00:00 Introduction
00:25 Early History
01:15 From the Grand Duchy of Moscow to the Russian Empire (1283 - 1917)
02:31 The Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union (1922 - 1991)
04:50 Russian Federation (1991-present)
Russia's history is traced back to the people called “Slavs”.
In 862, the first East Slavic state, known as the Rus’ state, was founded and led by the Viking Oleg of Novgorod with Kiev as its capital.
In the 13th century, the Mongols invaded Kievan Rus and established the Golden Horde, with the Rus’ principalities as their vassals.
In 1480, Moscow gained its independence from Mongol rule, forming the Grand Duchy of Moscow or Muscovy. In 1547, Ivan IV, or Ivan the Terrible, became the first Tsar (Emperor) of Russia, transforming the Grand Duchy of Moscow into the Tsardom of Russia.
From 1551 to 1700, Russia was transformed into the Russian Empire in 1721 under the reign of Peter the Great. The next century witnessed the expansion of the empire, stretching over three continents, Europe, Asia, and North America.
The Russian Revolution in 1917 and the Rusian Civil War paved the way for the establishment of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), the Soviet Union.
Under the rule of Joseph Stalin, the country was transformed from a peasant society to a military and industrial power.
On September 1, 1939, World War II broke out between the Allied and Axis powers.
On May 8, 1945, after the fall of Berlin to Soviet troops and Hitler’s suicide, Germany surrendered unconditionally, marking the end of the war in Europe.
Following the war, the Soviet Union formed various Soviet satellite states and emerged as a superpower and rival to the United States in the nearly half-century-long Cold War.
In 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev became the Soviet leader and was later elected president in 1990. In December 1991, following a failed Communist Party coup against Gorbachev, the Soviet Union was dissolved and Gorbachev resigned.
Following the dissolution, all of the Soviet republics emerged as fully independent post-Soviet states. Among these, Russia, or the Russian Federation, became known as the Soviet Union's primary de facto internationally recognized successor state.
In 2014, following the Ukrainian Revolution, war broke out between Russia and Ukraine.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, escalating the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War.
What do you think is the decisive factor leading to the Russo-Ukrainian War?

You have skipped 200 years of the history of the Russian Empire, the Northern War, the Seven Years' War, the Napoleonic Wars, the uprising of the Decembrists, the liberation of the peasants, the February Revolution. But you mentioned the conflict with Ukraine and the 2018 Football Championship. lmao
to be fair its a 5 minute video, ill give him that
I AGREE
Also casually omitting the wilful ascension of the Tatar Crimean state the the empire
I get what you’re saying but like why would he not talk about Russia invading Ukraine? It’s a current event in history.
Edit: oh you’re a Russian lmao you probably think Putin is a hero.

Afghanistan was never part of USSR, but you added it on map. It is a mistake
It served as a satellite country of the USSR.
That's right, the video maker was a bit confused. I appreciate your information, but can also sympathize because mistakes are inevitable. Hope the channel owner will do better next time 👍
It was a buffer state
Ikr
@Countryball Of Romania 🇷🇴 hey do u like hungary?
Why are the borders of the Russian Empire so poor? The Russian Empire included the territory of Russia, the Baltic States, Belarus, half of Poland, most of Ukraine, Bessarabia, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Alaska (until 1867). But you decided not to bother and do so.
What do you mean poor? The poverty of these regions is connected with the planned economy of the USSR
Also it shows Afghanistan as a Soviet territory and not as the country they invaded in 1979

One Correction: Russia wasn’t expelled from the council of Europe, they left voluntarily
Their membership was freezed, then they left.
some sources and articles also wrote that they were deported
ahhh really?? xD Dont be stupid, they were kicked out.
lol
you got a serious problem with maps...
Dmitry Medvedev wasn't even mentioned... he served for 4 years as president during 2008-2012.

I certainly understand the current situation. But why was the capture of Crimea by the Russian Empire in 1783 not reflected on the map?
The Russian Empire owned all of Central Asian countries of Kazakhastan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkmenistan, and Tajikistan.
2:43 a bit of a correction. Tsaritsyn was renamed into Stalingrad in 1925. Also the map labels Rostov-on-Don as Stalingrad when in fact Stalingrad lies on the Volga River. Also some of the borders aren't 100% historically accurate, but none the less great video!
Most of the borders were inaccurate
@@Yapyap167 You are right, but this is a youtube video not a documentary style video so it's expected.

when you are taking responsibility to make an educational video, do it right, why is Georgia part of russia in 2022?
Well Explained
0:52 bro really said 1988
0:39 Oleg became prince of Novgorod in 879, not 862. 862 is when Rurik was invited to rule Novgorod. Several of these maps are a little inaccurate as well (i.e the Russian Empire was larger than that in 1914 and the Soviets owned Moldova from 1940 onwards)

4:59 a bit of correction on the map, 🇬🇪Georgia & 🇲🇩Moldova also gained independence at the same time despite not shown on the map, whilst 🇦🇫Afghanistan was only a country that they invaded to install a puppet government in, it was never part of the Soviet Union itself 😅
Uhm you are wrong
Counties that Soviet Union invaded:
1918 = Ukraine and Belarus
1939 = Poland and Finland
1940 = Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
Soviet Union Satellite States = Hungary (1956) and Czechoslovakia (1968)
1979 = Afghanistan

2:28 Central Asia went poof
Cmon Guys give him credit he had Russia's history in 6 minutes he had a lot to do
true
No, there are a lot of wrong moments in the video. Kinda bad map animation.
I agree with that
Nice video, better then my history class.
When I looked at the map of the Russian Empire
I was surprised to say the least.
This is not a map of the Russian Empire, it is the author of dibil

Kinda picking fly shit out of pepper on that detail.
So much important info in such a small video,, it is very helpful. Thank you so much. From India 🙏🏻
5 minutes ✖️
6 minutes✔️
0:53 You said 1998. You also were showing Afghanistan as part of the USSR, but we all know where that went in real life. Another little error is that you did not show Russia as the owner of central Asia until the USSR showed up. Some more errors are these: you labeled Ukraine as Romania and didn't show Kaliningrad as part of Germany during ww2.
Yeah.True
So interesting facts!🤗
2:37 The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg were not part of Germany in 1917. And Romania, Greece, Serbia, Albania, and Montenegro were not all part of Bulgaria.
And what do you want to hear from him, who added Afghanistan to the USSR
Why is Russian Empire have territory of Russian Federation in 1819???
Great video! Russia is my favorite country
Your granny loved nazi Germany and Hitler too.
you missed georgia.
georgia became independent from ussr
Not to be mean, but these borders are quite bad in so many ways, aswell as u skipped some of the most important wars aswell...

the borders tho 💀
You didn’t include the Stan nations in the Russian Empire or the areas of Eastern Europe (like Poland) they ruled.

In fact, if you omit the intro and outro, the video length is about 5 minutes or more than a few seconds 😁
Goddamn the maps have so many problems. They'd begin with he fact that central Asia was ignored as part of the Russian Empire and early USSR, Afghanistan wasn't a part of it, the soviet borders were immediately post WW2 borders and more issues but damn. At least the information is accurate

The Border inaccuracies hurt my brain.
We are living in a time, where we are gonna be a witnesses of this memorable part of the history.
Also Rurik was that who formed Rus, aint i am right?
Good video, but just some mapping mistakes.
2:37 Germany never invaded the Netherlands, but it shows the Netherlands as entirely a part of Germany
Also Kazakhstan, as well as Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan should be included into Russia.
The city of Stalingrad wasn’t named that until 1925, it also isn’t close to the Black Sea, rather closer to the Caspian Sea.
3:21 I’m sure you’re aware of this but the borders in 1939 were much different than now.
Again great video but those are some thing that I noticed that could be improved or fixed.

Absolutely fucked up borders
"Hitler's suicide" **comical sound effect plays**
Inaccuracy: A civil war broke out after the 2014 coup in Ukraine. It was not a Russia-Ukraine war until February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a Special Military Operation and its troops entered Eastern Ukraine.
When it’s really 6 minutes and 7 seconds 🤦♂️

Wow that was crazy unbiased, normally when i watch videos about russia made in the past few months they have slava ukraine plastered across their video but wow you managed to understand that you can stay neutral in conflicts
Right?.. they don’t even know the real reason why Ukraine was attacked ( it’s not even an invasion because if Russia declared a full scale war invasion than most of Ukraine is basically toasted ), it actually makes sense from a geopolitical Stand point.. but no.. it’s RUSSIA BAAAAAAAD every where.
i mean ukraine didnt do anything bad recently

Cons: Not the correct location of Volgograd (Stalingrad), the Russian Empire has Western possessions of Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, etc. they appeared only in 1914 that the same situation with Central Asia was also not correct, and for some reason the Soviet Union had Afghanistan, almost everything in World War II did not have the correct borders, and even after 2014 there is no Crimea, maybe you don’t recognize it, but this is an important thing in stories.
I just noticed that in the 1923 borders is that Afghanistan is incorrect and you showed after WW2 borders In the west
2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia was skipped.
