For a while now, I have been convinced that Christians should be independent voters. Our loyalty should be to Christ and His Word, not a political party. Today the Republican party seems to have the platform that aligns with our values the most, but it's not guaranteed that that will always be the case. When we put our trust in human institutions we unavoidably get disappointed. Let's pray and trust God.

Now I don't like certain republicans, and certain policies within their party, but if I'm forced to choose a democrat or a republican, then I have to vote for the Republican. BEHOLD, the ewes in those pews will remember what JESUS TAUGHT (instead of what their churches teach) and they will come to worship with the church of brotherly love -- we keep Jesus' commandments -- Matthew 22: 36-40, and have the "Little Strength" of the Rock -- Matthew 16: 17-18.

I was thinking about Cain and Abel. I realized that God warned Cain, but did nothing else to stop him from murdering Abel and did not warn Abel that Cain was coming. I don't exactly what this means for us, but it shows that God does not force anyone to do what is right, but God does tell the truth about what is right. Maybe we should continue to clearly state the truth of what God says, but not feel compelled to force it on the world around us. In other words, "let those who have ears to hear let them hear". Faith in Christ swept through the Roman world without any political power at all. In fact,I would say some problems came when Christianity became a political force. Just something to think about.

I've thought a lot about this and can't think of a solution that still preserves the system of the American government and also advances Christian values in their entirety. The trouble is it is both simultaneously unchristian and un-American to force biblical beliefs and morality on anyone so we are left with offering the choice and hoping they choose God. Since our decisions are made by a vote of the people you would need to get the majority of people to agree and vote biblically. Because there's a heart issue, that's never going to happen without an actual act of God changing the hearts of the people: a genuine revival. The Republican party is made up of a lot of people, a conglomerate who are definitely not all Christians. They have joined together under a "conservative" banner with points they can mostly agree on. They are being pragmatic. If they splinter apart they will never win so they remain joined together. From a Christian perspective this is a major problem. We vote according to our conscience but in order to remain competitive in the political sphere, Republicans compromise to appeal to the most "conservative" people possible. If we want a party that reflects our values we would need to create a new one, but we would effectively be about as successful as the green party of old was. Although we would have an option to vote, we would still be tossing our vote away (speaking in regard to the people getting voted in who will be creating and maintaining our laws) and the far left would reign unchecked. Alternatively we could attempt to vote in the candidate most likely to successfully oppose them but sacrifice our core values in the process. We are caught between a rock and a hard place. Ultimately we are voting in accordance with our conscience trying to be as faithful as we can while thinking....maybe a theocracy wasn't the worst idea in the world as long as it's led by our "Theo-"... And then reality quickly sets in as we see that rapidly going down in a ball of flames. In the end the problem is it's part of a world system that has been, is, and will always be fatally flawed. Pray, witness, vote as best you can, and remember God is in control.

The current legal definition of marriage in this country is such that it isn't marriage, and there is nothing politically to be said about it. Once the courts allowed a new definition to somehow change the law, it brought the nation into a nonsensical void where the writers of dictionaries become tyrants. Yes, this needs fixed, but I'm not sure if there's a political path left to that correction. Perhaps we should consider going after dictionaries and then bringing our definitions into courtrooms to see if the judiciary finally catches its error.

Even as a Christian I believe people should be free to choose their sexual morays as long as there are no victims (That doesn't mean they aren't sinning). The thing about same-sex marriage is that outside of nomenclature, it doesn't exist. For thousands of years and still around the world for the most part, marriage has a universally understood definition as between a man and a woman for purposes of social structure, as in families and/or honoring such. That definition is larger than us. It's not subject to our whims. You want to create robust civil unions? Fine. That doesn't pound away at the foundations of civilization. Redefining those foundations does.

Christians lost their backbone about 50 years ago. Up until recently, they've been just fine with going along to get along, but Obama and Biden have made us realize that, though this isn't our ultimate home, we shouldn't just hang out and wait for Jesus to come back. We've started looking for that old thing, you know, the one thing that helps us stand up straight, tall and proud, and by God's grace, were slowly reassembling it. We're not sure we have all the pieces, or where they go but we're slowly getting there. Once Christians stop arguing about the need to be nice or we'll lose our witness so we can't have that particluar section of the vertibre, we'll actually start being able to make a difference again. I know, I know, our mission is not politics, it's gospel, and I agree. But its not as though they are in conflict. Evangelism only Christianity is a new brand of Christianity and it's those people that threw our backbone out the window. Brothers, think critically. Our mission to reach the world is political. Jesus is King, and he's got a law. The kingdom of heaven is at hand. If you're theology gives you a visceral reaction to what Jesus proudly proclaimed, you should throw out your theology instead of your backbone.

@@palmerther So you would do nothing? Do you lock the doors on your house at night or when you aren't home?
Although the battle may be spiritual we have obligations to raise our families in a manner that points them to heaven. It is instructive to note just who in government is working hard to strip that liberty from us. Accepting and then receiving persecution for our beliefs and actions is something that can be expected. But to embrace it by standing aside and allowing its momentum to gain unfettered velocity seems irresponsible and unnecessary does it not?
A nation under judgement we surely are. National repentance is the only way to turn God from His holy anger. But it seems to me that one of the easy steps to take a stand would be to pray for our governmental leaders and exercise our right to vote. A very large portion of the world has never known the right to have self-governance. The Republican Party may not be the "party of God" but at least it isn't the party that is dominated with anti-Christian thought, platform, and actions.

@@willowbrook2717 I say thank you for the rebuke, if completely unnecessary. For one thing, I never implied "do nothing". All over RUclips and the Internet there are comments, that you will never see, about praying for our leaders and voting as well as praying for our enemies as an example. i would encourage you to asking questions before jumping to conclusions.
Around the Internet are posts saying that I will vote for President Trump, as there is no other option.
Both of these things come up in my speech as well.
I find it strange when I make posts about my faith in God and His sovereignty the general response tends to be "You are doing nothing!?". I walk by faith and not by sight. It is true that there is human responsibility and I study scripture for wisdom in my actions. For example, the book of Acts is a great place to study for examples of Godly action.
As far as the Republican Party as a whole, I always exercise caution. 2 Cor 6:14 ""Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?". Make no mistake this party is part of the "world:" that scripture warns us about. Also, Psalms 1 - "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly". I do not look to the Republican party for any kind of wisdom.
As far as self-governance. The only governance I seek is Christ on the throne. I look to and ask that our leaders to exercise their God ordained responsibilities.
Most of all, I seek that God's will be done and that creation glorify Him. Whatever we eat or whatever we drink, no matter what we do, we do it all for the glory of God.
      Grace and peace to you.

I've always liked Wretched Radio, but Todd, while understanding Theology except for baptism, doesn't understand the Constitution. The Constitution, the illegal nature of its ascendency aside, doesn't call for a strong military nor a standing army. Where it is silent the States and people retain authority unless amended. Therefore, the Feds have no authority meddling in abortion. And, that's the problem. Our founders did not intend a monolithic government run out of Washington D.C. dictating to the States. They (the States) gave the Feds LIMITED authority and retained the remainder to themselves. Abortion is a State matter, so is slavery. Also, there is no authority for the Feds to "Preserve the Union" which was Lincoln's stated reason for the war of aggression. Slaves were only freed by Lincoln in the states that seceded, something which he had no authority to do, and that, because he was hoping to force on the South a two front war. It's interesting how Christians today in their zeal ignorantly call for tyrannical government like the Christian Abolitionists.

One of the problems is that so many churches and denominations in today’s era remain silent on crucial issues. Those that don’t remain silent are woke. Every authentic Christian pastor should make clear the biblical position on homosexuality, abortion, gender issues, matters of race - the whole array of woke ideas. Churches are silent out of fear that Truth is unpopular, so it’s avoided. It’s not shocking, then, that there isn’t more pressure from grass roots levels to strengthen the Christian foundation of the Republican platform.
Further, a question to ponder: what have those stronger platforms delivered? Look where we are. Consider who the candidates have been in that time. Bush (the son). McCain. Romney. Each and everyone of those men have been weak and either gave up ground or lost the election, when a stronger candidate could have fought harder and prevailed. As shocking as it is, Trump has far more effectively advanced the Republican - and Christian - agenda than any of those three other candidates. Throw in Bush (the dad) and Dole and it’s clear that that run of Republican candidates between Reagan and Trump have been worthless. As odd as it is to believe, Trump has been far more effective in these regards than those 5 weak, ineffective Republicans.
One final thought: as much as we would like to see federal protections for unborn children, short of a bloody civil war the best way to accomplish that result may be through our federalist system, where states rights are exercised. Through popular vote, and over time, and with the active involvement of Christians I afraid to speak the truth, that outcome may actually come, and it would likely be lasting. Short of that, it could become a civil war situation.

Erwin Lutzer, Oct 14, 2016 - First, I did not want anyone to think that the Gospel was tied to a political party. If I were to endorse a candidate, people would identify Christianity with that political label, and this would be a stumbling block to those of the opposing political party. Instead of endorsements, over the years I have preached on those issues which cross the biblical/political divide, such as abortion, the role of law, same-sex marriage, etc. But throughout I have always insisted that the cross of Christ must be held above political wrangling, particularly before an election. We must be able to say to Democrats, to Republicans, and to Independents, “All of you are lost forever if you do not put your faith in Christ.”
The second reason for my refusal was that I feared a politician I endorsed could turn out to be a disappointment, and I would then be embarrassed that I had lent my name (and by extension that of The Moody Church) to the man or woman who acted in an un-Christian manner. My visitor actually agreed with this reason; he even told me about a politician who had been endorsed by a prominent Christian leader and won the election, but whose name then appeared a few years later in a “black book” kept by a woman in prostitution.

I agree with all of your points. However, I would like to state that it is not the Republican party's job to stand for what's right in God's sight. IT'S OUR JOB as followers of Christ. Both parties have worked to subvert the principles under which this nation was founded. In fact, politics in general has done and is doing this. Giving either party any creedence at this point would be biblically foolish. The democrats would have us destroyed while republicans would lay supinely on their backs "hugging the delusive phantom of hope". There is too much of the politics in our faith these days. We need to get the politics out of our faith and our faith back into the politicians. The only hope is in Christ and I for one am tired of having to choose between a lesser of evils every November. Plus I am beyond sick of the discussion. These politicians don't put money in my pocket or food in my kid's mouths. If anything their politics or "platforms" end up taking those things away. Then there's the fact that we have all these economy choking "social programs" not because the politicians cared and were being benevolent, but because "christians" (lower case on purpose) dropped the ball a long time ago.

I agree with the video about needing stronger stances. It almost seems we've lost the conviction needed to stand strong and remain set apart.
