  • NOTE I do know the plow numbers are number 77 (Par painted plow leading) and number 90 (Maine central plow trailing.)
After reciving around 2 and 1/2 feet of snow today Pan Am Railways sent out a plow extra running as WA-1 from Waterville north up the Hinkley branch to clear it for Sappi-3 and Sappi-4. After browsing on-line i saw they had left to go east from MP110 around 10AM. I rushed to Newport where they where just breaking through major drifts at Christies Campground crossing in, Newport. So i set up my camcorder and gopro and filmed them as they narrowly miss a broken down plow truck at Tent village rd. I hope to catch this guy when he goes back through.
    Thanks for watching!

I've seen them go faster just once. I remember back when I first started railfanning, shortly after I moved to maine, there was an engineer up that way, very railfan friendly. He would always come up to our car and talk to us, he even let us in the cab of #305 once, let me rev the throttle and blow the horn. Anyway, one day, he had #371, plus two GP9's and two or three more GP40's, on NMED. He came blowing up through Fullers Road in Carmel at 25 MPH! I have never been so scared of a train, those cars were rocking all over the place!

Man, this is awesome. I remember when I was perhaps in second or third grade, there was a pair of B&M plows that were residing on the spur track at ED they usually reserve for non-revenue cars. For a long time I never saw them again, then maybe a few years later they showed up again, along with a third one, different style that was painted yellow, and a Jordan spreader. I can't say I've seen them since, but I figure Pan Am just keeps them elsewhere now.

They moved them to Ayer and that would be a Mec plow and Mec 799. They had 4 of those BM double track plows two went to MBTA.

Thanks! Hopefully I can catch another one, since if CSX takes over the plows will likely get axed not long after.

Thanks, I would have set my gopro up on another tripod rather than wear it on my hat, but I couldn't find a tripod mount.

The old B+M had a rotary fan plow in the 1960's.Living next to the Lexington Branch for many years 1962 or 3 it came by at 2AM with a terrific roar, the only time anyone ever saw one.

@@Maine_Railfan replying super late years later to clarify what I meant by vets back then, I meant one of the veterinary clinics near my area in Penobscot county, obviously not saying the exact town for privacy but yeah it was definitely more northern than where you caught it that day, essentially you could say the Bangor area
