Warwick Half Marathon 2024 - in search of YouTubers - Course PB?

- Welcome to my 3rd Warwick Half Marathon Race video. This year I aim to spot as many familiar faces in a crowd of over 2000 runners and also push my luck in going for a course pb. If you’ve ran Warwick before, you may know it’s not the flattest of races but it’s always a good tester for the start of the year. Find out how I get on.
Here are the links all the RUclipsrs that were at Warwick

I love this who's who of running RUclipsrs 😊 Well done, Rachel.
Thanks Mark, there’s definitely a high concentration of us in this area 😁 Chances are, I’ll bump in to at least one on a local race.
Great running Rachel, you make it look easy. And now we know, MARM has a stunt double!
Thanks Clare! I have the ability to manage a few words to camera then when I switch it off, that’s when I get back to the harder work 😁
Yep, if the MARM needs any dangerous action shots, we know who can stand in for him 🤣
Great video Rachel. Well done on your run and Rory too. Thanks for the name mention 👍
Really enjoyed my second half marathon! I was a bit distracted with knee pain after about 4 miles which got worse, so I did not really notice the bumps and the windy conditions! 😝
Running most of the way with John Legge also helped (and finding a bit of speed at the end!). I won't leave it 27 years next time.
Well done on your race Ian. Having spoke to you at parkrun the day before, you did brilliant after you’d said how you were unsure how the knee would hold out.
For all the times I’ve run at Warwick, it’s still a route I don’t know completely. I know the main sections but there’s parts I still think ‘oh, never seen that bit before’ 😁
Hope the knee is feeling better now? I’ve had problems with my knees in the past, usually due to doing too many miles too soon. Touch wood, they’ve been fine for a good few years now though. My weakness is definitely my calfs. I have to be so careful if I feel any sign of an injury coming back.
If you’re ever looking for a fast half, I’ll always recommend Derby. Great event and course and most flat. That’s in June so a nice one for the middle of the year 😊
Thanks @@racheld1844 knee is not too bad thanks.
Probably too many miles too quickly leading up to Warwick, so eased it back a bit. But it is very difficult to ease back when you discover you are a runner - hence doing the AVPR route Tuesday and Thursday last week before the club runs 😛🤣
Great video and great running Rachel. I enjoyed Warwick although hills and headwinds were not my friends that Sunday!
Thanks Andrew. Glad you enjoyed Warwick. As hard as the hills and headwind were, we were lucky with the winter whether 😁
2 of mt favourite RUclipsrs! You and Andy! Brilliant 😊😊
It was great to all be at the same race (and find each other in the crowds) 😁
Great stuff, Rachel. Super to see you racing again. Lovely vid and nice to see/hear other RUclipsrs
I have a half marathon in 2 weeks and I think my race this year will be a similar comparison to yours this year and last.
Nice one!!!
Thanks Neil. Yeah, last yeah was almost the perfect year run wise. Not sure I’ll be hitting those same times again this year (or ever) but I still train in hope that I might get that magic again.
Good luck with your half! I hope it’s not a similar elevation to Warwick. I think any more hills and it might be classed as a trail run 😁
Congratulations Rachel on a really good, solid run. Looked like a fantastic event to do and a great social meet up as well.
Congratulations also to Rory. 2seconds- so unlucky but a great run nonetheless.
Thanks Colin. It was a great day meeting up with everyone. My legs definitely felt weaker going up the hills this year though. I got that burning feeling, which is unusual for me. On the positive side I was happy to get the pace down when back on the flats and downs. I’m back on to regular weights again, but haven’t built up enough strength to see those hills become a little easier…. Luckily, Newport is flat 😁
A great video there, thank you so much for the mention, it was great meeting you 🎉 well done on your times, it was a tough one 🙌
Thanks! It took ages for me to get the footage off the camera, not sure why it was playing up, but finally got the video done 😁 Hope your marathon training is still going well. Looking forward to more updates soon 😊
@@racheld1844 thank you so much ☺️🙌
Well done Rachel and brilliant run from Rory also! Good to see a gaggle of RUclipsrs there also!
Thanks Donato. It was a shame you weren’t there this year. You and Brett were 2 that would have been good to see as part of the team 😁
@@racheld1844 maybe next year!
Well done guys - fantastic times for that course. Loved the music building suspense in between each mile too!
Thanks Richard. Choosing music is one of the hardest bits when I edit. There’s so many tracks out there, but I can spend ages wondering which one to go for 😁… should just stick to running really. Far more simple 😂
@@racheld1844 haha, the life of a content creator, eh? :D
Great video Rachel. I may have to perfect a midlands accent as I’ve fully entered the sphere of Midlands based running You-tubers.😂
Just say Kipper Tie and you’ll be understood if you wanted a brew 🤣
I’ll keep the translations up on screen, my voice is either drowned out by the wind or my words are mispronounced as I’m trying to race and talk at the same time 😛
Wouldn't have known the course if it wasn't for your videos 😅 thankyou
Thanks! I can’t believe I’ve filmed this race 3 times 😁 It’s been fun seeing everyone else’s videos as well 😊
Great work Rachel! 😊
Thanks Freddy! 😁
Thank you so much for the mention!!! ❤️ Well done again on the race! 👏🏼
You’re welcome Laura. It was good to see you again. Hope your training is still going well. Maybe next year you’ll be lined up at Warwick 😁
Bloody great video. Loved this. And im super proud that i made your video. Was a great day and top running as usual. Much easier cheering you all on 😂😂
I think you had the best option being a spectator 🤣 It was great to meet everyone that day. I’ve met Andy and Laura a few times but everyone else was a first meeting (although inadvertently missed Jenna at the waffle shop a few weeks back 😁)
Looked like a tough run. I bet Rory was desperate to chase you down. Good incentives for both of you.
Thanks both. I think I only got the advantage in the first mile or so and then the gap stayed the same. Andy started a bit in front of us but I probably went a bit too quick to catch him. That’s why I was so out of breath in the first mile. Rory said he hadn’t known how close he was to his pb, he could have broken it if knew at the time. Stick him on a flat course, I’m sure he could do it 😊
@@racheld1844 is there another half on the horizon?
Nothing planned really. If I do a half, it wouldn’t be till later in the year. All eyes on Newport now 😊
Well done on holding the record! You absolutely fly…Respect
Not quite the course pb I wishfully hoped for, but more than happy with how it turned out 😁
Lovely video Rachel
Thanks Conrad, glad you enjoyed it 😊
Fantastic video!
Hi, thank you! 😊
Great video and great running! Thanks for the mention ❤
Thanks Gary. Hopefully I can catch you in a future video 😁
Get those calories in! Good honest effort as usual 👏.
Thanks! It’s unusual for me to eat much after a race, my tummy normally says no, but luckily it was a welcome refuel 😁
I am looking at it as it on a Saturday
Ah, I didn’t realise it was so soon. If there are spaces and your are considering it, I’d definitely say go for it!
Is it worth doing and is flat. Well done on a great time at Warwick
Great video as usual Rachel. Loved to see you meet up with all the other RUclipsrs. Quite a little community. Well done on the race time, not that much slower than last year and (dare I say it) you are a year older! That food at the end looked good, hope you and Rory enjoyed the meal. Good luck with the rest of your training.
Thanks Peter. Yes, a year older is always another reason I’m still really happy with my time. Last year was my best ever for running but at some point it’ll peak. I’m not sure how many more blocks of winter marathon training I want to do. Things we have planned for later this year are exciting me more and I see this part as a stepping stone to get there. Next year I’ll have to choose which direction I want to take my running. Too many choices 😊
Hope you’re keeping dry and upright on your trail runs at the moment.
Great time Rachel! What I wouldn't give to run at sea level again. One thing I've learned is to never compare last year with this year during a race. The conditions are always different -- your training is different, the weather is different, etc. I would get so frustrated knowing that I had run 7:00 min / mile last year and was only running 7:08 this year. I usually use last year's time as a barometer of how easy the course is. I remember watching Raley's Adventures video a week or so ago and seeing you in it and it was nice to see a lot of familiar RUclipsrs. Looks like you had a fantastic race time though and I think you are set for a really good race spring season. Las Vegas Half Marathon for me next weekend -- will be a giant race -- usually 20K runners.
Thanks Eddie. I hadn’t realised you were at altitude, you’d have a great race being lower at sea level. 20k is a pretty big field of runners. I think 2k is the biggest I’ve run in. Running in Las Vegas must be an awesome experience. Hope you have a good race. With the events you’ve already done this year so far, I’m sure you’ll do great.
I didn’t mind the slight lower pace tbh. Obviously, like anyone else, I’d like to have run faster than before but I knew in the back of my head I’d be slower. It’s only a fraction in the big picture and as I’ve not done any of the longer/harder Sunday sessions yet, I wasn’t fully prepared for a fast half. The first big session is tomorrow which is 10 easy, 7@ marathon pace and 1 easy. That session was already in my legs last year, plus 2 weeks of higher mileage. Hopefully it’ll all start to improve but either way, I’m still on a big high from all my times last year 😊
@@racheld1844 yup I am excited for Vegas. Usually I do that race just for the experience but I'll be trying to race it this year if the weather is right. And yeah I live and train at about 4500 feet elevation. The halves I have done this year are around 2500 feet. It definitely makes a difference. Can't wait for your next adventure
Looks like this event was a running RUclipsrs' convention 😂I love how you manage to talk whilst running fast, it feels like I'm experiencing your race in real time! Congrats to you and Rory, great running on a not-so flat course! Have you planned to do other races before the marathon?
It was great to meet up with everyone. It was so busy, we could have easily missed each other. Talking and running isn’t too bad. I’ve missed a few races and didn’t film them and it was so weird not have the camera with me. Its definitely helped having the new insta with a fresh battery. I don’t have to worry about it giving up half way through the race which is the biggest bonus 😁
No, no more races pre marathon. I used to do a few but the training plan is so intense that I’m happy with the training doing the hard work. Plus, I just take so long to recover from them that it puts me out for too long after. Perks of getting older 🤣
I think I'm following too many running youtubers, recognize them all 😂
@@MrSmokedTurkey the midlands has a high concentration of RUclipsrs for sure 😁
Great video and well ran on a tough course 👏. It was Paul not John 👍😊
Ah sorry Paul 🤦🏻♀️ I asked you twice and still didn’t remember. It was nice talking to you after the race. Hope your training is going well after running Warwick 😊
No worries. Enjoy all the videos. Keep them coming. Parkrun tomorrow at Brueton and maybe another half marathon soon
@@paulwilliams3585 - hopefully no wrong turns like Tim last week 😁
Phil needs to answer some questions. Separated at birth.
🤣 We only told Phil he had a twin at Warwick.
What is Fission20 like
Hi Penny, I really liked it. Very flat and well organised. I know last year it sold out quite early so might be worth booking sooner to be sure of a spot.
