So much JOY and wonder and tears wells up as I listen to this. There is as of recent a rising in my heart, greater love for my brothers and sisters who have the treasures of God in them. I love this man and I haven't even met him yet, but I know the One who he speaks of and HE binds us together. This made me cry tears of Joy as God through this stirred things within me in remembrance of who He is and how He has met me and revealed Himself in various ways to confirm His word! My heart is full! And it came in such a surprising way. I clicked on this casually not with any real intention to listen as I was just scrolling through videos listening to various versions of Is He Worthy and as this played I was gripped and surprised to hear as it were God speaking to me through this man in reminding me of all He has done and Who He is. This was providential!
Isn't it very special, the idea that every one of us, each and all, have a peculiar perspective on life, that is as I see God's wonders, even if the closest person I know was to be with me, to contemplate this magnificent beauty of God's creative work, we wouldn't see it the same way. It would not resonate deep down in our souls the same way, we wouldn't perceive God the same way through this frame. I thought about that today, contemplating the perfect luminosity shed by the sun on the moutain ridge at the northern end of the runway, with green blossoming through the snow and thinking about someone I deeply love, and I just realized that however close we could be, even if we would have been together, we would not have had the same perception of the beauty that lied into this scene. And here it is tonight, God speak to me through this message and through the sermon of Macdonald quoted in it, exactly in line with this tought... Well, the Spirit finds us we we're at!
As a songwriter, writer, & former singer (~30 years): I believe every community has someone who has this ability, gift, or talent. Sadly my experience has been different (and it reflects many I have spoken too over the years, in various places. I have lived an itinerant (due to vocation) life. Reception to my writing, wanting to add, has been either acceptance & aid in helping refine this gift. Other places are stone cold against new material, opting for Top 40 K-Love, Hillsong, et al. Find that person, come alongside them. Encourage them (That was good. That was bad, rework it). Until we do this, we’ll unknowingly keep lifting up Nashville singers as idols, stars, or special Christians. Just a thought. Just a short insight.
Andrew, do u know Darrow Miller? He has a great new book “A Call for Balladeers” challenging us to contribute to culture through offering beauty, goodness and truth in our songs & stories. 38:09
Love Andrew's songs, his voice, his instruments, & here his personal sharing. But I don't think theology happens to be his gift! He just listened to, I'd guess, Sinclair Ferguson (2:34), Andrew didn't quite catch his name, calling him Ferguson, LoL! I'm sure he must have been preparing for his own presentation which here follows Dr. Ferguson's. Anyway, nice to see I"m not the only one who's made embarrassing moments for themself! :-)
Fine example of a emergent church speaker! His life is not the center of the gospel if R.C was alive he will be angry at this guy and who ever brought him there. Wake up Ligonier!!!
You obviously do not know this man or his heart. If the gospel to you is making enemies to keep your faith secure, then you're at the center of the gospel.
1. RC Sproul was alive at the time of this talk. 2. Andrew Peterson is not even remotely involved with the Emergent Church. 3. That’s because the Emergent Church conversation is dead, and died years ago when the split between Emergent (Who all went theologically and socially liberal) and Emerging Church (Now Missional Church) happened. 4. Even if Peterson isn’t an intellectual like most of the Ligonier Fellows, this is for Reformation Bible College, not Ligonier. It is quite common for a different variety of folks to speak at college convocations and gatherings.
This allowed me to understand 64 years of spiritual turmoil and ministry. Thank you
