    Smaller plates in black with orange numbers would look better, they look too big for the bike
    Would look better with the cans with graphics to me

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  8 месяцев назад +5

      The number plates are just the universal 9x11 size. That’s really the only size I’ve seen, and I think they fit the bike and that space pretty perfectly. I am thinking about trying black number plates, but I’m afraid they’d blend with the bike too much or that the gloss black would look too cheap and out of place. Definitely stoked to see how the ammo cans end up looking though! They’ll obviously stick out much further, but will be a bit smaller from the side view.

    At this point, Coffman should just sponsor you, man. You show off how good their products are consistently. Plus this particular product is better quality, better price and has massive weight savings. Clever thought on the ammo cans, just might want to find a way to seal where you still the holes through. Looking forward to more, like this mythical new bike we heard about.

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  8 месяцев назад +7

      They actually have sponsored a trip for me before! I don’t let companies sponsor videos like this though because I need to be able to be 100% honest in my opinions when doing any kind of review video.
      I do have plans to keep the ammo cans water sealed, although it shouldn’t matter too much for me because I avoid rain on this thing like the plague. The disadvantages of having no rear fender 😅😂
      The mythical new bike will be revealed as soon as we get our next break from the crappy winter weather we’ve been dealing with! 🤞🏻

    • @MotoDash1100
      @MotoDash1100 8 месяцев назад

      @LifeOfBurch Heyo, on the note about making a seal where the mounting holes would go, ya could toss in a bolt from inside of ammo can, and just ONLY dismount the ammo can usint a nut you loosen.
      I remember seeing in a FortNine video called "Dark Side" or something (where he puts a car tire on the rear wheel then talks about pros and cons) he uses a strong epoxy, if its good enough to keep air in a tire it would be strong enough to not let water in is what I'm thinking.
      2nd solution (and able to keep dismounting potential from just opening ammo can lid and using a ratchet screwdriver to loosen the bolt) would be, just an O-ring on the inside of the ammo can, on the bolt so O-ring squishes in between Bolt head and ammo can, and then if ya want redundancy put a 2nd O-ring on the bolt part that is outside the ammo can, a washer to squish the outside O-ring down to the outside wall of the ammo can, and if need to, a simple nut to run down the bolt length and tighten down against the outside ammo can wall to keep pressure on the washer (that's squishing the O-ring).
      ... sorry for lengthy response, got mentally distractedwith ways to water-proof the mounting holes.

    I wanted to thank you, as a very new rider who bought a CL500 like 2 months ago and with zero experience with cars or any other motorized vehicle before that, your channel, your mentality and the mods you did on your bike, all of that has helped me a lot having more fun riding my motorcycle and finding the confidence to start customizing some things to my liking.
    Also, your bike looks gorgeous with that new exhaust, as cool as the Vance & Hines was, it looked a bit too long and "snakey" to really suit your bike's look, and the number plate idea is really cool too !

    Love your videos Burch! For the V&H rust worries, we wouldn't worry about it much. The factory exhaust is made from the same material, steel. The only difference is that the factory muffler has a peep-hole under it that allows the condensation to drain out, where as the V&H one doesn't have the peep hole, so the water could collect or pool some where. Look under the OEM muffler of your SCL500 and you'll see the said peep hole that allows drainage. Once the engine is warmed up, all of the condensation would blast out and the hot air will dry the muffler. Any rust shown is only surface. The OEM muffler would also have the same surface rust as well if you pull out the muffler section and peep inside. If you're worried about the condensation building up, some would run the slip-on clamp slightly loose so that it could drain from there, this is the only thing about running a high-mount exhaust, is that liquid flows to the lowest point, so it has to be released somewhere and the V&H has no where to put the drainage hole at the lowest point (lowest point is actually the OEM header. Just wanted to put it out there for those that are worried! Keep up the great work!

    Ooh, the tone of the Coffman with baffle in sounds REALLY nice to me, but I do wonder if it would be too loud for us here in Australia with tougher restrictions, and also for my own tastes. It's a tough compromise between tone and volume.

      I've seen some people use ammo cans (like what Burch said he found and will try mounting) find 3D Printed inserts to slide into the ammo cam box and hold a drink cup.
      Burch has both, number plates but also small saddlebags in the form of Ammo Cans, he just didn't get them installed yet in time to mount them in this video (he did show them off though).
      It would be awesome to see what all Burch fits into his ammo cans he has. He's said before that he's doesn't like how some saddlebags look, so I'm kinda just thrilled to see he'll be rigging up/making his own saddlebags, hopefully that's a dedicated video but maybe not if it's a huge trial-and-error process, I don't know.
      *Anyways, the short of it: he's planning to rock both; number plates, as well as a custom-made saddlebag solution.*

    A trick from the old days to stop exhausts rotting from the inside: This NEVER occurred on 2 stroke bikes because of the coating of oily residue throughout the exhaust. To get similar protection on a 4 stroke, some people tipped 2 stroke oil in the exhaust and swished it around to coat all of the internals...when the engine is started (accompanied by a cloud of blue smoke!) the oil burns on leaving a coating. Some swore by it and in my experience it definitely seemed to work.
    That said, oil getting into the cat would not be great so wouldn't do that on the inlet side of the cat and would ensure that the oil completely drained before fitting and then start the bike asap after starting. Raising front wheel would also be wise....do job on a steep hill with bike pointing upwards!

    I love what you’ve done to the bike. I have been considering this Honda in particular I started with a Harley Dina and that’s about to get sold. I’m looking at a full faring street bike, but my girlfriend will be starting on a rebel 300 and I didn’t want to leave her in the dust when we start riding again, that will be her first bike but I’ve been riding for 8+ years and I wanted something comparable to what she had so we were kind of on the same field. Looks damn good! Do you have any thoughts on going with Nabi tires on your 500 SC, just wondering if that’s something you are considering it’s something I am considering foolish because I like the way it looks😂

    Love the Coffman's but also love the V&H (except for the rust). Just depends on the look you're going for. I like the number plates but they would look so much better if they weren't white. It just doesn't go with the look of the bike.

      Yea I was unsure of the price at first, but as soon as I saw that you could also use it to print photos off your phone onto a Polaroid I said TAKE MY MONEY 😂 It’s been well worth the cost already! I found a $12 lens cap for it on Amazon too, so now I can travel with it and not be as concerned.

      I think to offset the weird bracket, an asymmetric single bag is a good solution.
      And I don't know but wrapping the headers could look dope to fit the look.

      (The quote/reference being just because he's has one installed, doesn't mean he can't have both.)
      He showed off ammo cans in the video, it will be interesting how he goes with them. But he is planning to mount to the number plates (or their mounting posts?, unsure).
      So, he will still have some small luggage space when he gets them installed. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

    Hey dude - love the build. The local honda dealership had a SCL500 with the V&H exhaust also high fender kit and bar ends. I didn't really like the look of those mods but I'm glad I watched this video to stray away from the V&H exhaust. Have you come across anyone with the Arrow exhaust for this bike? That's the other one I'm considering. I may just get this Coffman and ride it unless Yoshi comes out with something.
