Really helpful video. I’m in the position of having agreed to buy my grandson’s cricket bats, he’s now aged 10, but is currently in the third year of the county cricket club’s junior training scheme so he’s a serious if still very junior player. He needs a new bat so his county coach advises so that’s what we’re off to do. Fortunately we have a good cricket shop close by so grandson can go and swing a bat or three but as the one paying, I want to ensure he has the right size bat, length of course, he’s probably still size 4, but, and clearly very importantly, weight. Being shown the need to be able to hold the bat out straight with his non-dominant hand, the left in his case, without it wobbling is extremely helpful as was the tip that a bat marginally too light is far better than one that is too heavy and why this is was excellent advice. As a general rule, I understand that English willow bats are lighter in weight than Kashmiri ones, so itv looks as if we’re heading for an English willow size 4 but hopefully not one that costs the earth!

This is a very difficult question to answer because each bat is unique as the willow can vary. Our advice is to go with something that feels good in the hands or if you can't get to a store, something that fits your style of play.

Hi Darshan, the bat you choose will depend on a number of factors discussed within the video so it is difficult to recommend a specific bat. Make sure you get the right size for you (top of the handle should break the wrist where you would wear a watch).

Brands can vary but it is best to have a feel of a bat in your hand. If you can get to a store to pick up and get a feel for a bat this will give you the best opportunity to find out a bat that is both the right size and weight.

It is vital that you set yourself a budget before you start looking at any cricket bat. It doesn't make sense to be looking at 4 bats when 3 out of the 4 are out of your budget 👍
