    I bought a small amount of ARKK recently. If the price goes down, I'll buy more, but otherwise leave it alone. I'm betting on Cathy Woods. I've invested in ETFs for a decade now, but this is my first active ETF. Also have mutual funds. I'm 70yo, and a new subscriber.

    I'm Australian and hold ARKK as a way of getting exposure to overseas stocks with a focus on innovation. The Australian stock market is very small and EFTs are dominated by the 4 major banks and mining companies so lack diversification. I'm very happy with how ARKK has preformed to date.

    Hi , great video this. So how much do these etfs fluctuate when compared to normal stocks prices? Are these investments slightly sturdier? also is it worth holding for a shorter term or is it always best to think long term, it's just have a bunch of cash to move int a tax allowance in about 6 months, the money is in a stupid saving account losing money while i wait 6 months and I thought id try Arkk to see if it would grown, if i like i may keep for longer term.

    • @40finance
      @40finance  4 года назад +1

      First let me say that any money you need in less than 2 years is better held as cash in order to avoid any short term market dips. I know savings rates are paltry, but if you are buying something with the money in 6 months then this is the safest play. You would also pay tax on capital gains taxes for any investment gains you earned in this time. So if you made $5k in appreciation, this $5k would be taxed as regular income if you sold within a year of your investment.
      In regards to ETF behavior...they do fluctuate slightly each day like stocks. However the ups and downs are much more consistent since no single stock movement has a dominant influence on them. The best strategy is to hold long but you can sell at any point.

      @@40finance wow thank you for such a full and beautifully concise reply. I appreciate it. I’m in the uk and had a lot of cash sat in poop poo useless bank accounts for way way too long , my tax free ISA wrapper is filled to the max each year and I can’t put any more in until April , until then I figured pop some money into either ARK or ishares clean energy ETF. Yeah I’m aware I trigger a tax on any profits I take, I’m wasn’t sure that this was applied as a lower amount only if I hold for longer than 12 months ( I’m in the UK so it maybe different I need to double check)
      As for the bank acc in one for example I held 80k and for a year I earned £1200 interest :( I started investing and bought shares with it all in August and have earned £30,000 profits so far in only 4 months!! It’s upsetting that I’ve wasted all that time and feel like the bank has raped me. If I put it into an ETF I can move 20k across , pay the tax and still be much better off .

      YOU SHOULD. YOU WILL NEVER ACHIEVE THE PERFORMANCE OF AN ARK ETF ON YOUR OWN..... ARK STAFF OF 32 HAVE ACHIEVED ANNUAL RESULTS IN 60 TO 70 % PLUS PER YEAR FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS.... NO WAY YOU ARE INVESTING THAT WELL..... I STOPPED BUYING STOCKS AND OWN ALL THE ARK FUNDS....i just hold the stocks I had but as of 3 years ago stopped buying stocks... FYI..... if you send ARK an email on their web site.... They will send you a monthly list of all their trades for all 5 etfs.... so you know exactly what is going on with your money.... ARK etfs are safer that holding QQQ shares ..... perform better than MSFT over the years.... only AMZN does better

    • @40finance
      @40finance  4 года назад

      Yes, there are fees in the backend. They do not affect your stock price though...whatever you buy/sell for is what you get. The "win" is that you don't have the risk of full exposure to a stock if something goes bad. You also get to invest in multiple stocks through buying only one ticker.

    • @40finance
      @40finance  4 года назад

      Mona AI, it is now possible to buy some of the ARK Invest funds in Canadian dollars. ARK Invest have a marketing agreement with Emerge Canada Inc. ( emergecm.ca/emergearketfs/ ) that has allows Emerge to re-list the ETFs on Canada's NEO Stock Exchange where they trade in Canadian dollars. As a result, ARKK now also trades on the Canadian exchange as EARK. The Emerge Canada Inc. versions do have a slightly higher management fee and trade at far smaller volumes. I note the NEO Stock Exchange is included in the CRA's list of eligible exchanges so the Canadian versions can still be held in Canadian retirement accounts like the TFSA, RRSP, etc.. The differences in performance between the US & Canadian versions is primarily a function of differences in the currencies. It is possible for the Canadian version to have a down day when the US version went up, if at the same time the Canadian dollar was stronger than the USD. The opposite of course can happen too! Seeing the same thing listed in both dollars really highlights the currency-related impact on all our holdings. That impact usually isn't as apparent when we see a holding listed in just one currency.
      I note that ARK Invest has a similar marketing arrangement with Nikko Asset Management that allows that company to offer the funds as mutual funds in Japan. That same company is also marketing a version of ARKK for the Europe, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand markets.
      As a fellow Canadian, my own investment in ARKK was done in my Questrade TFSA buying the ETF in US dollars. My position in it is up 138.7% which is satisfying. It is more volatile than most of the rest of my etf's but I bought it as a long term hold and I'm happy to see where that takes me. I also have holdings in ARKG and ARKW that are also up over 100%. 🙂
