No matter who you are you can not watch this video/interview and not come away with something. This great Jazz musician had a whole lot to say but at the end of the day a lot of people don't want to hear the truth.
One of the hardest truth's spoken by Sun Ra is his own testimony that he did not speak the Truth but served the agenda of those he called enemy. The Berkley speech is Sun Ra laying out his mental craft on Black people to his European peers.
"Everyone has to have their own government n their own ethic cultural structure" 👏👏 I admire how he seamlessly transitions from philosophy, politics, culture, religion n all in the same tone also, the interviewer was great n asked him some sensible questions.
This was a great interview. She treated Sun Ra with respect and with no air of judgement. I listened to this interview and I found it to be full of wisdom.
A master who espoused wisdom every time he spoke treating words like sacrament...that he could fuse this with musical orchestration is a true gift to all mankind. Still tripping on Ra after all these years
Everytime the legend pops up on my feed, i stop & 👂🏿. Rocket no.9 has taken me to space, which is the place. I wish i had an opportunity to meet this being while he was here on the planet but I came here in '87 so i missed my window but thanks to the music that was shared by Sun Ra & Arkestra I was able to tap in. I AM GRATEFUL!
"- I do get a lot of publicity in Europe and every other country I go in, because they know I deal with something more than music. They're beginning to feel it can't be expressed in words, and that's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to play a superior type of music. Not music that deal with the body, not music that deal with the mind - but music that deal with the spirit. The way it should be! You know, when you deal with music that deal with the spirit, you can encourage people to fight against the bad conditions on this planet. Even encouraging them to change things, simply by the music. " Sun Ra speaks the truth like no one else. Amen.
i was so lucky, a friend took me to a show at the old ballard firehouse in Seattle. i was such a punk..but suddenly I understood...music is fun, and freeing. thank you sun ra.
He saw the future, he saw the past. He really was the truth, a seer, and possibly the greatest jazz & blues keyboardist of the 20th century... piano and organ.
" German Town North Philly '98, I lived above a speakeasy and the sax player from his band used to go there and Sun Ra's old house was literally right around the corner " #classicmaterial
Great. He's talking "Chinese", for more than 90% of the people. The interviewer didn't comprehend what he was talking about, and could question Sun Ra responses to extract more Gems. He knows much more than we can imagine if the right person could extract those answers.
This (brother) if I may called him ‘’that’’ is truly uniquely different, different prospective about black people and our lifestyle and culture that you don’t hear from anyone else, his music is not from planet earth period.
Most of black jazz musicians took racism as their biggest muse to be creative... Not sun ra he is a choosen one... He had no hate inside.... Even when his music is all about destroying and creating a parallel universe ...he has so much knowledge inside you can hear in his frequencies.... I mean his voice
Sun Ra is more than music. He is an important reminder that we must treat everyone we meet with love and respect. My ears were fortunate to have heard him a few times. Wonderful ! I have a piece “12:30 On M Street “ with a tribute to Sun Ra. Space is the place!!!!! Please if you check out 12:30 On M Street…. Give a comment so I can grow and learn. Peace and Love 💕
Thanks for suggesting "Magical Egypt" I just finished and about to watch it again. From the spirituality, lucid dreaming, to the alchemy, all have my mind blown.
Amazing interview seriously! I hate how people on comments board try to talk and act like Sun Ra. Sun Ra is an amazing person, but you guys need to be yourself. That's the best way to be.
music before money ! sucsess based on genuine creativity [reflecting our source, and mutual creation] , not mass aceptance in pop culture ]...money power ego Sun Ra the seeker of truth... live humble
You may interpret him that way. But I think he meant the ancient Ethiopians who were the first Egyptians and they lost their country and government. Sun Ra was an Egyptologist. He read on Egyptology widely. Find out what he read in Szwed's book Space is the Place: The Lives and Times of Sun Ra.
"Any man talking about God, I investigate it." He did. The translations of his findings resonates in the music. In this interview,, his philosophy is beyond this world. If you've witnessed him perform live, you've witnessed, or experienced communion with angels.
Hahahaha I love his little quick smiles when the interviewers are acting and sounding like they don’t know what to do or say and you can tell he’s getting a kick out of making them uncomfortable. Go to 10:30 for instance and watch the quick little smile after the the ufo not having a license remark 😂😂
Egypt was the last golden age we experienced before our descent into spiritual darkness. All of the secret/sacred knowledge we hold today (hermeticism, themela, OTO, Free-masonry, alchemy) can have its roots traced back to the egyptians. If you want to get a basic understanding of what Sun Ra intuitively or otherwise understood than watch the series "Magical Egypt" on RUclips. This was put together by some really turned on and tuned in scholars I must say,
Great interviewER and great interviewEE. Only by letting Sun Ra speak at length can misquoting him and taking him out of context be avoided. Listen to how he 24:40 corrects her : "......P.R.O.F.I.T." At 25:29 is the truth as I have rarely seen it being spoken.
knuF timE Then, by all means, let him who is without sin cast the first stone (or drink the first Coke). Even the Dalai Lama has been known to rarely indulge in one thing or another of a worldly mature -why, u may ask? because, after all, he lives in this world and it is this world he has to deal with. Coming across as 100% saintly actually works against any crusader, because it is 100% off-putting and makes him/her non-relatable.
Oh fuck, i don't want to ruin this comments board because i'm talking about something other than Sun Ra because this is an amazing interview. Basically what i was explaining to MySkiesAreBlue24 is that the first people who lived in North and South America were ancient people called the Clovis people. They lived around 11,000 years ago. Look it up.
Listen to the Berkley speech and hear his truth about his speeches to Black people. Inwardly you will know if you can really accept Sun Ra, or if you have selective hearing as he points out about Black people. He knew people couldn't accept Truth, so he took advantage of their wishful thinking.
The first americans were actually the clovis people and they weren't pacific islanders or australian aborigines. Also as of 2011 were actually finding other cultures that pre-date the clovis people none of them came from the pacific islands. They crossed a land bridge from the bering strait during the ice age.
I really like this film! I did not like the audio quality at all but that happens often with videos. So, I turned on captions and this helped me quite a bit, even though that tool is not perfect. I loved it. The captions and hearing him at the same time gave me the experience I wanted; I wanted to actually think about what he was saying... He had charisma. He had a a great sense of humor. He starts to smile, but then he follows through and makes his points-- points which he meant to offer to all humans and in all sincerity I feel.
Sun Rat was poetic for sure. Just don’t buy into the “we’re bigger than we really are” delusions of grandeur mentality. It will suppress your actions as opposed to enlightening you
I wonder if Sun Ra was an activist? He is speaking from a stance of truth but then he goes off on some weired tangent. He was really a complicated man.
+Gerald McCarter he seems to be suggesting that the truth of humanity is that a race requires myths for it to be built up, and that blacks don't have any myth themselves
the first americans were pacific islanders and australian aborigines. the mongolian tribes were migrate hunters who followed the deer and were minority tribes. the so called african americans been here all along. this is what he meant by black ppls "lost their country and government".
The Ancient Spirits say that the planet is billions of years old and that from my own research within myself I was told that the planet was ran by many different beings side by side with man..Thats why we see all the variations of beings living among man in the pyramids. They talked and commune with each other...but since the last 6000 years the world has been in a spiritual decline...now this is the dawn of the resurrection of man and his balance with the eternal cosmos
that reporter missed what he said! he said "black ppls lost their country and goverment and felt if they intergrated they would be accpeted by society." what does he mean by this?
I love that stuff at 2:20. NO KIDDING. Jazz has lost it's intent...BIG TIME. He's got the "race reason" wrong I think...but he wasn't saying this in the "Lincoln Center Jazz Series Era". GET YOUR "CULTURE STRUCTURE" PEOPLE!!! PLay for your people!!! I know we think we are post-race...but notice that white people are saying that......
Interesting theory. So, do you subscribe to the theory that people came across the land bridge over the Bering Strait millions of years ago and populated North, Central and South America, ultimately having originated in the Rift Valley of Africa?
The ppls currently calling themselves African American are the American Indians found here upon arrival by the Europeans. That is the point you and the reporter missed. North America is a black country.
She' s a great interviewer, you can tell from Sun Ra's responses
