Who else likes to waste time tinkering with their gear? 😂🛠️
“I like to tinker.” The most relatable thing I’ve heard in awhile 😂
@@brian.zukowski A fellow nerd. 🤌🏻
@davidmorefield Tinkering marks the beginning of creation. Love tinkering with my rig.
Just got the Sony 28-135 lens and a UWP kit for my A7S3 and I spent a solid couple of hours testing everything and reorganizing my rig to accommodate and maintain efficiency.
All the best on your journey to working smarter and not harder. Keep up the good work bro.
@@pixlstudiosbahamas how have you liked it? Those are awesome pieces of gear!
Tinkering with parts and configurations is the best part of buying gear.
Dude, the little smirk at 27:45 leading up to "...we're gunna see how beneficial it is to have one more inch..." took me out 😂
I like to have fun with these videos
4:30 One thing of note with portable drives is M.2 SSDs directly in USB 3.2/TB3 caddys with some conformal coating or silicon they are just as rugged as your built-into a shell stuff, but you have the ability to re-use in any system and or adapt NVMe ones to Cf-express slots in a pinch like SATA to Cfast adapters, always better to stick to standard SATA/NVMe drives rather then soldered interface board USB based products unless its for sole compatibility reasons as your screwed if a port gets damaged and there is no spare or fix ability.
And size wise the longer M.2s are cheaper but the Corsair MP600 for example is about the same PCB size as whats in a T5.
Same logic goes for 18-22TB drives thanks to data hoarders great deals on used markets, but I moved to LTO5 for footage retention per project.
Nice pieces here. Give some ideas and this uncut vid was nice to watch
I love gear hauls. Feels like Christmas. I appreciate the shout out 🙏. I’m curious, since I’m seeing you internal storage set up, what codec do you use to shoot on the FX6? Oh, and by the way, you were absolutely right about how I titled that video that wasn’t performing well. I changed it and the views started to go up. I appreciate that!
Haha eventually I realized the thumbnail title is equally as important as the content in the video.
I shoot whatever the clients asks for. Some of my highest paying clients use 1080p, 8 bit, baked in color.
Really only my docu clients ask for the highest quality.
Personally I always keep the reflector dish with me, there is a huge difference in brightness when its off with a wide spread vs focused into an area
Especially when competing with the sun, every little bit helps
I dont like how the 60x has a very noticeable hotspot with the dish but they include diffusion in the kit (looks like a shower cap)
@@Supercon57 mine didn’t come with that shower cap! 😂
T7's are the one dude!
That Smallrig battery looks massive, but nice to not have to think about changing your battery all day
It’s big but it’s the weight that is impressive. Feels even heavier than it looks.
Totally relatable with the gear tinkering 🤣. I also just scooped up that small rig adapter for the FX6 handle. Going to test out today
I really like it! If you’re throwing it onto a rod like me, make sure to crank that sucker down.
Great build,
check out the nItze half ball handle rosette - this way you can rest your left hand and still focus pull, you’ll need a dual rod block but it’ll be a lot more stable!
I think that could work!
Do you have a link for this please?
Thanks
Do you have a link for this please?
I did look online for "nItze half ball handle rosette", but nothing showed up.
Thanks
@@Longdancer "Nitze Ball Side Handle with ARRI Rosette for Camera Cage and Monitor Cage, ARRI Side Handle with Different Colored Rubber Rings - PA33A"
There is also KinoGrip's KinoBall, very nice build quality but $$$ (custom wood hand made)
6:50 yeah, for me now having hit 48 years my eyes are starting to go, so I'd appreciate that extra distance too as my close vision is horrendous now, and I hate wearing glasses for it as I start to feel "motion sick" when wearing glasses and trying to focus my eyes on a distant object and then back at the screen. Getting old SUCKS!!
I don’t want to grow up haha
Just FYI the Rode wireless pro support the usb to lightning connection. "A comprehensive cable set is included, allowing you to record to devices with 3.5mm, USB-C, and Lightning connectors." From BH description and comes with the cable included in the box.
That’s why I returned them. The DJI RX plugs directly in and doesn’t need a cable to adapt it. When I was using the rodes I had to find a way to hold the RX. Just prefer the compactness of the DJI
@@davidmorefield Got it. I just look at the DJI Mic 2 and see what you mean. I did overlook what you said and in my mind I was picturing TRS connection not usb to phone.
@@josephjjc im glad both options exist though. I like the shape of the rodes more.
Hope the grip relocation works for you brother! Moving the grip out there was the best thing I did for my rig. I'm even considering buying a FS7 grip for the FX6 just to keep on there so I don't have to worry about the extension cable.
I heard the the fs7 grip doesn’t fully communicate with fx6?
@@davidmorefield I haven’t tested it yet. My buddy has one I’m going to test and see. I’ll let you know
Another good video man! I might look into getting those cable holders since my cable situation is pretty messy on my shoulder rig right now
I get so ocd about cables. I like having it neat.
Love your set up on the FX6
Thanks! It’s a constant work in progress but I really am stoked with how it operates rn. Very functional.
Dig the video! Love a good tinkering. Have you seen/considered the Godox CB-01 rolling light case? You could pack heads and stands and cords in one rolling case.
I own it! But I don’t like it bc it’s extremely heavy and doesn’t lift easily into my car. If you go back to the beginning vlogs, you can see me use it. Right now it’s in my closet holding gear that I seldomly use.
I’m surprised you don’t use the reflector dish, especially when bouncing a light off something. It reduces spill and increases output. It might be worth finding a way to include one of them, because they both use the same mount.
I ended up stuffing the reflector in the 200x side. Like you said, it’s nice to have.
36:37 You can connect the dji mic 2 directly to your phone with Bluetooth. You don't have to connect the transmitter all the time. Thats the biggest difference between dji mic2 and your rode mics.
Really?! I need to look into this. That would be great bc I can use the usbc to keep my phone charged.
@@davidmorefield yes! That is what I saw in other reviews. This is the reason I want to buy the DJI mic 2
And Ive got the Zacuto shoulder rig and arm extension. So good.
Definitely know a lot of ops who use the same setup.
Looking good. I wonder if a loupe on the lcd display maybe a good idea, another contact point for on the shoulder. Like the zoom handle position, making the camera feel more like a ENG news camera
I’ve considered the Sidefinder with turns the 503 into an evf. Similar style to burano’s evf layout. But the majority of my work just needs a viewable monitor. It’s tough. I could use both setups.
Just be careful leaving SSDs unpowered for a long time (1-2 years) because they could lose their data. There is a phenomenon known as 'bit rot' in which the voltage slowly leaks out of the SSD memory cells. Given enough time, the difference between a 0 and a 1 becomes indistinguishable and the data stored on the drive is moot. Just a heads up - I'm sure you won't leave them unpowered for that long but it's something to be aware of.
Oh wow. Thanks for sharing. Didn’t know that
Loved this style of video
Always trying different stuff. I like this new direction with this video and the walk and talks bc I can communicate more effectively
light fit well in the box, good measuring👌. Your camera with all the stuff probably isn't that heavy overall, maybe 6-8kg (less than 17lbs). I am weak as $h*t and do 9-10kg rigs. I don't say this to sound like I am a big tough guy. Quite the opposite. I say it to point out that if you are feeling heavy-ness/fatigue and discomfort from the shoulder rig at that weight something is wrong with the rig.
A few good places to start investigating to fix the issue is:
Does it feel like weight is being put on your arms/hands/wrists? If so, your rig is too front heavy (very common issue)
If the weight is very much on your right wrist and pulling sideways, like the camera wants to roll when static or during pans. Then this is likely caused by the weight of the monitor being offset from the centerline of the camera. Not much that can be done about that, just something to be aware of as it can fk your wrist.
Its why I use an EVF for a long days shoulder work and put my wireless receiver on the direct opposite side of the body to balance the lateral load.
Otherwise sometimes I rest my head against the camera body to stop the roll if I am using someone else's camera.
Does it feel like its digging into your shoulder? Shoulder pad may be too hard (lots of cheap ones are). Easy fix is to cut out some yoga mat or use some thin black adhesive foam to add a softer layer of padding. Its janky, but works a treat to make a day more comfortable. Personally that Smallrig one is terrible, I wouldnt try adapt it. Because it has a curve to the foam it has a tendency to make the camera roll on your shoulder far more which can put a lot of strain on your wrists over a day, mine back in the day also fully compressed over a day so it offered no padding at all. I would try make something flatter out of yoga matte type density of foam and fit it in with the magnets or velcro etc. It will then be luxury 👌if it looks too jank, get some cheap black fabric and make a little cover for it to neaten it.
Save your wrists plz.
Yes it’s the digging into the shoulder! I really like the native magnet system so I will try the yoga mat approach. Would you fix it to the pad via glue?
@@davidmorefield yeah depends on how keen you are to sacrifice that existing shoulder pad. I replaced my whole shoulder pad on my smallrig one back in the day with 3 thin layers of yoga mat. I hot glued Velcro to the foam to make it be able to quick detach when needed.
Otherwise just try some VHB (very high bond) outdoor double sided tape. It will stick really well, but can be removed if you change your mind and won't leave a residue when removed.
I use a small rig battery. Love the design and the usb c’s. Very handy to have all the extra ports for charging other devices. - This video style / length reminds me of something like a Sam Sulek video. Long raw / uncut. I wonder how this vlog will do.
Im curious how it will perform too. I assume it will do low numbers but the nerdy techs will really enjoy it. It’s definitely for a certain type of person. It could really help with my Average View Duration stat.
@@davidmorefield Coming back to check views! Seems to be performing better!
this man just won at tetris!
happy to see those changes, something to save for later when i have more gear to manage :P
you can also use second small milkcrate like your 60s to fit even more on top. for example for reflector dish just in case
@@remery4 good idea. Thank you!
For your shoulder pad - are the magnets removable from the vct? You could use velcro to attach your shoulder pad.
I didn’t think of that. Smart idea!
Hi David
Can you still pivot the hand-grip around once it it attached to the new SmallRig handle?
Thanks
Yes, you retain the same amount of rotation as when it’s on the fx6.
Great video! The T7 Shields are much better because the regular T7 will thermal throttel as hell.
I didn’t know this! Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
@@davidmorefield Or just build your own media with an 4TB Samsung 980Pro and and Inateck Nvme enclosure. I´ve got 2800mb/s perfect for editing, transcoding and backuping on MacOS :)
@@justusriechers2900 you lost me at that point. I’ll just give Amazon my money 😂
Why dont you have an eyeloop so your screen can be a viewfinder when on your shoulder? I still cant stand monitors, always prefered my viewfinders. Just natural to me I guess lol. Im old.
I actually like having the spatial awareness of not being locked into an evf. But an evf would definitely be more stable.
“I’m just a series of minor improvements” 33:42
That’s deep
That’s some fortune cookie wisdom right there. 🥠
I rock (2) 300Cs in a Pelican and its awesome
Definitely a solid solution. Since my recent work is a lot of car travel, I don’t need as much bulk or protection in the cases. But I love when I bring a pelican, I know everything will arrive safely.
8:20 totally agree on that too :-)
I agree. You have to be careful when pulling your card out. I’ve made the mistake of going too fast getting my nail in there to pry it out and end up splitting the SD card.
No sabía eso. Gracias.
@@videopromike yikes
Enjoyed the vid... now I have to go buy something...GAS haha

I said "that's what she said" like 30 times during this video 😂😂😂 BTW, don't forget the dji mic 2 has 32bit float internal recording, but I think it's not turned on by default in the RX
1” makes a big difference
I see an EZ-Rig in your future.
I hope not haha. It’d be great if I could keep reducing the weight of ny rig. But it’s tough when I keep adding things on.
Cheap Audio Mics/Systems Brands = Comica & 7Rymms & Polsen & Ulanzi
I think the DJI is as cheap as I want to guy.
I really like your content but the bass background noise in the beginning is terrible. Definitely should try to fix the audio next time
That would be thanks to my AC unit. I think I’ll use the new DJI mics for these long talking to the phone recordings from now on. Thanks!
I would have watched another hour.. :-)
Haha that’s awesome you made it all the way through. I have no clue if this video will perform well. Glad to hear some people like it.
I just gave you 42 minutes of watch time. I feel like we are obligated to be friends now.
I wondered if anyone would actually go till the end. You a real one 🫡
