comes home? It’s a question.
Need to add one more DT that is big, a LB and another DB. On oh, one more big WR.
I wonder if the Beck commitment would have influenced Zachariah Branch to commit?

Is it the coaching? Lance Guidry came to Miami with a statistically good resume. His defenses (prior to Miami) were top 10-15? I'm just asking.
Carson beck would have a better offensive line in front of him.

As long as Mario can contain the momentum in Florida he has a chance. No reason the seminoles or gators have better recruiting and seasons over us.
Every hire to any job is a gamble. Look at Nick Sabin and the Dolphins.
The defensive coordinator is a good higher first of all coach is a is a high risk or low risk
