Great video always!! I transferred all of my Cobalt MR points to Marriott before they announced the changes. A bit unfortunate, but Aeroplan is also slowly being devalued, so transferring to Aeroplan is not always the best choice. The only things that won't be affected are cash back and fixed travel points (HSBC, MBNA, Scotiabank, etc).
How many points you have will depend entirely on how much you spend on each hotel. Marriott Bonvoy point earning is based on a multiple of the hotel price. Check out our guide here: princeoftravel.com/points-programs/marriott-bonvoy/
Here's the article: princeoftravel.com/blog/amex-gold-rewards-card-goodbye-for-now/ It may be coming back soon though - so we'll definitely have a video then. ⭐️
How long does it take for the points to transfer after purchase. So if i buy dinner, do i need to wait 30 days for the interest to accumulate in order for the points to carry over to my MR Reward?
I am trying to take advantage of the August 31 deadline of free cancellation. However I found it is impossible to book four biz class tickets back to China. I normally find 1 or at most 2 spot, but it is important for the whole family to travel together. Any tips? Thanks
Question for you Prince, wife and I both have ~57k bonvoy pts from getting the cards many years ago, never used it. Would it be more useful to convert to AP or just use as is? value wise I dont like the 1:3 ratio. Context is that we're not huge hotel enthusiasts, a 3-4 star hotel is more than enough, we've traveled the world staying at fairly budget hotels but occasionally went nicer when it was a city where luxury came cheap. In the last 5-6 years it's been more airbnb as well.
weird, I see your comment preview in youtube alerts but when I click on it, it shows 0 comments here, Thank you for the answer I think I got the gist of it.
So what you are telling us is The AMEX Marriott card is not worth getting. LOL Also the way to push to 1M points is not as easy to do as your described. First you and your partner individually needs to fulfill the spending requirement, unless you have a big family and your grocery and restaurant bills is constantly at high balance. Plus you need to persuade (refer) friends and family to get this card in order to get the referral bonus. It is not an easy task!
I’d push back on this quite a bit - yes, to get the current sign up bonuses you’d need to both get the card right now, but you could also just take turns getting the card so that you don’t have such a high spend requirement in just 3 months. Also, with 1 million MB points, you can literally do a RTW trip in business class with ANA, and spend 5 nights in an overwater bungalow at the St, Regis Maldives, the Ritz Maldives, or any other high end hotel that would normally cost you over $15k USD. I find the power of MB points are within the large number of transfer partner it has. In Canada, MB points are the only currency that transfer to amazing airlines with the friendliest award flights. I do agree with you with the referral piece though; people think you’re trying to get them to sign up to a pyramid scheme when in actuality, you’re trying to show them this fantastic new world of opportunity. I’ve decided only to tell people who ask me about points, instead of evangelizing to them. If you don’t believe me, just go look at the Marriott transfer partners… and then look up the creative ways to stretch those points…United excursionist perk, aeroplan stopover, ANA RTW, etc…
everything takes work. You can do that or spend loads of money to get the same equivalent amount of points. I rather get welcome bonus then rinse and repeat..
Can you get the bonus offers for both the AMEX core aeroplan card and the TD core aeroplan card at the same time? I spoke a TD agent today and they said if you own an aeroplan card from any other vendor, you don’t qualify for any welcome/bonus offer. How would the vendor/bank know which credit cards you already have? Through your credit check on application ???
Yes and no, you cannot use your spouses number for your card, but you can back door into it if you use Amex MR points, you can put your spouses number in the transfer box…… as for moving Marriott points the best is if you can manage to do one booking with ea h, but if that’s not an option or you are after status with one, the. You can transfer 100k bonvoy points each year to another member by calling in with both your account numbers
One thing to keep in mind is that every time you apply for a credit card, a credit inquiry is noted on your credit report. Each inquiry lowers your credit score between 15 to 25 points. It takes about 12 to 18 months for the effect to reverse.
Stayed at the Ritz Carlton San Francisco Club Level 1 bedroom suite for 3 nights for 300k points . Marriott has really devalued the points.
What was the going rate before?
😮😮😅
100% agree with this comment
Another great thing about redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points is that the 5th night is free. You can’t get that perk when booking stays with cash
Important to note that because points effectively sets foreign exchange rates to par, redemption value for Canadians is that much better.

Alaska Miles!
Great stuff! Would be nice if you did one on Hilton points as well which are becoming increasingly less valuable, more so than Bonvoy points.
Just looking at the Vespara in Pismo 480,000 points for 3 days in August for beach balcony room...ugh
Sounds like rampant inflation. Soon you won’t even be able to buy a loaf of bread with 1million points

I appreciate your honesty tho. 👍
haha I got 3m marriot points, have not used them for a while during covid
Would love to see a similar video on racking up airline miles via credit card and how to optimally burn them

Ut like uh, not ah. Small distinction but it's important for gaining trust with people who know.
I’ve never understood the Marri-ATT prononunciation
Been a member of marriot bonvoy for a while……but haven’t stayed in hotel cuz of pandemic
Does the free night at renewal come with all the cards? Even the one without an annual fee?
How many points will you have if you reach titanium elite status? And when you use those points for example for free nights, your points get deducted?

Aren't Marriot card subs only allowed every 24 months?
loved the joke at the end
Lol so my wife and I just need to spend $20,000 on dining in 6 months to get the spend points
Won't be surprised another devaluation from Bonvoy. Please also cover BA avios partner redemption devaluation. Thanks.
Ooh yes, I have my eye on that one. You'll see it on princeoftravel.com if not here.
Agreed, and 2nd on this because BA is garbage for redemptions so partner usage would be great
