This is why video essays are so popular now. Lowest cost content you can make without having to get out in the world and capture so many great shots, like travel vloggers do. I believe if the video is over 10 minutes, and closer to 20, the amount goes up significantly enough to make it a viable endeavor. For some reason, ever since I first came across one of your videos, whenever I'm scrolling through shorts I always stop to watch your videos. I find the way you format your videos really easy and engaging to watch, and your narration is not over top, more complicated than it needs to be and a voice that is comfortable to listen to. Thanks for your content!

It's more to do with the fact they don't give ADs for shorts because it's incredibly difficult to do. You simply can't do 30 second or unskippable ADs on 30 sec long videos and nobody wants to watch a 5 second skippable AD before watching a short clip - no ADs means no revenue for yourube or the creator but a much better experience for the viewer. I guess they could put ADs in but it'll turn into Snapchat shorts and nobody wants to deal with that, I suggest you have a look at Snapchat and last longer than 5 min if you think ADs in short videos are a good idea. Tiktok also has this problem, creators make nothing from TikTok as there's no good way to provide ADs like in long form content. It's unfortunate for creators but there's more to it than YT not wanting to pay, they're a business they need to generate revenue for it to make sense paying people.

I had nearly 100k subs (not shorts creator), and laughable ad revenue is the reason why I quit and it's just getting worse every year with many more ads being played. A perfect inverse ratio.

The thing is since these are yt shorts you're obviously going to be making less than if you were to make normal 10 - 15 minute videos I feel like people would enjoy longer videos since these are super interesting

That means more time to make those videos. And that also doesn’t mean the views will translate. They’d most likely get way less views than their shorts which means not as much revenue as one would expect.

i think big part of the fact that the revenue is that low is cause RUclips gives lower or higher revenue depending in what county you live in no matter what views you make which is something that is a bit sad but at least it's something that you guys enjoy doing with your time

Omg that's much lower than anticipated. It does seem like YT is capitalizing and focusing on shorts more and more now, as they are more popular, so I do think it'd be worth at least a scaled back production to keep the channel going and not loosing your following entirely while those changes take impact, but that's so little money for how impactful your videos are even if you took a complete break for a while I think you could easily come back later if you wanted. Best wishes for the new year, and hope getting back to work is fun and fulfilling for you both!
