  • Guild brings its iconic Starfire single-cut archtop body to bear on a slick new performance platform: the Newark St. Starfire I Jet 90. The 6-in-line headstock and triple Franz P-90 pickups give the Jet 90 a mean modern rock aesthetic. Sam Bell reviews.

He says the neck pickup at 2:07 but he's on the 6 position which is neck + bridge. He appears to not have looked at the pickup position diagram on the Guild page for this guitar. Sounds like at the beginning he also has the tone muffled rather than fully open - I can tell because I have this guitar and it's brighter sounding than that. Alnico 2 magnet P90's that are directly attached to the center block. Also he calls it a "hollow body" but it's actually a semi-hollow with center block.

"I could have Googled the selector switch positions, but instead I'll just guess which pickup I'm playing through each time."

At 2:33 you are playing both the neck & bridge pickup combination, at position 6 on your Guild. I have it in Black & I love it.

is there a chart anywhere that lays out what the combinations are? it sucks being interested in this axe with how little info on this exact factor can be found.

@@DanielBoonelight Yes, go to the Guild web site and drilldown to find the Guitar and there is a diagram of the switch setup.
      But see if this helps: Pickup Switch 1. Bridge - 2. Bridge & Middle - 3. Middle - 4. Middle & Neck - 5. Neck - 6. Neck & bridge
FYI switch # 6 is at 1 O'clock and switch #1 is at 7 O'clock. Hope this helps. Buy the way this is a superb Guitar. Get it & you will not be sorry.

@@jamescashin288 Just like the guy doing this review should have done (or just touch the pickups with a piece of metal to know what is what and not make an ass out of yourself when you're probably being paid in some way or another to make a review).

Yep. Play a load of muted notes. That’ll help us understand how it sounds.

Yep I hope that tone was on totally muted at the beginning because I didn't hear much of a clean tone here.

I am loving this guitar. I think I might get one! I have a Guild S100 from the 70s (though these days "Guild" is more brand than actual company).

I’m sorry but this is the worst review of a guitar I’ve ever seen by a supposedly professional organisation. This is described as having 22 frets, it’s got 20. It’s described as hollow body when it’s actually semi hollow and you basically guessed what the pickup selector did! I’ve not seen this level of incompetence outside of a Tory Cabinet.

He dose talk about a block threw it.... so I think he realizes it's semi-hollow.
No clue about the pickup selector like you mentioned LOL
Although at last he said bridge and actually was using the bridge.

It doesn't sound so "warm" but just too Fuzzy and whit closed tones. Usually, P90 sounds more clear and bright. But maybe it only this video. ( I've listen it with Pro studio Monitors and headphones too )

Keep in mind he was using that two notes c.a.b. m cabinet emulator pedal. There is no way to know how he had that set up. Toward the end he was running a plexi pedal in front of that and then he said he had all his boost pedals on at the very end. I think that muted hairy sound is just what he was trying to get out of it. I am sure the p90's sound clear and lively without all those effects pushing them. I am going to listen to some more playing to hear some clean tones.

He had the tone knob muted here. It was very obvious to me as I own this guitar and it’s much brighter than it sounded in this video. Watch some of the other videos like RJ Ronquillo.

annoyed that i watched as much of this as i did, y'all should take it down. at least look at the spec sheet of the guitar before you pretend to review it
