Jewel is fully involved and showed she was emotionally invested in her performance. Still watching this years later. Home Free background pitch perfect.
This may have been the best, most clean, performance on this show ever. Maybe even one of the top live performances by an acapella group ever, up there with pentatonix's Hallelujah live.
I was NOT expecting that from Jewel. In my opinion, she really did a great job. I mean, I know her songs, and she can sing, but here, she SUNG the hell out of this song.
I haven't been a Jewel fan, but really liked this performance. I think the three judges were the best I've seen on ANY of this type of show. They were all thoughtful with their remarks, entertaining, and worked really well as a team. Kudos to them.
Yeah by far the only show of this type that doesn't sicken me. Very little overplayed lacrimose sentimentality or contrived 'drama,' no slogging through intentionally crappy auditions, no cookie cutter archetypal judge clones... an actual TALENT show, let's see who's best and here some legit musical insight along the way from REAL musicians and analysts. So the logical conclusion is of course that it isn't as popular and will probly go the way of the dodo.
Can you imagine sitting around with these guys? They don't have to pull out any instruments and at just the snap of a finger you have an amazing sound before you.
This only makes me sadder that this show could not continue. The worst performance on this show tops the best of most others. The judges comments were both honest and relevant. A huge loss.
This song still gives me chills and I have listened to it 3 times now... so glad Home Free won but especially glad they got to do this beautiful song with Jewel!
you can't build a house without a good foundation and Adam and specially Tim with that beautiful "walking bass"lay a foundation that you can build a medieval castle on :)
I did not mind Jewel swinging her arms as she sang Her heart had deep feelings n she expressed it. Every beat in arm movement matched the notes n I felt her thoughts. 😘 Loved Home Free, they were excellent and Jewel completed the picture.💖💝
Jewel is usually such a warbler (not an insult just a comment on her vocal style). She really change gears and sang like an ingenue from the 60s, nice versatility!
I'm glad you mentioned that, Brian. Exactly! Maybe some of the difference between the warbling and the pure can be explained by the absence of the band. The beauty of a capella is, of course, the fact that there are no musical instruments. She did a fantastic job on this, but I truly think she was made better by the backup group - in this case the orchestra of human voices.
@@cqsallie I know I'm 4 years late, but she is literally known for singing acoustic, just her guitar. She doesn't do bands or background instruments. If anything, she'd sound BETTER without them. Jewel isn't a "pop" singer she's a folk singer. All her songs are played acoustic because that's how they're written. Your comment totally baffled me.
Great! I was not expecting a jazz/big-band style, with such tight, tight, close, high harmonies and great transitions. You know it was good when Shawn jumped up twice and even yelled "Wow!"; and at end, you can hear him commenting to Ben, 'they showed a real jazz style' (or something close to that). Shows that Home Free can sing in any style.
Big Band style? LOL There's only 5 guys and they sound like an orchestra with Jewel. The best group every to be on Sing Off. Look up Adam freestyliing with his beat box abilities - not sure there's anyone better.
I really loved this arrangement. For the naysayers, one has need to understand the syncopated rythms, the fact that the vocals presented are a product of her core, and in turn are affected by the movements of her arms, legs and indeed facial distortions. I found her performance well done and flattering to home free, she did indeed feature tham as stars with rather complicated harmonies... for those that pick at the scab, music is more than who stands up front, it is a product of ones very soul, she and they presnted that with a humility that astounds me... awesome in my eyes.l
I was lucky enough to see Home Free on their Christmas Tour "Full of Cheer" the beginning of this month here in NJ - they are truly amazing! Their personalities compliment each other - what a great group of guys! WHAT GREAT VOICES!!! And, I took my husband who is now a HUGE fan, too!!!
Are YOU fking kidding me?! On this day 24,154 people have seen this and only 981 people could watch it and move their fking cursor over and click the GD "like" button? Really? Those boys and That Jewel sang their asses off and they were great beyond expectations! Come on, People! Geeze.
I hate how that woman can belt out those notes in such a mature manner, and then when the song is done she goes right back to being a cutesy girly girl acting all shy. Screw her and that crazy talent of hers. That was amazing.
In 1988 I was standing watch as the Officer of the Deck on the USS Tarawa. I answered the phone at about 23:40 on December 24th. A young woman’s voice asked me if I was a sailor serving on the ship and if I was away from home. I said, “yes m’aam” and then she beautifully sang this song and hung up. If you are that woman and read this I want to thank you. It was wonderful and thoughtful and, even through the phone speaker, sounded lovely. Thank you and God bless you wherever and whoever you are!
Lol Austin you were just beaming like your all time dream came true, that's how your fans feel about you guys and meeting them after the show I've only seen that in Branson MO after the shows. Great great congrats 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉💜😎
rattlesnake Snakeman Hahaha... I love hearing people like you tell me how much they know.... cause everyone ends up knowing what you know... You're a puts/... Hahaha and now everyone knows it
Perfect combination, sharp vocals and delightful execution. Country and jazz blended perfectly. Honey to the ears. (It sure got Shawn Stockman going, didn't it?)
Just an amazing effort ! Jewel was excellent and the Home Free boys made this something very special ! Tops on my Christmas song list that is for sure !
You know...Jewel threw the gauntlet down and you boys from Home Free looked at her and said "Accepted!". You did not disappoint! Jewel has a beautiful voice and your boys' accompaniment really puts the twang in sensation from my base of my skull down and then all the way back up again. I've watched this video at least 20 times and this just tells me that if there is such a thing as Heaven, well..this is the pearly gate that I want to enter at.
last night was the first time I heard of these fellows and listen to their music very very impressive they did songs that they're rendition of was just as well as the originals I hope they do not break up anytime in the future because they have one hell of a band such as the stones Pink Floyd ACDC Oak Ridge Boys all the great bands too many to list but they are definitely one of the great bands for the future
For those that think Home Free is a one trick pony pay attention to Shaun's comment at the end; "Beautiful, Beautiful. They showed some jazz chops man."
Yes, indeed, curtm97982: I was expected a 'country' arrangement, but this was oh so cool jazz (I've played in big bands and w/female jazz vocalists) and they just nailed everything about the jazz sound: tight, high harmonies to match her lower, sort of raspy range, and when she stopped & they took over, Austin & Rob were so high & exactly on pitch & smooth as alto flute & high saxes, I almost didn't realize Jewel had stopped singing (the transition was spot on!), and the jazz harmonies at the end were exactly right (some kind of diminished chord, I think). Home Free can rock out the best of country, but this was wonderful jazz.
In fact, in the beginning, Home Free was "all purpose". When Tim and Austin joined, because their voices was the quintessential "country music" voice, they tried giving a country twist to their singing, and their fans loved it! So they decided to focus on doing country acapella. But they are perfectly capable of singing in any style :-)
The last Christmas song I recall my late Grandfather singing was “Have yourself a very merry Christmas”. Thank you for helping me relive that memory through a face full of tears.
While Jewel and her voice get the credit for singing lead on this arrangement/rendition, we all know that tenor Rob Lundquist of Home Free "carried the tune" with his outstanding harmony foundation he sang up there on the high end to lock in the sweet chords throughout. I lost track of everyone else, except Tim carrying the low end and reconciling chords at the end. All others blended in mighty fine on this ear bending tune. Can't believe this was A'Cappella.
Remember replaying Between 3:20 - 3:23 over million times ... These guys always leave theirs fingers print, that's how you recognize true Artists. Gosh, i love that part .
I have watched this a thousand times and the sheer perfection, clarity and beauty of the voices and meaning of the song makes me cry every time. BRAVO!!!
I still can not get over how much Jewel's voice has matured and got better. I just listened to some of her older stuff and all I can is wow......she definitely got better with age.
Check her new album: "Freewheelin' woman" album has many different genre of songs: folk, blues, R&B, jazz, pop, etc. Songs with less instruments: almost (only guitar), when you loved me (only guitar), no more tears, & some other songs. can we PLEASE talk about the vocal percussion here because he did those brushes throughout the entire song, PERFECTLY, and I don't understand how
He's a human drum
Cause Adam ain't human.

Three words. Practice. Practice. and practice.

Show of Hands! Who would like to obtain a Christmas CD featuring Jewel and Home Free?
Love how jewel kept looking over at Tim in the beginning
This song is absolute perfection! There will never be a better version of this song! Congrats all round!
+Susan Sisson Susan, I agree, I luv'd this arrangement.
Susan Sisson - I positively agree, such a blessing.
NEVER!
The Bass is crazy crisp man Tim is a beast. Jewel singing to them sweet harmonies just makes this a blessed performance..

really nice to see judges with actual talent! LOVED this, and Shawn & Ben's performances too. Lovely!
Who else still gets emotional when they listen to this 🥲🎄
how the HELL is he making the brushes noises on the snare so perfectly. that's insane
That's just what I was thinking, haha
because Adam... that's why
Of course it's not someone's voice, that really is brush-drumming. So not completely a cappella.
no that's Adam the beatboxer making brush sounds that's just how good Adam is
+Catherine Zuklic That, dearie, is why they call him beatboxer extraordinaire. All sounds are 100% human voice. So yeah, completely acappella.
Can you imagine sitting around with these guys? They don't have to pull out any instruments and at just the snap of a finger you have an amazing sound before you.

A trick: watch series on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Cassius Nolan definitely, I've been watching on Flixzone for years myself :)
god, they have a fantastic bass
His name is Tim Faust, a force to be reckoned with, very talented, all of them!
Tim Foust*
I agree. The bass was killing me
Whoa... for a second it felt like it was snowing outside my house
Whoah! Jewel's voice!
Love it. They sang beautifully, percussions were dead on track and their voices never overpowered Jewel. Bravo 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

This is a very emotional version of this song with Jewel and I want to meet Home Free face to face because they are so talented
